Queen Elizabeth II has never had it so good, relatively speaking. She may well have reigned over some troubled times but she has had nothing to contend with such as many of her forebears had.

For instance, Willam II was killed by an arrow while out hunting - accident or murder?; Henry II was blamed for the murder of Thomas a Becket; Henry IV was taken prisoner by his brother-in-law Simon de Montfort; Edward II was imprisoned in Berkeley Castle and eventually murdered there; Richard II, having put

One day I was sitting in Regency Park and I suddenly decided to memorize the chronological order of the English royal heads of state, starting with the Normans. Thanks to Hatchards, I found just what I was looking for, a miniature book with enough information to help me on my venture. Each King/Queen has a portrait and a page of information. Stephen is cross-eyed (and where is Matilda?) and Edward II's fate always has me wondering about the Pommies. I must have been very bored.

A wonderful little reference book. We use it all the time with movies or history channel programs that crop up. Wish there was something similar for France, Germany, US....

It's a short book with one photo and a one page, thumbnail sketch of each. Pretty concise and it gives a nice snapshot of each ruler.
