On balance, I have to say I liked this book a lot. The first part was very easy to read, and it seemed to cover subjects the author is interested in personally. The chapters on various cultures were interesting. I learned a few things in this section of the book. The second half of the book was harder to follow because it contained a lot of technical data. This was the evidence used by the author to back up his theories. Speaking as a non-expert, the writer made a fairly convincing case. I just...more

Overall I enjoyed this book. The first half was extremely good as I enjoy reading about historical events and people. This part of the book was well thought out and presented.

The second part of the book dealt more with reviews of scientific studies and theories use to support his position of the possible effects of climatic change on society.
