I got hooked from the first chapter and couldn't put this book down. Ok. I had to stop a couple of times just to calm down. Seven-X gets in your head and keeps you wanting more, while freaking out. It's deep, mystical, unsettling, haunting, tragic, funny at times and incredibly well written. I feel like I am in Eddie's shoes, committing myself into this asylum and living through his experience. And all the while I ask myself, could these demons be haunting me too.

One of the best mind blowing books I have read in years. Mike Wech keeps you in the edge of your seat dying to know what is happening next and where would Eddie end up, and most of all what he would find out or if he would even leave this Institution. There's not a dull moment to be found in this book.
Seven-X is one of those books that stays with you long after you read it. There are so many layers to the story and such depth of thought that I found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading and kept wanting to go back and read more. I'm anxious to see if there is a sequel or additional volumes coming because the ending left me wanting to know so much more about Eddie, Annette and the baby Kevin.

I was given a free e-book copy from the author in return for a review, so reason I gave it 4 stars was because I'm a big Fan of Horror since I was 5 yrs old, so it takes a lot to scare me or creep me out if reading or watching Horror. The suspense kept me reading, but I was left wanting something more. It was written as a diary, and that may be why I couldn't seem to lose myself in the plot. But overall was a good read, I wouldn't say it scary, maybe to some other readers, yes it was creepy in s...more
We meet Eddie Hansen a reporter who is getting a story on Annette Dobson. A woman who murdered her kids or did she? Eddie travels to an asylum where she is being held to get the full story. What you read here is not what is expected.
Eddie Hansen tells us the story through. Journal entries, Audio logs and Video logs. Some in which are translated by his co-worker Melony.

This book was wild. Unlike anything I've ever read before. It actually is more like a movie in book form but it is well executed and really gets you scared. I wasn't really scared but it could be freaky if you read it on your own at night. The next books in the series look to be pretty exciting and should be fun as well.
I didn't win the giveaway of this book but got an email letting me know it would be free for my Kindle and so I picked it up.

Talk about one wild ride!!! Let me tell you, I love watching scary movies and reading scary books. To the point that if I have to watch a movie alone, I will. Also, not much scares me. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire read. I was constantly asking my self, “Is it this,,, is it that,,,, no really!!!” I really enjoyed reading this story. Some mentioned it reminded them of Shutter Island it was much better then that movie. The only resemblance is the setting.

Recommends it for:
Psychological Horror and Thriller addicts like me.
My Holiday reading just got intense with the addition of Seven-X on my Nook. This book had the hairs on my arms jumping and my spine tingling, anticipating what was going to happen next. I loved the journal format. It was unique and thrust me inside Eddie's mind as he ventured deeper into insanity or demonic possession, it's not clear which. I think that is left for the reader to figure out as Mike Wech leaves us with a brilliant cliffhanger, and some questions for the next books in the series....more

Seven-X is a horror novel done exactly right. The premise behind the story is journalist Eddie Hansen's trip to the Uphir Behavioral Health Center outside of Dell City, Texas. He believes that "SIDS Killer" Annette Dobson was not executed as the public was told...that she instead was admitted to Uphir to have an exorcism performed and to give birth to her child. I must say "this book is very intense." I stopped reading because it was too much for me. I had some bad dreams and needed to put it down. I may try it again, but not now. If you are the kind of person like me who is sensitive to spirits, then I suggest caution, liking reading during the day (as others have suggested) or with people nearby, NOT alone at night. If you can handle true horror, you will enjoy this book as the story is very entertaining and different. The writing is vivid and passion...more
I won this from the Goodreads First Reads Giveaway. Ebook Edition.
Totally enjoyed reading this book. As other reviewers have mentioned, it reminded me a lot of Shutter Island and The Exorcist. It was spooky, but good. It's not the best book to read when the wind is literally howling from a tropical storm, right before bedtime though =)
Could have used another pass through editing. There were many typos and errors, but the overall story was good enough to compensate.

I did not win this book on the free goodreads giveaway but I received it free from the author on my kindle. This was a really good book. I have never read a book quite like this. It was scary, dramatic and suspense filled. I could totally see this book turning into the next exorcist movie!! Eddie is a stubborn man looking into missing death row inmates and what he stumbles upon will creep you out and keep you on the edge of your seat. Definite must read. There were times when the description was...more
This book was written from an extremely interesting point of view. As Wech's debut novel, it is very unique. I can't wait to read more from him. I'm also interested to see if it is possible he will continue the story line, perhaps even from another patient's perspective. The way the book is written makes it smooth to read and it is hard to put down, though my life has been unfortunately busy as of late. I have some criticism for this book, but nothing extremely important as to warrant a bad revi...more
This book gave me chills! It was so well written that I was drawn in from the very first page. It seemed so real, I began to wonder if Eddie Hansen really existed. I sat in rigid horror waiting to see what would happen next. Mike Wech did an excellent job building the suspense and creating the terror.
The characters are compelling, the story is unique and thought provoking and the writing is vivid and imaginative. I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a good scare or if you just lik...more

I was thrilled to be given a chance to read this book. However, I found that it was lacking something...not quite sure what, but soemthing was definitely missing.
I'm first and foremost not a huge fan of horror. My mom is, but I'm always willing to give these types of books a chance, especially since it was more of the supernatural/paranormal genre than horror.
The characters from the Institute are completely shrouded in mystery leaving you to wonder who out of the 3 you can trust. However, the l...more

I wasn't chosen as a winner in the Goodreads Giveaway for this title, but the author was gracious enough to supply a copy for me to read anyway. Cool, huh?
The title, Seven-X, should probably be read as 'seven times' rather than 'seven ex' as it alludes to the premise of the story which is that a possessing demon, once exorcised, will return with seven of his closest fiends to really amp up the party.
The story is told via the main character's girl friend by way of notes and transcripts. The final...more

Overall: Despite my low rating, I don’t think that Seven-X was a bad book. I just didn’t understand what was going on and I was irritated and confused for the majority of the book. I felt like I was driving down a back road without GPS or a map or even headlights. The individual scenes were written well, but I had a lot of trouble piecing everything together. Although there is a direct reference in the book to Shutter Island, this book isn’t a copy-cat storyline but it does share the same “thing...more
When I read the account of the main caricature's meal in a diner in Dell City Texas, I knew I was going to like Seven-X. The author described the experience as going back to the fifties as in Back to the future. I too had the experience of eating at the diner in Dell City Texas, a small town with a population of less than 500. My experience was more like stepping into the Twilight Zone. I pulled up in a 1987 GMC Suburban with tinted window in the middle of a rain storm, walked into the diner and...more
A gift from Mike Wech on Goodreads.com. I am digging in on 9/22/12. And away we go!
I read this with only a break to sleep. I had read It by Stephen King when I was in high school...no book has scared me before or since until Seven-X by Mike Wech. This novel devoured me! I didn't want to put it down. At the same time, I felt my heart racing from fear and the unbelievable twist and turns. It was as if I was with Eddie while he made his journey through his investigation at the behavioral hospital....more

Scarred from A rough childhood and A divorce he never wanted even though he fell out of love with his ex-wife, Eddie Hansen's heart broke every-time he thought of his daughter loving her Stepfather. Melody Swain was his lover and partner who'd dictate his notes when he broke the story to his job at the LA Times that Six time murderer Annette Dobson was at the Uphir Behavioral Center in the boonies of Uphir, Texas! Annette was sentenced to die for the murder of her six infants and when he brought...more
let me say right up front that I can't wait for this story to continue. not sure if it is or not, but I am hoping it does. this story has some great twists and turns and can get a little confusing at times, but it always comes back around. you will be frustrated and anxious all at the same time. this one puts your imagination in overdrive and keeps you wanting more.
I really enjoyed it! I want more! I see this author becoming one of my favourites amongst, James Herbert, Tess Gerritsen, and Stephen King.
For a debut this was excellent. Edge of my seat, didn't want to put it down and even though I don't spook easily, this managed to get me looking over my shoulder. Loved it!
I would like to say that I don't understand how the very few who have reviewed this and given negatives about it. They claim to be athiest so couldn't get their heads around the Bible and...more

Intense is one good word to use. I would also use Vivid. The battle between the forces of good and evil are a long standing, tried and true story premise. I knew a little about SEVEN X before I picked it up, but I wasn't at all prepared for the trip I took in the reading. I knew for instance the story had something to do with an asylum. I did not expect to actually find myself there just because the main character, Eddie Hanson was there. I was surprisingly denied the privilege of sitting in det...more
While I wouldn't say this is a "horror" story, it was certainly a psychological thriller. I enjoyed the documentary style narration, I found the story engaging and interesting, and I liked the interweaving of religion, science, and government conspiracy theory.
Now, it sounds like Seven-X is the first in a series-to-be, so perhaps my feelings on this will change in the future. However, I felt like the ending didn't have the impact I wanted it to have. Based on the storyline, I wanted to feel the...more

Whatever happened to seven death row prisoners?
I believe that Annette Dobson, The SIDS Killer, is not dead, even though the state says they executed her, filed a death certificate and closed the case. Her husband does not believe it either. She had been convicted of killing six of her children before they could reach a year old. She was pregnant at the time of her incarceration and plead for an abortion, so she wouldn't take the baby to hell with her. She is only one of the seven I think they ha...more

This was truly a different book - different in a good way; and yet it reminded me so much of Shutter Island. However, it didn't have the twist ending I so much loved and hated at the same time. And it also was a lot darker than the latter. This book is so realistic and really draws you in - the unique way of narrating lets you feel with Eddie, the main character, while still not giving everything away and keeping the reader (and Eddie!) wondering what is going on. I can't wait for the other part...more
Seven X is the offspring of Devils Advocate meets Shutter Island meets the Exorcist. This books gets into your head and continues to whisper in your ear along the way. I was hooked from the very beginning and spent the entire read trying to understand the mind of Eddie Hansen, something he himself is struggling with as well. Eddie's moral compass is completely askew and with every twist and turn you hope that he might find his way. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor throughout the story and the movi...more
