Shelves: gay, gay-fantasy
Basically this is your classical sword and sorcery high fantasy, sub section "wars-among-kingdoms" as opposed to "random-group-of-heroes-on-a-quest".
Many conventions of the genre are duly and carefully respected both in plot and characterization, including what I deem to be the major flaw of the novel: Meriq, the lead, is wise and cunning far beyond his years and, for the sake of good plot twists, he is not always consistent in his opinions and behaviour.

READ THIS BOOK.

Okay, so maybe I should write more than that. This is an amazing fantasy tale about a war to defeat a dark army. Sounds familiar, right? But seriously, as a fantasy fanatic, I was impressed. The main character is incredibly well developed and surprisingly likable for all his devious nature. He manages to orchestrate a vast wartime enterprise while never losing his firm beliefs even though he's only sixteen at the start. The romance is lovely (and homosexual in nature). Go Dthor! T
