*spoilerish!!*

Finished - and tired.
These two guys were exhausting.
Don`t get me wrong, this was not a bad story. I wasn`t tempted to skim pages or even stop reading but it took some effort to read through and even more effort to like the characters. I did like them...and didn`t. I couldn`t decide perhaps that`s what kept me reading.

Sean - openly gay and prickly with a homemade inferiority complex and Andrew - a deep in the closet papa`s boy with superior attitude - the perfect mix for an...more

5 Stars! ~ Sean ♥Andrew, So in Love~

" Also IRRITATING, and LOVABLE

The Book~

Oh Sweet Heaven they were so HAWT together!!..They indeed needed water to cool them down on so many levels...they were both Alpha Yum!. Gosh, I have a weakness for men that can hold their own..they were so perfectly matched. I Love that!

I love enemies to lover books~and these enemies to lovers captured my attention when the writer wrote " his lips curled" I knew then that I was in for a treat and this author delivered....more

The last chapter was idiotic.

I shouldn't have enjoyed this book a much a I did, Why? Two reasons...........Sean and Andrew! These two have to be the most frustrating, contrary, stubborn headed pair of PIA's, that I've ever come across in a book! I spent most of the time wanting to slap some sense into both of them. This is a proper 'enemies to lovers' story and has enough misunderstandings and angsty moments to rival any long running soap, but it works really well, even though it will probably have you banging your head aga...more

Eh, phooey. I didn't enjoy this one at all and I love enemies to lovers plots and two guys being forced to work together and confront their problems to survive. This sounded SO promising. But:

1. The last chapter was idiotic and reinforced all the annoying bits of the story. It adds nothing and should have been left off.

2. The men were childish and irritating. They acted more like naive high school virgins than confident mature professionals. Same kind of dramatics too.

3. I felt no sexual chemist...more

I discovered Jane Davitt as an author through Wild Raspberries and Wintergreen. The real apporach on her characters charmed me more than hot sex could do. Her character made mistakes, were morose, acted wrong and still struggled to do the right thing.

So I decided another of her books was necessary. "Rock and a Hard Place" is good. Both MCs are as I described, people with faults. Not supergoodlooking perfect alpha males who only battled for dominance but supergoodlooking ;) guys with issues, faul...more

: This novel follows Sean’s and Andrew’s “war and love”. Yes of course those two go together. Sean is a junior partner in Carney Enterprises. He loves his job and is very good at it. He is also a very proud gay, coming out to his family ever since he was 12 and not letting anyone stepping on him due to his sexuality at any point of his life. His life whirls around his job, that is very demanding leaving him not much time for personal relationships or even rest. While he thinks that everything is...more

This book is hot and full of one thing I love more than almost anything. BANTER!

Rock and a Hard Place was one of those hot books that could have gone on forever and I would have loved it. This had sweet scenes, fun scenes and over the top hot scenes. The characters, although lovable could get on my nerves at times. The bickering and hot sex made up for it and I still loved the book.

For a favourite MC I would have to pick Sean. He is the type of character I love. Out and proud, witty and has a te...more

Wow, this was just made of awesome. I liked the premise for the enemies-to-lovers: hardworking, ambitious rising star resents golden boy boss's son. The boys had clashing personalities, goals and expectations that gave their bickering a real foundation beyond the usual attraction-in-denial. This allowed for incidents of genuine conflict to continue after they'd become lovers.

The events following the rescue were as compelling for me as the island interlude, which was itself entertaining. I liked...more

There was so much I loved about this book, but it had a few niggles that drove me to distraction. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite storylines, and with the added dimension of a crash landing on a desert island, I was really looking forward to the show-down between Sean and Andrew when they were forced to work together to survive. The best part of the whole book, in my opinion, is the time spent on the island. I loved Sean and Andrew together when the rest of world wasn't involved...more

When I read the blurb for this story, I was kind of dismissive. A love story on a deserted island? How corny. I didn't think two people could believably fall in love while struggling to survive, boy was I wrong.

Andrew and Sean are business rivals that detest each other. When their rivalry gets a bit too public, their boss sends then on a vacation to bond. On their way to their island adventure, their plan crashes landing them on a deserted island. The two men must learn to put aside their diffe...more

ROCK AND A HARD PLACE is a classic story of enemies turning into lovers. From the bickering and general entertaining animosity to strong writing, a reader can pretty much find something to like when it comes to this book.

Sean and Andrew are business rivals, but two who really don't have a limit when it comes to the mutual dislike. Yes, they both have sharp tongues, are quite brilliant and not very tol...more

I really enjoyed this book. There are tropes here that haven't worked for me in other books but somehow totally work here. The plot is a little contrived, but it doesn't really matter, because it's a lot of fun: put two people who hate each other on a deserted island and wait for the fireworks. It plays out in the predictable way—and the sex scenes are really hot—but the first half of the book is really well done. The authors even took two characters that aren't that likable—Sean does have a chi...more

This was a nice change from the same old, same old stories of late. I enjoyed the different setting and issues the guys face here, but the back and forth bickering, hate then love, love then hate, especially by Sean, and the in/out of the closet issue by Andrew, did drive me a little nuts at times. One minute, I wanted to kill them, the next, I was feeling bad for them, and one was just as bad as the other. When they were alone, with no outsiders involved, they were great. The sex was hot, and I...more

I love characters full of flaws and weaknesses, because, supposedly, they make a story more realistic and deep. Alas, this is not the case with Sean and Andrew. Their flaws make the plot childish on an embarrassing level. I swear, I rolled my eyes so much that at the end of the book I needed eye drops.
So 2-stars-minu-minus only because I give 1 star to disturbing or insulting readings, and this one is just very irritating.

Even though the plot of m/m enemies to lovers has been done time and again, Jane Davitt's story,ROCK AND A HARD PLACE, was riveting and emotionally charged. The sexual heat generated by the two main characters was very entertaining to say the least. And by the end, I was moved by their desperate attempt to understand their places in each others life and the dawning of true love between them. I definately recommend this book for those who love a good m/m romance.

A decent story about what happens when unrequitted lust and longing show up as anger and competition until, of course, the two gentleman in question crash land in the ocean and end up on a deserted island together. Forced to work together and let go of all their pretenses, they end up discovering they have more in common than they thought.

Overall an average story. Somewhat cliche. Not a whole lot of depth in terms of the characters or their love story but entertaining and light read nonetheless...more

At first Sean was annoying and then Andrew was annoying. The plot felt a little bit pieced-together, and Andrew's motivation for staying in the closet didn't make much sense to me, no matter what reasons the author gave to use to justify it. I agree with the reviewer who said the ending felt like they were in love (sort of, maybe) but not friends; frankly I'm still not sure they could really stand one another for long periods of time.

I am convinced Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow can do no wrong. Love this one. Andrew and Sean were complete opposites and bitter enemies/rivals who unexpectedly fall in love and reading their journey (from deserted islands to hospitals; enemies to lovers) was extremely enjoyable.
Camille
Corny and cliched. Thick-on-the-ground sex and thin, up in the air storyline. A tedious tale of two teenage girls whose drama, despite trying its best to be relevant, is just dull. A tale related by amateur writing that renders this a tiresome read.

The book was well-written but the MCs were fighting too much for my taste. I love enemies to lovers stories but those two didn't stop till the last page and eventually it got to be a bit too much for me.

We can't help who we fall in love with and there's thin line between hate and love are perfect examples for Sean and Andrew situations in this book.

Two things: that scene from "Here to Eternity" is a lot more glamorous in the movie and I prefer a machete to open my coconuts.

Sweet, amusing and surprisingly sexy for two men who haven't had a proper shower in quite awhile. I like the rivalry between Sean and Andrew; it is funny how much hate/love are so closely aligned. I always laugh when people say hate is the opposite of love--no, it's apathy. Repressed feelings do have a way of peeking through during moments of crisis and this one implode...more

二人のいがみあう男が無人島に遭難、というなかなかインパクトのあるプロットを、輪郭の強いキャラでよくひっぱっていると思う。
後半ちょっとゆるんだかなーという感じもありますが、全体には大いに楽しめました。

2.5 stars. This is a fave writing team of mine but I really struggled with this book. I found Andrew incredibly hard to root for. For the life of me, I couldn't understand why Sean kept giving him more chances especially after the (view spoiler)[going with the old guy up to his room (hide spoiler)]. Andrew's reason after reason to find angst with his family almost had me throwing my nook off my balcony toward the end. Plus, the enemies to lovers theme didn't work for me in this one.
