Darkness Rising (Book 2 of the Into the Shadows Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
I found this book much more enjoyable than the first. I felt that the first book started off slow, laying the foundation for the plot and characters. This one starts off with action and adventure from the very beginning and it kept me going until the end. More pieces of the puzzle are added, new characters are introduced and I loved the when they go to Nepal to train and master their powers. Yes it ends on a cliffhanger but...more

Finished this last night just a little before midnight. I'll go with another 3.5 stars. I see some people have stated that they thought this one was slow and that nothing happens. I don't think that at all. This book is about about Paivi going on a journey to prepare to fight the bad guy. You still get a little of the bad guys point of view as well. This series is essentially a teenage version of the TV show Heroes (of which I was a fan). I liked the second book better because pacing was smoother, and there was less high school silliness. And she and her brother talk and behave as if they're older than 14 and 13; the romance might be more enjoyable, too, if she and her love intere...more
I have been eagerly awaiting this sequel to Into the Shadows. Dealing with mass hysteria and emulating the atrocities that happened to innocents during the Red Scare, the Holocaust, and the Japanese Internment camps, Kirkpatrick’s Into the Shadows Series quickly captivates the reader. Likewise, the message she expounds about prejudice is loud and clear, and I think both of these novels are must reads for our youth.
