The third Liv Bergen mystery picks up right where the second one left off: the murder of Liv’s sister-in-law has been solved, but an older rancher has been bludgeoned to death in a style eerily reminiscent of a long-inactive killer known only as the Crooked Man. FBI agent Streeter Pierce, still on assignment in Sturgis, South Dakota, must now turn his sights on tracking do...more

Someone has just tried to kill Helma Hanson. Who would want to kill a dying old woman? Maybe the same person who murdered her husband. It seems that the Crooked Man has striked again. Only this time the Crooked Man has gotten a little too close for comfort. Liv Bergen's sister, Elizabeth tells Liv that she came to visit Helma and it was a good thing as she prevented Helma from passing on. Liv is once again joined by FBI agent, Streeter Pierce. There is a new guy that is joining. His name is Jack...more

Sandra Brannan's third book in the Liv Bergen Mystery series, Widow's Might, is the juicy mystery readers would love to sink their teeth into night after night. There's something between its pages for every reader to enjoy, even if they are discovering the series for the first time. Brannan's writing praises the beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota and places readers in the thrilling moments of action and investigation. The butterflies rumbling in the stomach of fans in anticipation of the...more

I feel like I have been robbed. How is it that I haven't read a Sandra Brannan novel before?

This is an ARC, slated for August 7th to be available to the public. Since I have not read the previous two books, this being the third in the series, I did struggle to get my bearings initially. However, once I felt righted, the story sucked me in. Widow's Might is an excellent story for anyone who loves a great crime novel. Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC. Truly enjoyed it.

Love, love, love Sandra's books. One of these days I'm going to do the driving tour and drive past all the places in the books in chronology of the stories. Since I live here in the area, I go past many of them hit-and-miss, but think it would be fun to do it as Liv does in the stories. In this edition, Liv is caught up in figuring out why these older, typically recently widowed people seem to be dying on their property. Only one has been able to survive an attack and may have clues as to what i...more

This is the third in the Live Bergen series and it is my favorite so far! This one does pick up exactly where book 2 left off. I still think it is possible to read this one without reading the others, but they are awesome so you should read them first! I really like that Liv is not the only strong female character in this story. I think writing women like that are a strong point for Sandra. Some times strong women characters come off with an edge that makes them unrealistic or un-relatable but t...more

Ahhhhh. Once again, Sandra Brannan has totally taken my breath away with her writing. Widow's Might brings back the Liv that I was waiting for, a completely twisted murder that kept me reading, and a fabulous cast of characters. What I love most about this books in this series are how easy they are to get into. Read a page, and you're already hooked.

It's hard to remember that this book takes place only a few short days after the last book ends. My favorite part about Liv's character has always b...more

I received this book along with In the Belly of Jonah and Lot's Return to Sodom as part of a promotion with Friday Reads. I was supposed to take part in a Twitter chat with the author but I missed it because it was held in the middle of the work day.

Widow's Might is the third in a series by Sandra Brannan. It is not important to have read the first two books before reading this book but there are far too many unnecessary references to the first stories in an attempt to drum up interest in the fi...more

2.5 out of 5 stars

This first of this Liv Bergen mystery series, In the Belly of Jonah, entertained me despite its flaws. The second, Lot's Return to Sodom, was disappointing to me. I gave this new one a chance, hoping it would hold my interest as the first did but overcoming some of the flaws of the first work.

While this one didn't fall into that “wish I hadn't read it” category, it did disappoint. There were so many characters that there were too many words spent explaining how they all tied to...more

I like this book. I like the characters, the writing style. But I can't read the book. I can't rate the book. And there is a very simple reason.

Widow's Might is the third book in the Liv Bergren series. And I haven't read books 1 and 2. Normally, that doesn't pose much of a problem. Authors are aware that readers don't necessarily start with the first book and slowly reintroduce characters and if the plots of the previous novels are important enough, they briefly explain them as needed. But this...more

This is a brand new Liv Bergen mystery that picks up right where, Let’s Return to Sodom left off.
Readers find themselves back in the eerie world of the Black Hills of South Dakota. Not only is this a place that a killer could get lost in, but it’s also steeped in history that dates back to the time of the gold rush and General George Custer.

The killer Liv is about to meet up with is one who has been ‘off the map’ for a while now. The Crooked Man disappeared long ago, but a new crime is committed...more

I won an Advance Reader's Copy of Widow's Might in a GoodReads give away.

I thought this book was a good "Beach Read". It really should be a 2.5 Star rating, but as that's not possible, I ranked it 2 stars rather than 3 for it's soap opera traits. This is the 3rd in the Liv Bergen series. I have not read the first two books so it took me about 30 pages into Widow's Might to "get up to speed" on the story line and various characters that were apparently carried over from the previous books.

"Widow's Might" by Sandra Brannan was a awesome mystery novel. The "Widow's Might" is the third book in the Liv Bergren Series and this novel will continue on with some of the same characters from the previous reads. Be ready for a lot of action that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you edge into the meat of this novel about the 'Crooked Man' that has striked once a...more

My " in a nutshell" summary...

Elderly people are dying or being murdered...the lovely red haired Liv is sort of in the midst of all this along with a temptingly attractive agent...Streeter.

My thoughts after reading this book...

I stumbled through the first chapter or two because I didn't realize this was the third in a series but once I got my reading bearings it was sort of easy to keep everything straight.

Liv is a miner...as in mining...and has a past with someone c...more

In the 3d book in the Liv Bergen mystery series we pick up right where we were left off in book 2 “Lot’s return to Sodom” there were murders yet unsolved as ranchers in the beautiful black hills of South Dakota where Liv’s family live and work seem to be dying mysteriously at an alarming rate. These books are sequential which I love so, you should read them in order. Personally I would never read a book out of order no matter if you “could” or not, as it would drive me nuts. Just a book quirk wi...more

Widow’s Might is the third installment in the Liv Bergen mysteries. I’ll disclose that I have not had the chance to read the previous books, though I am sure I would enjoy them. With that being said, I would like to let everyone know that I wouldn’t say its necessary, but always recommended for awesomely written stories.

I haven't read the first two Liv Bergen books, but that doesn't seem to matter all that much in terms of getting into the series. As far as I can tell, the action in the first two takes place a mere month - or less - before this book, with the immediate predecessor covering a mere few days earlier. That did make it a little difficult getting started, as you have to figure out what exactly is happening and who is who (cold starts that assume you've read the previous book aren't my favorite; this...more

Widow's Might was overall a very good mystery novel that kept me entertained throughout. This was the first novel I've read in the Liv Bergen Mystery series, so some parts were a little confusing, given I didn't know characters backgrounds. I do now want to go back and read the previous two books in the series because I liked this one so much. This story is about a Crooked Man who has been killing for years, yet the case has gone unsolved. After the latest killing, detectives begin to figure out...more

This is the type of book and series that keeps you coming back for more. In this story, someone has tried to kill a dying woman. The mystery is why. For those who follow my reviews, you know I like a strong female lead and this book fits the bill with the likable Liv Bergen.

The characters are well thought out and ones you want to know better. I had not yet read the first two books and initially I felt like the story picked up where book two ended. I was able to catch up and read this as a stand...more

By volunteering to take part in a Twitter Book Club I received a copy of each Liv Bergen novel.

Widow's Might is the 3rd book in the series and I had no problem picking up the story line (for those who like to read in order). The characters are unpredictable and the story-line keeps you hanging until the end. A couple of times I thought I might have it figured out but I didn't. I love characters that are drawn into investigations, Liv is "recruited" to help by the FBI. I think I like this story...more

I thought that the book got off to a slow start. I was eager to bring the different people in the story together. I don't really think that that ever really happened the way I was expecting it too. I really like the character Liv, but I would like to hear more about her on a personal level. I feel like the author held back on letting us get close to the characters. I loved the author's details on the history of the Black Hills area. I read the entire book, but it was hard to hold my attention at...more

You cannot meet this author – as I had the opportunity to do at the 12th Annual SIBA (Southern Independent Book Association) Convention this past September - and not like her immediately. So I have been avoiding reading her book – what if I hated it? Fortunately, it is totally not an issue. I liked it so much I actually intend to go back and read earlier books in the Liv Bergen Mystery Series, even though I hate going backwards in series! But I really like these characters, and the author’s voic...more

I loved the fast moving plot. The short chapters always kept me on the edge of my seat. The author clearly did a lot of research and brought in just enough information about the area and the history to make it completely believable. Can't wait until book 4 is out!!

I got this book through Goodreads First Reads and it was the third in the series so I did go back to read the first 2 books and then begin this one. I really loved all three books
I am very surprised that I had not heard of them and I did have some trouble locating the first 2 books I checked 18 libraries and came up empty at every one I finally just purchased the ebooks and I am very glad I did. I love Liv and I can't wait to read about her future adventures!!

This third Liv Bergan mystery starts up right where the second one ended. Liv's knowledge of the history and geography of South Dakota is making her more and more valuable to the FBI team working there. Now they've presented her with the man hunting bloodhound, Bullah, and have asked her to join the FBI as the dog's tracking handler. Liv has really been enjoying the investigative parts, but the endangering and life threatening parts make her question if she'd rather continue working in her famil...more

After not being so enthused about the last installment of the Liv Bergen saga, I was very happy to see how this story was interwoven with the past two and the growth of the characters and further development of Liv and Streeter's relationship.

So lucky to have been able to read this one early, because I couldn't take waiting anymore! Had to know what Liv was up to in the third book of Brannan's series. The author doesn't disappoint - another fantastically thrilling read!!

She enjoys working with relatives in the mining business; living in the Black Hills with her husband; smiling over the journeys taken by her sons; doting over her grandchildren; and appreciating all of life's blessings.
