Anna's Herding Cats
I love my historicals. I love my BDSM erotica reads. And damn putting the two together? *girly swoon* I really enjoyed A Measured Risk. It was fresh, steamy, emotional and just a heart touching romance between two very unique characters.

The gist is that after being traumatized and left a widow in a carriage accident Anne has suffered from severe PTSD ad hasn't bee able to leave her home. She's fascinated by Ruel who is visiting, seems fearless and embraces life and can't resist his offer to help

A story about a repressed regency widow who agrees to give herself over to a dominate lord for one month in order to get over her fear of horses and carriages. This story started out very promising but in the end seemed rushed and convoluted and I kinda ended up not really liking either H or h.

Anne, Lady Cranfield witnessed her husband's death after a carriage accident. Since then she has nightmares, panic attacks, and other classic symptoms of PTSD. She observes Jon, Lord Ruel, at a house party

I love erotic historical romances, and Natasha's books meet my needs every time. Especially her latest book A Measured Risk. This is by far my favorite book in her collection, even though Grey's Lady comes in a close second. Anne was on a mission. Ever since the horrid accident that had taken her husband's life, she had lived in an unrelenting grasp of fear. But what Anne never realized was that she had been stuffed into a box long before her husband's death. For lurking inside this studious lad ...more

4.5 stars. Wow, wow, wow. The hottest book I've read in a while. And it's a historical! The hero is smoldering, the less-than-stick-thin heroine is relateable (if a bit too damn stubborn for her own good at the end), and the story was unusual for a book where D/s is central to the plot. The heroine has a major problem (PTSD) and the hero helps her deal with it through careful conditioning... interspersed with lots of steamy sex. Sure, it's totally outlandish, but who cares? This was a fun read t ...more

This story of Jon and Anne is just so fantastic...a widowed Lady plagued by haunting tragedy makes a very tantalizing offer to a Viking-like Lord...will she take a measured risk with him and trust her heart and body to his dominating whims? It is everything I could ever want in an erotic historical romance book! So much passion and heart warming moments between Jon and Anne that's so captivating and erotically edgy at the same time! There's also the sensuous slow build-up of a deep, abiding love ...more

3 1/2 stars (ish) This is an erotic romance with elements of BDSM so something I don't read a great deal. The story of Anne, who is recovering from the trauma of a coach accident in which her husband was killed, and Jon who is a jaded hero living a life of decadence at first glance seems unlikely.

The instant attraction between the two, despite Anne's debility is a forerunner of what is to come. Anne does not realise that her feeling for the Earl of Ruel is sexual because she is trying to rationa

The Following review is my opinion and not a paid review.

This book was simply amazing. It has everything you could possibly want.
After reading this I automatically think "Fifty Shades of What"?
If you are a Fifty Shades of Gray fan than you will totally love and adore this book for sure.

First off, I have to say how well the title of this book fits! A Measured Risk

Natasha Blackthorne's book's just get better and better. This one is by far the best. Its really a work of art and a total masterpiec
My Bookbag by Karen
This book is an erotic, steamy, historical romance. It contains graphic bondage, dominance, and submission.

This story revolves around two enjoyable characters, Anne and Jon. The prologue describes a terrible carriage wreck during which one of the horses tragically kills her husband. After that, she suffers from PTSD. The love she had for horses turns into terror. She already has low self esteem, and comes across as cold and aloof when around others. Jon sees that she has the potential for more.

Natasha Blackthonre was my introduction to the Historical genre and I have to say I could not imagine a better intro. She had me with Grey's Lady and has now taken me on a new adventure and exploration with A Measured Risk.

An emotional tale of a woman trying to live without fear after the loss of her husband from a tragic accident. And a man (who has all but given up on finding love) that helps her to conquer her fears and then some. They each complete the other and introduce new things that eac

A really bad read for me. Although i liked the writing style it wasn't enough for me to overlook the totaly despicable characters. Especially the "hero" made me so mad i had to put down and pick up the book several times before finishing it. He was egoistical, unreasonable, loathsome and absolutely disgusting. I hated him right from the start. As for the "heroine" she was a weakling trying to overcome her fears bla bla bla. To me she was just pathetic. Maybe i'm so disapointed by this book cause ...more

Fantastic Read!

As this is the only mode of land transportation, she becomes a virtual prisoner on the her former estate, now run by her late husband's cousin. Anne desperately needs to overcome her fears for several reasons, one being the horse farm inherited from her Ireland. She can't very well get there, or r

*sigh* Well, I am at a slight loss here; just not sure what to think about this book. I have very mixed feelings about it. I do like historical romance and this one sounded very promising. It started out fine, the tragic back story, then the H/h meeting for the first time but soon after, there were many times that I almost gave up on this book and put it on the DNF shelf. But, I made myself continue reading and finish, because once I start reading a book, I really want the HEA.

This book caused some very mixed feelings to me. While I was excited to see some regency on an erotic story I had my doubts to it. Personally I feel that regency should be treated will outmost care, especially when it considers sexual approach.
So “A Measured Risk” follows Lady Cranfield and The Earl of Ruel.
Lady Cranfield is a very closed woman emotionally. She is afraid to let people reach her heart, even her own husband. She has been deemed cold and unapproachable, but that is how she really

I have read both Regency and Erotica books, but I had never read an Erotic Regency book, so my interest was piqued. I was pleasantly surprised when I read A Measured Risk. Lady Anne Cranfield loses her husband to a horrific accident that leaves her emotionally scarred and terrified of her once beloved horses. Though she had been in a loveless marriage, Anne has a hard time moving on because of the tragedy. She has always been socially awkward and does not trust others easily. She prefers to rely ...more

I was very excited when I was able to finally read A Measured Risk. I am a fan of Natasha Blackthorne and can say that A Measured Risk has lived up to my expectations. I have always had a love of historical romances including Regency. A Measured Risk gave me everything I love about Regency along with the steamy hot erotica; a great combination.

It has been a long while since I have read an erotic historical romance and this one was we worth the wait. It had a few typos, but that can be easily overlooked. Once I started it I couldn't put it down.

Anne, Lady Cranfield, was in a unfulfilled marriage with William, Lord Cranfield. William died in a horrible accident that Anne witnessed. That accident left Anne with a form of PTSD. Since she and William had no heirs, she had to depend on the "kindness" of the new Earl for a place stay.

But what he proposes startles her. How can the jaded Earl of Ruel break through her self-protective defences and show her how to love when he has spent his lifetime avoiding that tender trap?

From the cover art and the blurb, I was certain that I would love every moment of "A Measured Risk." The woman on the cover isn't skinny or perfect, but a woman. Then to read her dedication talking about PTSD and modern BDSM, D/s practices and lifestyles- what a lovely touch. I enjoyed getting to know the character of Lady Cranfield and her history, about her unhappy marriage and how one accident changed her life completely. Anne Bourchier, Lady Cranfield, has a crippling secret she's trying to hide from the world. That is until she meets Jonathan Lloyd, Earl of Ruel. In Jonathan, she sees a possible solution to her problem, if only she has the courage to trust in him.

Trust is a big issue in this book, as with many romance novels. But in this case, this Regency-period tale takes it a step further, into a place many people wonder about but are a little afraid of: BDSM.

I'm not the girl who reads historical romance to learn about how life really was in the Regency period. Honestly, I'm here for the pretty dresses and the balls, and I tend to regard most historical romance as fantasy without the magic anyway.

to that end, A Measured Risk worked well for me. I liked that the journey was the heroine's, and that she was somewhat prickly and too caught up in her head. I bought her as a submissive, and I found the sex scenes hot.

Beautifully written this love story had all the components for a good and entertaining read. Fast paced with a well developed plot to keep you guessing till the last page.
With strong characters the enticing sexual encounters kept the blood hot and the pulse racing so that you did not want to take a break until the very end.
Fear the main topic as our heroin learns to trust, love and allow some one to come close enough, breaking the ice and made her feel wanted, needed and loved.
