All the Little Graces is an enchanting, engaging story of an American family on vacation on a Greek island. This is no ordinary family! This year they bring their young daughter Lily who embodies the endearing magical presence and essence that inhabit innocent children with eyes of wonder and a heart so pure. Life will never be the same in this little fishing village!
With her mother Eleni, they set out to inform and open the minds and hearts of the people in their attitude and treatment of th
The Beauty and Grace of "All The Little Graces"

On my first visit to Italy, everything about it tantalized my senses; the beautiful olive tree and vineyard studded hills, the narrow winding cobbled streets of cities and ancient hill towns, the paintings, sculptures, architecture, and oh the food. It was mid October, and my husband and I were staying at a lovely hotel overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and the island of Giannutri. It was that perfect off-season time: the weather still balmy, and few o

Spoiler alert:

Just like the author, who clearly has a passion for the Greek Island where this story takes place, my love of Greece goes back many years. This affiliation with the Island was what first drew me to discovering "All the Little Graces" and as I read it, I found myself following in the footsteps of Eleni, Harry and daughter Lily, through streets that appeared so familiar to me. This of course isn't a mere travelogue of a Greek Island but a story that centres on the author's great love

I first began reading All the Little Graces in digital format -- my first experience! -- but it wasn't until I was able to sit back, relaxed in my easy chair with the newly published paper-back edition, that I became immersed in this slice of life story of a very unique family. Harry, Eleni and their 12 year old daughter, Lilly, arrive for an extended summer holiday on an idyllic Greek island with the expectation of a leisurely respite, hoping for renewal and inspiration. Instead they come face ...more

This Amazing Author has through her sweet words planted the call of Greece in my Soul. Reading her words has made me want to go and meet not just the people but the 4 legged ones she write so eloquently of. You feel what they are feeling through the passion and the eloquence of her words. Giving voice to these animals we have used to our own benefit forever. Once you pick up her book you will not want to put it down until you have ingested all the magic of her words. I have sought out more films ...more

MacDonald tells a beautiful story that needs to be told. Grace's characters are richly developed, endearing and knowable, even the humans! Often, books with social messages get self-ritcheous and pedantic. MacDonald addresses these literary traps directly by her own admission that one of the story's protagonists can at times expect too much of life and of loved-ones. However, these trials result in growth and depth without causing her to sacrifice her morals, ethics and sense of justice; it's a ...more
I read this book on vacation in a small village far from Greece, but with many of the same attributes as the small Greek island where this story takes place. It opened my eyes and heart to the 'people-less' animals around me, and sent me into a personal exam of my relationship with them. There are passages in this book that moved me to tears and outrage, just like the central characters in the book. The descriptions of the life and the people are tangible, you can almost taste the Ouzo and swoon ...more
Eleanore MacDonald has crafted a graceful tale of hope as it touches the lives of the animals and people of a small Greek Island...all in words so beautifully descriptive, your senses will come alive with the telling. This deeply compassionate story strongly lives with me as the days pass from the time I savored its final moments. Laughter and tears flowed along the way as the characters ~ dog, cat and human ~ made their way into my heart and my imagination. A wonderful first book...I look forwa ...more

Eleanore MacDonald’s book ‘All The Little Graces’ was a beautiful testament not only to the people and beauty of Greece itself, but to reaching across cultural lines to find the common compassion that is in & connects all of us- humans or animals. An amazing book to read to find yourself wandering the streets of Greece, delighting in it’s food and energy, while also immersing yourself with the family of Eleni,Harry & Lily as they teach us all what it truly means to spread the love.

Eleanore MacDonald's new book 'All The Little Graces' warmed my heart and stirred my emotions! She walked me through a world of hard stories with grace and redemption, planting seeds of hope. The richness of her protagonists, both four legged and two, made me feel more than I thought I could about stray animals and the lives they lead, and her loving and respectful telling of modern Greece and its people made me not be able to set this book down.

This is a wonderful book to get lost in. It transports you to Greece to follow the story. Beautifully written. Elenore has a gift with words. If you care about the fur creatures of the world, you have to read this. I laughed and cried and realized how large and small our world is and how the animals connect all of us. Thanks for sharing your lovely story with us!
Reading this sweet book slowly ~ Savoring every scene, and the powerful imagery and messsage of each.
Eleanore has done a fine job in telling this story of a special Greek island and her inhabitants.
Margarita and her companions both human and not are believable and worth caring about. The islands
have now become a place to long for...A wonderful read.

"All the Little Graces" is a beautiful story woven with grace, life, love, and redemption. MacDonald's story will take you to a beautiful country where you will find yourself wandering the streets of Greece, experiencing life, food, and even a bit of history; offering a vision of not only the intense beauty of this country, but the harsh reality of street life for "the pitiless ones".

On the very first page we are introduced to a "mangy little brown mutt of a street dog, Margarita", a feisty litt

What an absolutely enchanting and well wrought tale! The author's keen eye for detail paints the pictures vividly. Her intuitive portrayal of human nature and relationships draw us into a family we feel a part of, understanding and compassion shine through in this story of the enduring power of love. Margarita's story is told and the reader follows her in her strife and struggle which happen everyday and all too often go untold, unseen and unaided. Who hasn't asked themselves if they are doing e ...more

It was difficult for me to read this book, because I have a very hard time dealing with the suffering of animals, especially dogs. However, once I made the decision to plunge in, I was quickly captivated by the story and kept going right to the end, despite having to stop a few times to cry. The author's passion for the animals, the people of a small Greek island and for the island itself came through very clearly. There is also a real warmth to the story that drew me in. I was impressed with th ...more
My heart was captured by Margarita, a stray Greek dog, from the very first page. Beautifully written, this is a heartwarming story about the stray dogs (and cats) on a beautiful Greek island. Tho sad, and even disturbing at times, the message is ultimately one of hope. I strongly suggest this one for anyone who calls themselves a dog rescuer.
What a great read!! This story not only transported me away to a lovely Greek island, with Eleanore MacDonald's beautifully descriptive writing style, but also touched my heart with an overwhelming sense of compassion for animals. An inspiring story, and a great vicarious get-away to the magic of the Greek isles!!
I liked it at first and then towards the last third of the book, the detail about the plight of the dogs and descriptions got to be too much. Overall, a good read leaving me longing to spend four months on a small Greek island. Someday!

Growing up a motherless child in Carmel, CA., she found a great solace in the sea, in words and in the animals, drawing it all into her blood until they became a part of her––she has since ...more
