Juliet Blackwell is an Author who never disappoints me. Ms. Blackwell knows that a series needs to move forward with it's main characters development and plot lines, thus keeping my interest going.
Lily Ivory, is a Witch. She is a charming witch and has had a rough life up to now. Lily's upbringing didn't allow her to experience events other girls did, such as proms, or dressing up for dates. Lily has spent most of her time trying to fly below radar and not be hunted as a 'witch.' So, when this b...more

Another set of clean, yet romantic, mysteries starring a strong female protagonist, with information and supernatural thrown in. The "detective" of the series is a witch, of all things, who owns a vintage clothing store in San Francisco (on Haight and Ashbury street corner of hippie fame). The mysteries are intriguing: you will learn all about those who deal in the supernatural, from witches, Wiccan followers, voodoo masters, gypsy practitioners, and even Satan worshipers, but in the context of...more
Lily Ivory not only owns a vintage clothing store in San Francisco she is a practicing witch specializing in brews and potions. While attending an Art Deco Ball a chance encounter with a young woman who later falls into a coma sets Lily out to investigate the mysterious illness. The investigation brings Lily in contact with a secretive coven, a mysterious herbalist, a vengeful anti-witchcraft group, a rival vintage clothing store owner, and several assorted characters (both pleasant and unsavory...more
Lily gets to attend an Art Deco fancy ball, but the evening barely gets underway when a women falls ill in the ladies room. Lily is convinced it is a hex on the corsage as Miriam slips into a coma right there in the bathroom. Lily just has to help, who else is going to know a "Sleeping Beauty" curse and how to deal with it? Additionally, Inspector Carlos Romaro has asked Lily to help him investigate Tarra Dark Moon's death since her coven members aren't opening up to him. Lily realizes that Miri...more
I liked this novel a lot. In any good series, the returning characters develop with each new addition and at least to some degree, this is happening. As a reader, I can't help but like the main character, lily. She's never had friends before coming to San Francisco due to unfortunate instances in her formative years. Now in her early thirties, she has made herself a home and established a successful and growing business. She also has a growing number of friends. Unfortunately, she keeps getting...more
This is the fourth book in the Witchcraft Mystery Series by Juliet Blackwell. This book begins only a few days after the end of the Hemlines and Hexes. Lily Ivory is heading to the Art Deco Preservation Ball with Aidan Rhodes. On her way into the ball room, Ivory sees a vision in the mirrors, of a woman sleeping behind roses and briers very Sleeping Beauty-ish. And then, while in the restroom, a woman is found passed out on the lounge chaise. It turns out this woman has been the victim of a curs...more
This is the fourth book in the witchcraft mystery series. I really enjoy this author. She has skillfully managed to blend witchcraft, vintage clothing, San Francisco in a nice mix with a clever mystery.

In Blackwell’s paranormal mystery novel, Lily Ivory takes a night off from her vintage clothing store to attend a local Art Deco ball. Soon after arriving, Lily realizes that a young woman at the event has fallen under a mysterious illness that looks to be connected to a cursed corsage.

A fun cozy mystery; one of those seemingly trying to cross genres (or maybe they're creating a new sub-genre). Alot of cozy mysteries have been branching out to a paranormal bent, like this one who's main character is a natural-born witch who sells vintage clothing. Interesting characters and an engaging read.

After a false start, the second novel blew me away and I'm a fan! Except the irritating gargoyle ‘Oscar’ whom I regard as the ‘Jar-jar Binks’ of this San Francisco series; I love the cast and premise of these novels. I'm excited for each to be published, lap them up, and am in full admiration of Juliet Blackwell's originality. Perhaps with mysteries in particular, familiar themes go into many stories. Similar ideas can’t help but crop up in the circle of time. However I genuinely find that Julie...more
This mystery is the best in the series yet. I used to consider the Art Lover's Mystery Series (that Juliet Blackwell wrote with her sister under the pen name Hailey Lind) my favorite series by Blackwell. But with In a Witch's Wardrobe, this is my new favorite Blackwell series. Lily Ivory and friends--not to mention Oscar, Lily's half-gargoyle familiar--come alive in this book, and there's also a great mystery involving a Sleeping Beauty curse. Great characters, lots of laugh-out-loud fun, a touc...more

Where to start?
Too many characters. Too many story lines. Too many men in Lily's life (reminiscent of "Runaway Bride" - she doesn't know herself so cannot make a commitment in a relationship - but in this case I suspect sloppy writing rather than intended cross-title character development).
I rolled my eyes a lot. Never a good sign. I think I'm done with this series - the needy telegraphing of the next installment at the end was kind of the last straw. There's a remote chance that if I'm desperat...more

I couldn't have been more excited when I saw this new witchcraft mystery at the store. I absolutely love the characters in this series and this has been my favorite yet! It has such a good mix of intrigue, self discovery, romance, mystery, secrets and keeps you on your toes every step of the way. I've become very invested in all of the characters and absolutely cannot wait for the next in this series to come out.

I was actually pretty disappointed with the ending of this book. It felt rushed and forced, wherein previously established characters acted out of character with little support for why they were acting the way they did. The mystery was good, but parts of it weren't written as well as I would have liked either - I felt like Lily should have thought over some things instead of jumping to conclusions at certain parts of the book. The pacing was uneven, with the first half of the book involving lots...more
Loved the story. Lily gets herself mixed up and involved in another mystery/crime and saves the day. I love Lily and all of her fun mix of friends. Oscar is my fave, of course. Then it would be Sailor. I have salivated over that bad boy since she first met him (view spoiler) I was over the moon, so excited, grinning like a silly school girl with a crush! Then (view spoiler)...more
Lily Ivory is back with her witchy-ways and eccetric acquintances. In previous books, Lily seems to take time to track down interesting clothing for her vintage clothing store, and the mystery seemed to revolve around that; however this is the first book that I felt really didn't incorporate this aspect into the mystery.

I'm a fan of this series, and I think this one might be the best one so far. The plot line is good with a great story and enough suspects to keep things muddled without overwhelming the reader with names to keep up with. I like the tie-in with Adrian, although I'd really like to see more of his backstory revealed; this is the fourth book, and almost nothing has been given away about one of the major secondary characters. I love that the love interest from the first couple of books was relegated...more
I really enjoy the Witchcraft Mystery series by Juliet Blackwell. Lily Ivory is a sometimes less-than-confident witch with understandable trust issues. She gets involved in situations that often times lead to nothing but trouble. "In A Witch's Wardrobe" is no exception.

One of my favorite cozy series! Others have provides summaries, so I will just add that one of the reasons this series is so good is that the characters grow and change through the course of each story.
This is the fourth book in the series---though I think all events have taken place within the same year (maybe two) of the characters' lives---and we can see the effect Lily has had on others as well as their great effect on Lily.
I look forward to many, many more in the series.

Another installation in one of my favorite series. I'm really enjoying the character development through these novels. I like that Sailor had a bigger role in this, and I was kind of surprised by the direction that took.
I think the book could be mostly read out of order, but there is one relationship in the book (Aiden and Sailor) that isn't well described and reading the previous books first would help explain that situation and Lily's role in it.

Now I've finished them! I have to wait for more. How long, I wonder? This is the only down side of a really good mystery series. Not only am I left on a cliffhanger, but I'm now parted from lots of lovable characters that I enjoy knowing. We'll drift apart now, only to have to somehow get to know each other again when the next book finally appears.
I might just have to read them all again. :)
Thank you, Juliet.
From a dedicated fan. :)

Another fun read in this series! Lily Ivory, vintage store owner, and possessor of magical abilities, keeps finding herself smack-dab in the middle of another murder mystery! I love the interaction between Lily and Aiden Rhodes, sexy male which and between Lily and Sailor, dark, mysterious, hunky male. But where did Sailor go? And where is Aiden? I hope there will be more in this series!
I love this series by Juliet Blackwell...Lily's social ineptitude combined with her incredible heart and magic makes for a very endearing character. Gotta love her sidekick/familiar Oscar...he's a hoot! As for Lily's love interests-you'll have to read the books to discover for yourselves! ;)
All four books in this series (A Witchcraft Mystery)so far are fast paced and there really isn't any lag or ho-hum times...an excellent and fun read.

One of my favorite series that gets better with each book entry. It could be a light fluffy paranormal cozy, but it's not. Lily Ivory wants to be a good shopowner and witch and fit in, but events keep putting her out there. This time she is in the thick of a magical event that has trapped a young woman in a coma and a local coven might be to blame. Too many incidents keep leading that way and Lily isn't sure how to handle it. But handle it she does.

Cozy mystery that left the reader hanging. The mystery was sort of secondary to her personal relationships with the many men in her life. She finally picked one and it's left seriously hanging (Don't want to give too much away here, but it annoyed me). The mystery was solved very quickly, too quickly IMHO. I have liked the other book in the series much better.
I really like the new installment of this series. The mystery was both interesting and fanciful, drawing upon a fairy tale. Lily was her normal caring self, and I cheered when she had a romantic encounter that I really wasn't expecting, but totally loved. I can't wait for the next installment so that the semi-cliffhanger will be solved!
Another enjoyable story of Lily Ivory, witch. This time Lily meets a woman at the Art Deco Ball who has been cursed! Lily investigates to try and help her. Aidan is evasive as usual....
I love how Lily is becoming a big part of her community.
I hold out hope that Lily and Aidan are destined to be together, I hope that Aidan will be more forthcoming with his life.
Looking forward to the next book.

The family soon moved to what were, at the time, the sticks of Cupertino, an hour south of San Francisco.
