Quickie Thought: Amanda Carlson is not a one hit wonder. Hot Blooded is nice addition to the Jessica McClain series.
The Heroine: Jessica is a freak in the supe world. She is the only female werewolf and she's only been able to shift for about a week or so where as other werewolves can shift once they hit puberty. Jessica maybe a late bloomer but she is becoming a bad ass fast!
The Plot: Three werewolves, two vamps and a human enter a bar..... Picture this motley crew on a journey Lord of the Ring More...

Jessica McClain is the only female werewolf in existence. She is also the strongest, fastest and most powerful among werewolves. Not even her father, the strongest Alpha, can force her to obey him if she doesn’t do it willingly. Her first change was met with hostility and anger since it was prophesied that a female werewolf would destroy their entire race. According to a different prophecy, she'll be the one to bring ballance to the entire supernatural community.

We’re baaaack with another annoyingly long, but hopefully fun team review with the UTC Maidens. Suz, Angela and I all adore this series so here’s our thoughts on the very latest, and greatest from Amanda Carlson and the Jessica McClain series…
Describe Hot Blooded in three words:
Suz: Action packed fun!
Annie: [a] kick ass adventure!
Angela: Kick Ass Heroine
This is the second book in the Jessica McClain series, how do you think it compared to the first?

Jess McClain has a lot on her plate in Hot Blooded the second instalment in Amanda Carlson's rather fantastic urban fantasy series. As the first female werewolf ever Jess has caused huge divisions amongst the wolfs who fear the looming prophecy that the rise of a female wolf will result in the end of their werewolf race. On top of this, every sect in the supernatural community now views Jess as a threat that needs eliminated, even half human, half demon Imp's threaten Jess in the car park tellin More...

4.5 Stars This one is a team review
Angela: I equally love FULL BLOODED and HOT BLOODED. Ms. Carlson is consistent with providing an amazingly elaborate world building and well developed characters. She kept me glued to every page attempting to absorb the details of the story.

My English review
Since the end of the first volume I was impatient to rediscover the Jessica McClain's adventures. I must say that the first volume ended on a great event and I only wanted one thing after that: to continue the quest for our heroine to find her dear companion Rourke. This adventure will not be an easy one and it will lead us much further than she would have liked. But it is also a quest that will allow her to understand a part of herself and realize that she i More...

Hot Blooded picks up directly where Full Blooded ends, with the evil goddess Selene spiriting Jessica's cat shifter mate Rourke away. Brand new werewolf Jessica and a select group of companions go on the chase to rescue Rourke and defeat Selene once and for all.
This one was quite different in tone than the previous book and the prequel, and just didn't do it for me. Where they were solid PNR/UF, Hot Blooded took a giant leap into High Fantasy. With the Winged Devils, the Rock Troll, the river Na More...

I put off reading this series for a long time just because I was too busy reading other things but now I can see the error of my ways. This is another excellent story in this series and it keeps you involved from page one.
The main thrust of the story is that Jessica has to get her mate back from a goddess that has gone over the edge (we are talking Mad Hatter crazy) which only makes her more dangerous. What we learn along the way is that Jessica has more power that she is just starting to tap in More...

When I first read Amanda Carlson’s Full Blooded earlier this year, I recall being a little dubious. The “Chosen One” is not one of my favorite tropes in urban fantasy, but when I finished the book, I was very excited for the sequel. I always love when books manage to surprise me, and that’s exactly what Full Blooded did. Hot Blooded is the second book in the Jessica McClain series and it’s a fantastic sophomore effort from Amanda Carlson.

Hot Blooded, the 2nd Jessica McClain novel, picks up immediately after the end of Full Blooded. Jessica has only been a werewolf for a few days. She is the only female werewolf in the world. Prophecies regarding what she is swirl around and endanger her as well as those close to her.
Hot Blooded is as much about Jessica starting to learn about her powers as it is about her desire/need to rescue her mate. As the story progresses we learn more and more about Jessica’s powers along with her. I suspe More...

Braine's Talk Supe review
HOT BLOODED essentially is about Jessica's rescuing Rourke. In a way I felt like this is a filler novel of sorts but the non-stop action balanced the Sequel Curse. I'm surprised that Ray (human cop) barely survived (?) his ordeal, I'm eager to see what his storyline is going to be come Cold Blooded (Jessica McClain 3, October 8, 2013). I disliked the dude in Full Blooded but I have to say he kind of grew on me. I'm so happy that Tyler, MY Tyler, is a main character here More...

The Jessica McClain series has a special place in my bloggy heart as the first book in the series, Full Blooded, was one of the first books I ever reviewed on the blog. I loved Full Blooded and gave it an exuberant five Frodo review so I was understandably quite anxious and excited for the second installment in the series, Hot Blooded.

This was a really good sequel to Full-Blooded. Jessica spent a huge part of this novel trying to rescue her mate, and i loved the reversal of roles, as usually the man is trying to rescue the woman.
Jessica's powers seem to be growing stronger too, and there's a lot of questions about how powerful she will actually be. I can't wait to read the next book to get more answers, since this story left a lot of questions after the ending. Also, Jessica's character was one I really loved. She kept going More...

I absolutely loved this follow-up to Full Blooded! Jessica is really growing in power and learning as she goes. There isn't even really anyone she can talk to about exactly what to expect from her abilities cause she's one of a kind and no one really knows exactly what she's capable of. I love her determination to do the right thing and her compassion. I also love that she's not going to take over as Alpha or try and knock Tyler out of the running for Alpha as that wouldn't have been fair consid More...

Jessica McClain and the crew return in the highly anticipated sequel Hot Blooded for another action packed adventure filled with magic and mayhem. This book was non-stop action from beginning to end. It picked up right after the first book, Full Blooded. We had Jessica, Tyler, Danny and Ray but we also added two new characters, the sibling vampire duo of Eamon and Naomi. This group of may not be on the best of terms, but they do learn to work together to rescue Rourke and make it back alive.

I really wanted to like this book. I thought the first book had a lot of potential. I was a little disappointed that it ended so abruptly, so I was excited to jump into this book hoping that it would pick up the action immediately. Unfortunately, this book was really slow going. Then when we finally got to some action in the form of the hunt for Selene and Rourke, the action turned out to be lame attempts at telling the reader even more ways that Jessica is different from everyone else. But not only is she dealing with this, but is also looking for Rourke while her Dad is looking for who is responsible for starting a war against their pack. In the first few chapters we learn more about the Cain myth, but also another myth that was told to Jessica from an imp.

This book was like following Odysseus on his many quests: the Cyclops, hades, and the sirens...except in this book, Jessica had to fight off demon bats, water something, giant spiders, and zombie goats. I did enjoy Amanda's Latest Hot Blooded but one thing I absolutely abhor are cliffhangers.

They are the kiss of death.
Anyways, Jessica is the only female werewolf to have ever existed (there is a prophecy involved and not a very good one at that). Jessica is on a mission to save her mate, Rourke, from the trickiest goddess, Selene,. The novel is comprised of Selene setting traps and Jessica overcoming them with her bad ass self! This book picks up right after the last book left off. It is the journey you were expecting and it did not disappoint. Lots of action and adventure in harrowing circumstances. In fact it was nearly never ending. It makes sense since the evil Selene wouldn't give up her prize easily. You also get some more insight into the world in which they live and you are also learning with the rest of them. Most of the things weren't known to the weres because they had no need to learn them.
