Well, I was expecting the worst...but thank God it wasn't the worst of the series (that honor goes to Sweet Persuasion). I knew going in that I wouldn't like the D/s relationship and all that ordering around that it entails, and god help me if the bondage elements got too extreme...but I started this series and stubborn fool that I am I'm determined to see it through!

So..the D/s relationship? Wasn't too bad. Yes, there was ordering around of the "get on your knees" and "take off your clothes" ty...more Well, I was expecting the worst...but thank God it wasn't the worst of the series (that honor goes to Sweet Persuasion). I knew going in that I wouldn't like the D/s relationship and all that ordering around that it entails, and god help me if the bondage elements got too extreme...but I started this series and stubborn fool that I am I'm determined to see it through!

So..the D/s relationship? Wasn't too bad. Yes, there was ordering around of the "get on your knees" and "take off your clothes" type, but thank god nothing humiliating like in Sweet Persuasion. And the heroine liked it rough and with a bit of pain... And of course the hero had to do the clothes shopping for the heroine, picking out what she would wear and such (and naturally the getting-it-on-in-the-dressing-room scene). I guess this is part of how the Dominant shows his dominance, which I guess sometimes could be okay...but jeez, I just couldn't relate to not having a say in things like that. But what do I know? Our heroine, Ren, sure did seem to enjoy it.

There was one kinky, wrap the heroine up in rope scene that was just hard to fathom...and the usual spanking with hand, belt and small oar (yes, I said "oar") that left a flaming red behind and some welts (no breaking of the skin, of course!) Yeah, either I'm getting immune to this stuff...or maybe it just wasn't that extreme?

So the bedroom stuff really didn't do much for me. However, there was one exception that involved "Captain Mike" and his steward, C.J. which I found strangely titillating (lol) Okay, enough about that, you'll just have to read it.

My other problem with the book (besides the D/s stuff) was the heroine herself. Petite, beautiful Korean Ren..torn between two lovers...who will she choose? I just couldn't see her appeal! Why would these two, successful, hunky guys seem so besotted with her? Well maybe Cole's obsession I could understand, since he was her (nearly) childhood sweetheart, and he felt guilt over their breakup ten years ago...but Lucas? This gazillionaire could have anyone--why Ren? Was it her neediness? Was it her fear of abandonment? Was it her willingness to give up complete control to the men in her life? She didn't seem to have much of a life without her men. I mean, besides her having a fledgling career as a children's book author, what else did she have? No girlfriends to hang with, no family that she got along with, no outside interests besides liking to dance and to have kinky sex and to serve her man...yes, I just didn't find her all that relatable. I know it wasn't part of the D/s relationship, but I wanted her to have a say in things, to speak up, disagree or fight for what she wanted. But I guess when you're a submissive, you don't do that. Hmm, now I see the problem...

Why do I keep reading this series if I'm so bothered by it? Well, it's not all bad. I do enjoy Maya Banks's writing, even if I'm not on board with the subject matter or how the characters act. And every now and then she hits it out of the park in this series (Sweet Possession: Sweet Series, Book 5). I guess I don't mind if the character is a submissive in the bedroom, but when she's also one outside the bedroom, that's when I have a problem.

So fans of this series, or those who don't mind the D/s relationship, enjoy. The writing is fine, it's not over-the-top kinky, there are a few hot sex scenes. So what if the heroine is sometimes irksome--you'll probably love every dominating inch of Cole, and maybe even like Lucas too. This was far from my favorite of the series, but it wasn't the worst, either. 3 1/2 stars

Warning: This book contains graphic sex (oral and anal), and language. Ménage scenes; binding with rope in a mind-boggling way; spanking till your butt is on fire; and being served up to a couple of strangers. Not for the faint of heart!(less)

Extremely disappointing to me after anticipating Cole's story for so long. Readers who have not followed the series may enjoy it, however, those like myself who have a knowledge of Cole's character from the prior books will be greatly disappointed in how his character changes, the lifestyle he chooses and the woman he ends up loving. I don't know when I've been this angry over a character's story. I'm thankful the series is over. Unbelievable!

There was no funny drunken ‘girls night out’ in this one, and no wrap-up to the couples from the previous books. We get a few things about their lives here and there; but not much. This book was almost a standalone read, especially since Cole was not part of the series gang. There was no funny drunken ‘girls night out’ in this one, and no wrap-up to the couples from the previous books. We get a few things about their lives here and there; but not much. This book was almost a standalone read, especially since Cole was not part of the series gang. Cole has been in several of the books, but with a very limited presence. He was the club member who liked to flog, prepare subs, set up scenes, and watch. Another thing that was established about Cole in previous books was that he didn’t share; which was blown out of the water in this one, in more ways than one.

In his own book, it turns out that Cole is a very successful and financially well-off man. He is not quite a happy man, as he let his first sub, the only woman he ever really loved slip through his hands. Ren was the girl he first dabbled in the lifestyle with 10 years before. When he meets up with her again, she is fully vested and happy in the life as a slave to her current Master, Lucas. Lucas, being the great guy that he is lets Cole ‘borrow’ his slave for 2 weeks, to ‘resolve past issues’. Ren and Cole’s old love is re-kindled to no surprise. Cole made it clear he was going to use the allotted time to win her back. What did surprise me was that both Lucas and Cole were more than willing to share Ren with other men; especially Cole, with the limited time he would have with her; and her being the one great love of his life. The club scene with Lucas was hot; but the ‘punishment’ scene on the yacht Cole set up with the two men, however, was crass, crude, and pointless. The last scene on the yacht, with Mike, was just nasty. Actually, there were a couple of scenes in the book that were just raunchy and downright nasty.

The sex was hot, (if sometimes clinical); and the sex/BDSM was intense. It was actually much more psychological D&S than S&M; and in both relationships the BDSM was very powerful, personal, and mostly private. Ren was a deeply submissive 24/7 slave and a bit of a pain slut, which Cole is happy to provide. The book was a little on the short side; with too much sex and not enough story. This left me not feeling much about what happened to the characters, as I never really got to know them well between all the sex scenes. I also felt detached from the story most of the time, unable to get deeply involved with it. It was no surprise how the book ended, you knew what was going to happen; but the plan they came up with was kind of tacked on the end without much thought. It would have worked better for me if the two master/one slave polyandrous arrangement had been brought in earlier; and dealt with in a more realistic manner.

This worked okay as an erotica book; but not at all as an erotic romance. I just wasn’t drawn deeply into the story, nor did I find it particularly romantic. It sometimes felt like reading a case study of a Dom/sub lifestyle relationship. In a lot of ways, Banks was so doggedly determined to explain and portray the lifestyle, to the point that the story and romance suffered; and often got lost completely. It was like Banks was trying to cram in every kink she could think of, plus the kitchen sink in this one book. I laughed in a few of the BDSM scenes Cole set up that came out kind of cheesy, and there was a serious amount of overkill in some of the scenes. It made me think, but didn’t leave a lasting impression; and the lifestyle portrayed was definitely not for me. I didn’t care for the ending, not only was it cheesy, it was more of an HFN than an HEA. I just couldn’t see this arrangement working out in the long run, and didn't buy into the Polyandrous fairy tale. So, this really wasn’t my kind of story; but I have been reading this series for years, and after 5 books, I was invested in seeing it to the end. I really like all the regular characters in this series, and enjoy keeping up with them; especially this one last time. This one was not quite as icky as Micah's book; but got really close a couple of times. The tone in this one is more psychologically intense and less raunchy, but just a little bit less raunchy.

All in all, this was a fairly enjoyable read; but not at all what I was looking for in the last book of the series. I’d like to think that Banks could write another one that wrapped things up better with all the characters.

What Did I Think? I am on the fence about Sweet Addiction. On one hand I loved the individual relationships with each man (and the smokin hot smexin) but something was just missing. It's been a while since I've been this emotionally distraught over a book, but oh my god. This book made me so angry, I have no words.

Banks introduced us to Cole in earlier books, and I immediately fell in love with his character. HEAR THAT? IN LOVE. What she made him go through in this book... *pulls out hair*

Cole Madison has been a character we’ve seen throughout the Sweet series. So I was interested to see what Maya Banks had in store for him. However, I never would have anticipated the events that happened in this book. Banks brings readers another exciting, evocative story that will sure to raise your pulse rate and make your toes curl!

SWEET ADDICTION is written in three parts – Lucas, Cole and then Ren. In each respective section, Banks focuses more on one hero and Ren’s relationship with that person. So for example, the first 100 pages of the book covers Ren’s time with Lucas, the man who she is presently seeing and his happy with. However, when Cole Madison walks back into her life after leaving her for what he believes was for her own good, Ren can’t help but wonder what her life would be like if she was with Cole. Lucas sees this spark in Ren’s eyes when she sees Cole and proposes to hand Ren over to Cole for the duration of two weeks where she becomes Cole’s sole possession. In this time, Ren belongs to Cole and at the end of the two weeks, Ren must decide who she wants to spend her future with.

Already the premise of this book is intriguing, but let me tell you, there is so much more in this book that I could ever hope to share with you all. You really need to read it in order to grasp the emotional depth that Banks has poured into this book.
After reading the first 100 pages of this book (Lucas’s part), I thought, “Wow, Lucas really cares for Ren. They truly belong to each other.” The book could have ended there and I would have given it a 5 star rating. But there was more...

I worried that Cole wouldn’t be able to live up to what Lucas had accomplished already. Lucas was firm, but fair. And in those first 100 pages, I really believed that Ren was happy with Lucas. However, in the next few pages or so, Banks lays out the backstory between Cole and Ren and their time together as young adults so helplessly in love. Cole loves her and he shows her how much in those two weeks by her side. By the end of Cole’s part, I again felt overwhelmed, thinking, “Ren and Cole really do love each other. They truly belong to each other.” Hold on. Wait, wait. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Two men. Two incredibly written men. And she has to choose...
My heart is already breaking.

Caught between two men, belonging to both and yet, not really wholly belonging to either one. Ren is placed in an unbearable spot and as I read this book, I found it so difficult to choose between the two because both men are such great people. They both love her and understand her. I am so happy with how the book ended. It was perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing.

In addition to the amazingly written men and the emotional depth, Banks creates a very strong, self-confident heroine in Ren. She is half-Korean and both men adore her Asian attributes. I loved how honest she was and how willing she was to give up control. These men only have control in the bedroom because it was given freely by Ren so seeing her strength throughout this book really made me admire her.
I could go on and on about how much I loved this book, but it won’t mean much unless you pick up SWEET ADDICTION and see for yourself. This book is already on my favorites of 2012 list and I’m sure that there will be some rereads in the near future. It was simply addicting.

He played a larger role in Micah and Angeline’s story when he finally let himself get more emotionally involved, being a part of Micah and Angelina’s relationship. All of that was a substitute for the huge hole that’s been in his life since he walked away from the woman he loves, Ren. They were young and just starting to test their dominant/submissive relationship. They were both learning together what worked for them, what didn’t and defining what their relationship was together. Cole, fairly inexperienced at the time, didn’t take the whip to her correctly and ended up scarring her back. He was mortified that he harmed the woman he swore to always protect and love and he fled.

Ten years later Cole sees Ren for the first time since leaving her and vows to do anything to get her back. She’s wearing another man’s collar and is in a happy, fulfilling relationship with Lucas. She’s been with him for the past year and he helped her recover from a previous relationship that damaged her emotionally and ruined her self-confidence. Lucas is her rock and he gets her, like only Cole was able to in the past. We get a good bit of story in the beginning laying the foundation of what Ren and Lucas currently have going, and it’s pretty damn good. I’ve always been a big fan of Cole and thought for sure he’d be my guy throughout this book, but Lucas is such a good man. He gets Ren, he knows what she needs and he loves her. I was fully on board with Lucas as a co-leading man early on. Lucas notices Ren’s reaction when she sees Cole and knows that her feelings were never resolved. He only wants what’s best for her and decides to give her to Cole for two weeks. It’ll either be two weeks of closure for these two, or it’ll throw a huge wrench in all their lives if the love Ren and Cole once shared never diminished. Of course it’s not all smooth sailing, we need that angst! Lucas also doesn’t do a good job of explaining why he’s given her to Cole for two weeks, and her confidence takes a little dip when she things that now Lucas has tired of her and won’t want her back.

The bed dipped and her eyes flew open. She’d been lost in her thoughts and hadn’t even realized Cole had returned. Such inattention would only gain his censure.

But he didn’t call her on it. He merely slid his arms around her body and pulled her until her back was flush against his chest.

“You can talk to me, Ren.”

She went still for a moment as his words washed over her. It was as if the last years melted away and they were young again. Inseparable. Set to conquer the world, hand in hand. Ren and Cole.

Oh God, she couldn’t handle this without breaking down.

She turned in his arms and clutched at him as she buried her face in his chest. Hot tears spilled down her cheeks and onto his bare skin.

He locked her to him, holding her tightly, one leg thrown possessively over her as if shielding her from the world. It was a clear statement. Nothing can hurt you here. It was such a familiar gesture that it sent a fresh wave of pain through her heart.

Cole and Ren have two weeks together. Cole is DOMINANT from the start and there are scenes that push the limits a bit, and one on a yacht that had me doing a combination of wide eyes and an eye roll; it was a bit over the top for me, but all his dominant, controlling scenes just drove home the point that he gave Ren exactly what she needed and wanted. He got her, no matter how intense the scene was (intense in the sense of multiple men pleasuring Ren) and after the two weeks were up, Ren has an impossible choice to make. She loves both men completely and is now expected to pick one.

With any erotic, BDSM book, the sex scenes play an obviously huge role and sex is usually happening after every 3-4 pages. On that aspect alone, this was probably a 3-star read for me. What pushed the rating up was the emotion. I wasn’t expecting to like Lucas as much as I did and as the end was getting near, I didn’t want her to pick just one guy and leave the other man devastated. I liked how Cole and Lucas had honest conversations about their situation and I was happy with how it was all ultimately resolved.

Part of the fun of the Sweet series is the Sweet women and all the fun they have when they get together. That was disappointment, not having a crazy scene with all the girls. Yes, it wouldn’t have made sense in this story to include that, Cole and Ren aren’t a big part of that group, but I still missed it. Damon, Serena, Micah and Angelina have a few scenes and it’s always nice to catch up with past characters, but I did miss the charm of having all the women showing up and driving their men crazy with their plans and adventures.

This was an overall nice read. Some of the sex scenes, especially when strangers were brought in by either Lucas or Cole was a little “eh” for me, but when it got down to the relationship between Cole, Ren and Lucas, it was emotional and well done.(less)

2.5 marked up as I like the series. This book just didn't work for some reason. Perhaps because it was a rekindling of a past relationship. Perhaps something else. I like the characters but there was a lack of frission and somehow it just didn't hold my interest. It took me weeks to finish, as opposed to the day or two that's usual for the books in this series. And the ending. Not cool! Surprises like that are not good.

I LOVE steamy novels!! but this one really disappointed me. The main girl is used like a sex toy, plus the fact she has no brains. She wants to be abused, yes I'm sure there are woman like this but I just found it quite hard to read, and in fact made me so mad, I wanted to write the author. I loved fifty shades, and many other sexy novels. In one part the two main men ( she loves them both) are humiliating her talking about her as if she isn't even there. It really bothered me. I was curious about how the story will end that's why I gave this book a try. This is also the first book of Maya Banks that I read. To tell you the truth it took me a long time to finish it. I can't really wrap my head to the flow of the story. It's not like the other books that you can't close and can't stop reading. I also put it aside and read something else. But somehow I gave it another try and promised to finish it even though I wasn't into it anymore.

This was perhaps the most profound and beautifully written book I have ever had the pleasure to read. As a woman who is in the BDSM lifestyle herself, I applauded every single word and sentence which made the paragraphs enticing and gripping. I felt the words become emotions and come to life as a beautiful and wondrous picture was painting in my mind. Sweet series was my favorite series of Maya until this book.
The second and third book were extraordinary.Although Angelina and Lyric books was ok and terrible,respectively...but Sweet Addiction was the worst!
I was very excited to read Cole's book,because he was amazing in the previous books.
I've read a great "trio" books,but this one is far far away from this.

That out of the way...WOW I think I was rendered an emotional heavy heart mess with this story. Not a lot of back story with supporting characters as the other books depict. I will probably admit as well as others have that I wasn't a huge fan of the Lucas Part 1, Cole Part 2, and finally Ren Part 3. I think the problem most have been disappointed about is this became about an unknown Lucas, a known Cole and his love Ren which there is a twist. BUT the description clearly makes Ren's dominant almost anonymous really like he didn't matter when in fact he is crucial. What Maya did...hmmm. I'm still weighing on if this was a good or bad outcome. I absolutely LOVED Cole. I've read most thought he was mean and a jerk...oh my god he was like what Damon and Micah were to me. He got under my skin, but the best part? He could step out of his Dom role pamper and somehow almost seem normal considering the nature of the relationship he has with Ren. I felt Lucas was cold and calculating with just glimmers, tiny sparks of something in the beginning. He just didn't grab my attention as much. SHOOT Connor stole my heart EVEN Kane did too before I even felt any sort of omigod feelings about Lucas. I could probably throw out that Mike from the boat had more appeal to me. I don't know why. Did I find Lucas charming later? I guess, but in a roundabout way he was worse than Cole was. I loved Cole's back story. Some think it was lame and made him a hypocrite because he stayed in the line of work he was in, but I never saw it that way. Fear traumatized Cole. Ren could tell him until he was blue in the face that he never hurt her, but the fact was Cole couldn't get passed what he did to Ren. The only downside to Cole leaving Ren when they were younger was he could have told her he needed to leave to get passed what he did and figure out how he couldn't hurt her rather in the type of Dominance he needed to learn about than walk away from her. That was my only issue. A different way of leaving her might have made her understand. I think that's why I just couldn't understand the bringing in of Lucas and Ren. Should have just been Ren.

I was conflicted at the end. The simple fact is I can't understand two men Dom's and a fem sub. It was never clear with Micah, Hannah, and David from Sweet Temptation if it was that type of relationship. I got the impression that was a much different situation that Lucas/Ren/Cole. Was it a beautiful ending? Absolutely. Both Dom's put their needs second to Ren's...that was amazing. They reached a compromise to make her happy but still play strong Dom types. It's amazing what I learned about Dom/Sub from this book. I thought I got it from the others, but this book really went in depth about how the Sub seems to hold more power. Yes the Dom wants complete utter obedience, but it's the sub who has more power. Just a bit awed by that. You'd have to have amazing trust to give that over to a Dom.

Still the best series and a HELL of a lot better than Fifty's Shade's of Grey Series. Trust me I loved Christian and Ana...but damn this group of people just reeled you in. You wanted to know more about all of them. I just wish we could have seen more of Cole...that man was the most emotional dom ever and he near broke my heart too. What he did by letting go...I died right along with him. I will repeat though...still not sure how I feel about all three, but I guess to each his own, right? She got to have two men as unconventional as it sounds...but one lucky ass girl!

LOVED loved all of these characters in the Sweet Series but my fave will always be Connor/Lyrics and Micah's/Angelina's story. Fave female Julie without a doubt. Damon is of course in a league of his own LOL.(less)

Hmmmm. OK I REALLY wanted to read Cole's story.
He was so mysterious in the previous books and then I find out he has one!

But.....I don't think Banks gave him his story at all. I felt like it was just written because the fans wanted it - not because the author felt his story needed to be told. And that kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

Supposedly this is Cole's story, and although he had his opportunity alone with Ren to convince her to be with him, the other dom, Lucas, was very much in the plot. I understand where Ms. Banks wanted to take this relationship, but I wanted it to be solely about Cole and Ren, and it just didn't turn out that way. The story was written in three parts: Lucas, Cole, and Ren and each had me enthralled. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, nor could I keep my eyes open long enough into the night. The premise was unique, and I was thoroughly intrigued with each relationship. I just wasn't expecting it to end the way it did.

As I approached the last chapters, I felt Cole really wasn't an equal in the threesome; that Lucas had the advantage, and it was enough to lose the spark for me, despite Ren's desire that it be equal between the doms. Instead, it was in the little things: the way she sought comfort from Lucas first, how she snuggled against his chest first or looked to him first, how he was the only man to completely understand her. It bothered me. In the end, the men had, or rather chose, to share. But I ached for Cole. It was supposed to be his story, doggone it! Instead, he felt like the odd man out.

I certainly can't complain about the raw sexuality here, though. With the exception of one bondage/suspension scene, which I thought was a little cringe worthy, everything was one huge, hot sexual fantasy. Until the very end, I was convinced this book was the newest addition to my keeper shelf, but I'm still on the fence. I guess I could always revisit Damon and Serena to get my fix. 3.5 stars. (less)

I read some reviews of this book that really slammed it. I wonder if we read the same book? Maybe the people who slammed the book didn't have experience with dominant/submissive relationships, or even reading about them. It's a great story about a woman who is strong enough to know she wants to submit, and her choice between her current lover, who is the only person to really understand her since her first lover, her other choice. Pushing the envelope - that's an understatement

If you are beyond daring, if you dont care about society norms, if 'sharing' a woman and dont bat a lash at extremities in the bedroom and out of it. Ignore this review but keep in mind, my rating is based on my feeling after reading this book.

But then he started going against things he said he would never do and some of the love scenes were a little ridiculous to me and made me roll my eyes. Especially the ones on the boat, mostly because of his vehemence against sharing a woman but then he proceeded to numerous times and when he made her open her mouth so his essence could spill out... huh? Gross and demeaning and I'm no wilting flower ;)

When I could see there wasn't going to be a clear-cut winner for Ren's heart and sharing was brought up. I lost interest. That scenario is completely unrelatable, unbelieveble, and ridiculous to me. There is no way that kind of a relationship could exist and end in a happy (and long-term) ever after. I wanted to punch the main characters in the face by the end of the book. The ending was unconvincing, rushed, and void of true emotion. I have to agree with a lot of other reviewers when they said that it was hard to understand why both of these men were so enraptured with Ren... I don't get it.

I really missed the involvement with the main characters of the series and wish we heard more about them and knew if the characters of this book were even involved in their lives. When they all showed up at the last scene, I asked myself why? Ren doesn't even know half of them. Were they were just thrown in there for good measure?

I felt like we still didn't get to know Cole very well and I wasn't happy with his story and the end to this series. I am leaving this series with a bitter taste in my mouth. Also I got so sick of hearing the word "simply". The author overused that word throughout the whole series... and while I'm ranting I might as well mention that I listened to this series on audiobook while I was at work and the way the narrator said "buried" drove me batty. Ugh, that's it, I'm spent.(less)
