Ever read a series and feel completely... depressed? disappointed? at the end? Or at least I'm assuming this is the end of this series...I could be wrong. I went into this knowing it was the least favorite out of the series and I completely agree.

Kevin is my favorite out of the series but even this wasn't his best book. He gives up being a rent boy and ends up working with his mother on her TV show. Bor-ingggggg. I missed all of the crazy tales about his clients and their q...more

I'm ready now. This was more like a 3.5 stars for me. Over all, it was good. The first two in the series were great, though. The storyline about Kevin and his mother was too much for me. It was cute, but I found it unbelievable and skipped most of it because I knew it had no bearing on the main story.

There wasn't enough time spent with developing Tony and Kevin's relationship. There were moments here and there, but very little of the book was devoted to them. It seemed that mostly, they fought a...more

This review is for books 1,2 and 3. A murder mystery series with lots of beautiful, narcissistic gay men and the occasional unattractive and/or psycho female character. The conversations are mostly about how attractive the guys are or how attractive they find each other. Spontaneous stiffies grace almost every page. It's fairly shallow stuff. The murder mysteries are not too bad but because I didn't find Kevin et al interesting, I didn't really care if one of them kicked the bucket. Tony, the cl...more

Third You Die is a complex gay mystery love story. It's the third of a series and I loved all of them. Scott Sherman draws characters that are vivid, human and unique down to the most minor of secondary ones. E.g. the girl at the day care, where Kevin has to pick up his lover's son. She is so alive though only appearing for a few paragraphs.

I immensly enjoyed Mr. Sherman's writing style and the plot drew me in on many levels: There was the mystery taking twists and turns, there was Kevin's mothe...more

I wrote to Scott Sherman after I finished the previous book in the Kevin series and we had a great email series going for a while, but then I mentioned two points of advice, after which I never heard from him again.

I don't imagine my email had much impact on him, but the fact is with this new book, he did take both those points and action them.

The first was to put more of Kevin into the character of Kevin and less of himself. In the second book there was a reference to a quarter not being worth...more

Lost its luster. Monotonous storyline. Character frustration.

Unfortunately the third time was not a charm, at least not for me. I enjoyed the first two books a great deal, but it seems I should have stopped while I was ahead.
Kevin was the same Kevin, but his sweet adorable charming ways turned a bit too snobbish for my taste. His career change bored me to tears. But, more than anything I was bothered with his deteriorating self-respect and willingness to become the doormat he had always refused...more

To pile on with all the other reviews, I definitely didn't enjoy this third book as much as the first two. Maybe I'm tired of the formula of the series by now? There's a murder mystery, there's friction between Kevin and Tony about their relationship, there's an outlandish subplot with Kevin's wacky mother, everyone that Kevin meets thinks he's the most perfect male specimen ever and wants to have sex with him, Kevin references his ADHD every other page and his two semesters of psychology that o...more

With each book in Scott Sherman's Kevin Connor Mystery series [alas, trilogy?] I find myself falling more under Kevin's spell. He's the kind of person I'd love to know in real life: confident, smart—especially of the street and people variety, intuitive, self-aware and caring. That's one of Kevin's biggest assets—well, that and being so danged cute!
He cares about people. He's not, delightfully, saintly or a goody-goody. He's someone that I admire and respect, even when I feel like kicking his b...more

Kevin Conner is the same height as I am 5'3" and probably around the same weight. His weight is all lean little cute man muscle, and mine....isn't. Kevin is also insatiably, hopelessly curious. So I am I, but I'm not wiling to endanger my life to find answers, the way Kevin is. His nosiness has gotten him into trouble before, because it's coupled with compassion and concern for others.

Add ADHD to the mix, and Kevin cannot seem to follow his boyfriend Tony's admonition to "let the police handle i...more

This was going along for me at a pretty steady 3 until the end. I actually enjoyed it more then the second one, and had kinda accepted the fact that Kevin was going to end up with Tony whether I wanted him to or not. The mystery was better than the second one and I was digging Kevin's narrative voice. Then came the last couple of chapters in the book which a) came out of nowhere and b) left be thinking, "What... the fuck... was that?" Commit to a genre, Mr. Sherman. Either these are mystery stor...more

I love Kevin Connor. He's just an adorable hero, and I love the way he interacts with everyone around him, from his closeted cop boyfriend, to his boyfriend's young son, to his mother and his co-workers and friends. In his charm, he reminds me a lot of Russell Quant, in Anthony Bidulka's series.

This book was a worthy sequel to the previous two-- Kevin continues to grow as a person and a sleuth, and the plot is clever and well-structured, with a believable and very satisfying conclusion. Scott Sh...more

Hmmm.

I didn't like this one as much as the first two. The plot seemed too disjointed, there were too many obvious plot holes or logic failures (which were easier to accept in the first two books, but somehow less excusable here), the artificiality of the "here's a snarky moment" "here's an aw-shucks moment" "here's a heartwarming moment" "here's a political statement moment" writing technique grated on me more than in the first two, and I really really wanted to slap Kevin for being such a door...more

My favorite rent boy is back! But this time, things have changed. Kevin and Tony are an item, and Kevin has retired from the business. But don't think he's settled down. Life has plenty of crazy moments now that he's working on his mother's new daytime talk show, Sophie's Voice. And Freddy's still around, supporting him and driving him crazy by turns. And try as he might, Kevin can't quite keep himself out of mortal danger. There is still plenty of conflict in his relationship with Tony. And alt...more

First a warning - DO NOT read the blurb for this book before you read the book itself as it contains a pretty big spoiler that you don't actually find out until you're about 80% through the story!

Kevin yet again finds himself in the middle of another mystery this time involving porn stars. He has a new job, working on his mother's chat show and he's now living with his closeted cop boyfriend, Tony. Kevin and Freddy still made me laugh and there were some interesting new characters introduced. Ke...more

Scott is an amazing writer and story teller. I enjoyed this book so much! There were 3 major plot lines in this book: The Brent Havens' disappearance mystery, Kevin and Tony's ongoing relationship and Kevin's mom's t.v. show. All three were nicely woven together.

Brent Havens' Mystery: I could not figure out what happened to Brent until it was revealed! I had my suspicions as to who was behind his disappearance but I couldn't figure out a motive. When it was finally revealed, I was very saddened...more

Ended up skipping the middle section again. (view spoiler)[a after before Kevin calls the Brent dude and then started again at the interview of Peterson (hide spoiler)]

It wasn't bad when I did that. Sadly, I had to skip parts because I was so bored. That doesn't bode well for any book.

Still, I rather liked the ending. It was sweet. My mind, meanwhile, is considering all of the practical sides (or impractical, as it were) of an openly gay cop, but w/e. The closet romantic wins this time.

2.5 stars

First 95% - repetitive, over-the-top, skimmed
Last 5% - happy, happy, joy, joy

I still love Kevin.
But, the book bored me to tears.
The ending is completely out-of-character.
But, I loved it...because I'm a sap.

Would I want another book in this series? Yes, if Sherman would focus more on the relationships and tighten up the mystery. Too much extraneous detail, too many characters, too much nonsense.

How about at least, an epilogue with Kevin & Tony?

3.5-4 stars (?)

I tried to love this as much as the first 2 books, but this was just too....sad (?), melodramatic(?), depressing(?), I guess. I can't seem to grab it, but something was missing...
It was too much worry over Tony and not enough fun times, especially since Kevin quit hustling and is now working for his Mom...

And (view spoiler)[I just hate Tony, I never really liked him, but now I just HATE him, I love HEA, but wish things didn't end the way they did, it would have been better. (hide...more

Not as well put together as Second You Sin, but it contains (1) the hottest sex scene I have ever read, bar none and (2) one of the funniest scenes of any kind anywhere--that being how Kevin manages to question a porn film director during a screen test without taking off his trousers.

I love these books and dearly hope there are more in the works. I'm also hoping for a Nook-compatible e-release of First You Fall at some point....

If you enjoyed book 1 and 2 in the series, you will enjoy this one, too!
Kevin was as adorable as in the other books, I totally loved him and want to read more about him.
Reading this book was totally entertaining, you won't find a boring page.

It should be a 5* read but I don't like Tony. I wished Kevin to leave him so badly throughout the story.
(although Tony redeemed himself at the end of the story)

And, the missing star was also because of its high price. Although I enjoyed the story very much...more

Yup, loved this one.. Almost cried at the end..Maybe I got a bit teary.. who knows..

This series is of a very high calibre. I loved the lead's internal monologues, it was a great way to feel that you knew this guy, he was a part of you.

I just can't think of anything that struck me as being wrong with either the storyline or the characters. A very humorous walk through murder and intrigue.

I guess if I have to find something to whine about (and seriously it's so inconsequential I don't want anyo...more

Third You Die by Scott Sherman is the entertaining and somewhat insightful installment of the absolutely fabulous Kevin Connor Mystery series. To read my review in its entirety, please click HERE.

I loved this series , it was fun, sexy and thoroughly enjoyable. Kevin is a warn, funny, kind, smart, really good guy. His friends and family are crazy and lovable and irritating the way family and friends should be. I cared about all of them, which is what makes a great book for me - characters I connect with and care about. This series had it in spades!, and a happy ending that made mr cry. I couldn't ask for better. Read it.

Excellent read, great sequel, and a LOT of fun. I'm not really sure how Scott Sherman consistently takes extremely dark subjects and makes them into what I would otherwise qualify as a Cozy Mystery. Well, it is light and funny, anyway, even it doesn't star a maiden aunt solving mysteries she stumbles across.

Okay, okay, I admit, I love Kevin and he is just in the face cute, witty and adorable. Yes, I think the third book is a worthy addition to the series and I love that Kevin has become a bit more mature but is still his funny self.

pretty good. It seemed a little rushed in the end. I thought the ending was a little out of character for the characters and looked like a rush to finish a series that held the promise of having other books in it.

Third installment even worse than second; skipped over 2\3 of the book. If I hadn't bought the 2nd and 3rd books together I won't have bought the third after reading the second. Since I had it, wanted to finish the trilogy hoping for a good ending. Denied. Instead got the Hollywood love story ending.
