I'm so confused about this book. Initially, it starts off pretty strong. Chase and Rachel have a history together. It ends tragically with the death of her father, the circumstances of his death being a mystery. It's now four years later. Rachel has a new job, a new life. Then Chase comes back into town on his treasure hunting boat, chasing the same sunken treasure that her dad died trying to find.

Once the details were laid out and I thought I understood the plot, I started really getting in to...more

“Severed Threads” by Kaylin McFarland is set in San Palo, California. Chase Cohan is a treasure hunter. Four years earlier, his partner, Sam Lyons, died because of an equipment failure while diving. Chase fell in love with Sam’s daughter, Rachel Lyons, but left her without an explanation.
Now, Rachel is offering a grant to Dr. Lao Ying, and the local museum. Dr. Ying is very interested in the Wanli II, a Ming Dynasty Emperor’s lost dragon ship, rumored to be just off the coast. He’s hired Trident...more

I hate to admit it, but I have been putting off writing this review.

When I selected the book, several weeks ago, I had high hopes. The teasers are intriguing and I love nothing more than curling up with a good romantic suspense. Something I can just gobble up, like a great mental meal.

Sadly, this book (for me) just wasn't that feast.

Don't get me wrong, the plot is definitely suspenseful. Between Sam's death, Rachel and Chase's tempestuous relationship, Devon's kidnapping, cursed treasure, and m...more

Severed Threads is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller with big storylines and many subplots. If you enjoy contemporary adventures with a little romance thrown in for good measure, Severed Threads could be the next novel to add to your to-read list.

The story begins with the death of Sam Lyons, a veteran salvage diver (think treasure hunter) under questionable circumstances. A routine reconnaissance excursion results in his unforeseen death which leaves lingering questions of fault and blame. Wa...more

Slip beneath the waves into Kaylin McFarren’s perilous new romance, ‘Severed Threads.’

In the classic dive novel, one of the main characters is after shipwrecks – or more accurately, sunken treasure: a very specific treasure. And treasure is most definitely at the heart of this one, but for far more reasons than money – this hunt is both close to the heart and quite possibly deadly.

At the start, we’re assured that handsome Chase Cohen...more

What would you do if you blamed yourself for your father’s death? For Rachel Lyons, her father’s death is a wound so painful she pulls away from the life and the person she was prior to his death. Sam Lyons’ death is the sad line of demarcation in Rachael’s life.

Four years later, we find Rachel has given up diving and taken a safe job in a safe place. The Warren Nash Foundation is where Rachel is spending her days until she is yanked out of her self-imposed near isolation. Rachel is asked to he...more

The story opens during a diving salvage operation with experienced divers and treasure hunters Sam Lyons and Chase Cohen. Though they’re working on the Griffith wreckage, Sam believes the site also contains the wreckage of none other than the Wanli II—the Ming Dynasty Emperor’s lost dragon ship containing an ancient figure head, a fierce dragon in gold leaf and preserved in resin for all posterity—the gift Mai Le intended for her lover.

Unexpectedly, however, things turn bad for Sam while he’s u...more

A Fast-Moving, Plot-Twisting, Rollicking Gallop of a Romance

“Severed Threads” by new author Kaylin McFarren definitely lives up to its “Romantic Suspense” genre listing. At two hundred and eighty-three pages it’s a fairly quick read and I found it to be interesting and well-written. I would also hazard a guess and say that McFarren holds some level of scuba certification as her underwater scenes are portrayed both accurately and knowledgeably.

As I began reading my copy of “Severed Threads” I was happy to find that the first chapter was an adventuresome “...more

An adventure story with everything you could ask for. A story of buried treasure with a curse over it, gangsters who want their stolen money back, a salvage operator on the brink of bankruptcy and the beautiful heroine who wants to find the treasure to honor her dead father.

This book had me hooked from the first page, with the descriptive texts of each individual along with why they want to find the treasure for their own needs but how this is affected by outside factors and their reactions to t...more

"BRILLIANT, SUSPENSEFUL, ENTERTAINING!"

Rachel had no intentions of getting involved in anything, until she finds out that her brother was kidnapped. Who kidnapped her brother, and what risk must Rachel take to save him? W...more

If you haven’t already heard me say it before, I love, love suspense books that keep me guessing – and in the new book “Severed Threads” by author Kaylin McFarren, you will find just that!

The first chapter of the book gives you a very good back-story so you learn more about what shaped the meat of the book. I always appreciate when an author does this because it helps get me more interested from the beginning.

The book revolves around Rachel Lyons who lost her father 4 years previous in a diving...more

This is a really long book. I read really fast and breeze through a book if I like it, Severed Threads was no different! I was hooked because my older brother is an Archeologist, sometimes he even brings back goodies from his digs! This novel literally has you spell bounded from the very first chapter. I was instantly drawn into the book because I am an avid scuba diver. McFarren uses descriptive words so well this story became clear in my mind as I was reading. It included both suspense and rom...more

I never really connected with the characters in the book. I suspect because there were times in the book when I was totally confused. Scenes weren't set up as well as they could have been. Sometimes there was too much detail (I didn't really need to know about the cockeyed lamp in the hero's apartment), and sometimes not enough (The warehouse wasn't threatening enough).

Fight scenes are hard to write and I have to admit I had trouble following some of them in this book and a few made me snicker....more

Severed Threads is the first in a series involving treasure hunters Rachel Lyons and Chase Cohen. Rachel and Chase have a history. After Rachel's father died in a diving accident, Chase disappeared out of her life with no explanation. Now he is back asking for her help.

Overall, I did enjoy the story. Chase and Rachel have a great chemistry together. I did find myself rooting for them to get back together. The book has a lot of action and some mystery to it. I liked both as well as a few twists...more

First of all, Kaylin did a great job at keeping your attention and helping the story flow. She laid out the ground work from the beginning by giving a great amount of details into the backstory of where Kaylin's feelings and emotions where coming from. Secondly, everyone who has had to deal with grief and trying to make sense of what seems like chaos can relate to this character. Besides having to deal with the death of her father, she is dealing with a broken relationship as well as a sibling w...more

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway! :)

The whole time I was reading Severed Threads I was like ahhh 4 stars, no 5 stars, no 4 stars, no 5 stars! lol I HAD to give it 5 stars based soley on the fact that it was action packed, interesting, and unpredictable! I never knew what was going to happen next, which is awesome and hard to find sometimes.

There were only a couple (minor) things I didn't get and that was why would he not tell her about his kid, lol. I get why she didn't hear about his ki...more

After her father is killed in a fatal diving accident, Rachel Lyons can remember only one thing: the fight they had shortly before. Her guilt drives her away from the world as a whole, and into what she believes is a safe position, working in the grants department of a foundation office.

When Rachel is asked to assist her former lover in gathering long lost relics from a sunken Chinese ship, she has every intention of stopping him at every turn, at least until her brother is kidnapped by gangster...more

Chase Cohen and Sam Lyons were diving together, searching for the elusive buried treasure that Sam had been chasing for years. He was so sure he would find the Chinese merchant ship, the Wanli II, that he had devoted his life to the task. But that day, tragedy struck and Sam drowned. Chase blamed himself, believing he hadn’t kept Sam safe, and Rachel, Sam’s daughter, was understandably devastated. Even though Chase and Rachel were an item, Chase believed she would blame him, so he decided to dis...more

Adventure, legend, mystery, humanity, secrets, danger, and love is what you’ll get when you read SEVERED THREADS by Kaylin McFarren. Rachel, the main character, was a woman I could easily relate to regardless of some of our life differences. McFarren wrote the story so well that feeling what Rachel felt was fairly easy and emotional at times. SEVERED THREADS is a page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat and diving for more. If you enjoy a bit of everything, you just may like this...more
