I fell in love with Jordan and Katie in the beginning with Fated. Through out the series got just enough info on just knowing they are going to have their own story. Wow loved every moment of it with a sexy Alpha Male Shifter and a sexy kick butt heroine.

Consumed takes place 10 years ahead of the last novel Hunted. I enjoyed how Rebecca has skipped some years especially since now Janie, Zane and Kalin are adults.

Consumed takes place 10 years ahead of the last novel Hunted. I enjoyed how Rebecca has skipped some years especially since now Janie, Zane and Kalin are adults.

In Hunted Rebecca gave just a little bit of info on how Jordan and Katie met. Consumed starts off with the Prologue of the back story of how they met. Loved how it started this way, sweet and a bit sad. Also got to learn how she got her nickname Kitten.

Jordan is a sworn worthy, alpha male hero who has protected and gave Katie a home since she was like 6 years old. He is the Alpha male of his pack of lion shifters but has never let anybody in. He is kind of a loner. Since Katie has grown up he has been having feelings for her, but does not think it is right because he basically helped raised her. Sometimes his actions from his broodiness leaves for some ups and downs with them.

Katie I adore her strong will character and goes after what she wants. What she wants is Jordan and makes it very clear. His life is in danger of a virus and she will do what ever it takes to save him, even make him mate with her. She knows deep in her heart that Jordan has strong feelings for her. She finds ways to get into his heart and makes him realize he needs to love and have people love him. Poor Katie my heart did break a few times because Jordan is a very stubborn hero and sometimes things he said were not what he really wanted. But for Katie to hear it from the one and only person she has loved it hurts.

The chemistry was sweet and hot. The sexual tension was the best. Just enough that I could not wait for them to get together and when they do WOW it is steamy. I enjoyed the journey of their ups and downs and how they can get their HEA. They had some heartbreaking, happy and made me giggle moments. I am happy I did not have to wait for tons of novels before to get to their story. It was just enough books before and teasers to make their story perfect.

As always Rebecca has yummy secondary characters and in Consumed we got to see more of Maggie. Loved her friendship with Katie. Got just enough teasing with Maggie and Terrent to know they will have their own story. Look forward to their novella coming out June 2013. Really wish it was full length, not complaining Rebecca, I will take what ever I can get on them. The teasing amount that was in Consumed they are for sure not done, Maggie was a bad wolf, but for good reasons.

Kane’s book is next in Provoked and curious on how his story will be. He is the quiet of the bunch mostly fighting and in the lab. So far the series just gets better and better.

Consumed is the fourth book in Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors series, but the first one I've read. You don't need to read the previous books to understand what's going on in this one, but I would still recommend it, to learn the background of some of the side characters in this one. I also think it'll help give some context, such as the ongoing war and the virus the Kurjans have created. But this book is still enjoyable without reading the previous ones.

What a fantastic read, I really enjoyed this book. I have been looking forward to Katie and Jordan's book since Fated and I was not disappointed. Katie was strong and she fought to be with Jordan all the way and I liked that about her, compared to the other women in the series, they took their stubborness a bit too far IMO. Book 4 in Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors Series, leaps 10 years. It's not in the future just in the way of PNR, Fantasy and such it's just in the future of the books but still in the here and now.

This was my first book by Rebecca Zanetti and while I did enjoy it I think I made a mistake trying to jump into this series with book four.

I have seen this series around and have had it on my TBR pile for sometime. When I saw this book pop up on NetGalley I just knew I had to give it a try. The premise seemed intriguing and I love the cover, but all of that can get you only so far. Once I got into the heart of the book I found myself feeling a bit overwhelmed and a tad lost. There is just so much going on and so many different characters and stories being thrown at us that at times I had to just stop for a moment to let it all sink in. From the first page to the last, Consumed takes you on a thrill ride and it never slows down. So if you are new to the series, like myself it becomes a bit hard to follow along.

For the last ten years Jordan Pride has been doing everything in his power to keep his people safe from the deadly virus that turns shifters into werewolves. When Jordan himself is infected he knows there is nothing that can be done to reverse his outcome.

Ten years ago Katie Smith was infected with a virus that has rendered her unable to shift into her mountain lion form. As a result she trained and is now part of an elite force that is tasked with taking down werewolves. She is one of the best in her class and she doesn't take anyone's crap. She is ruthless and focused on her mission, to kill all werewolves. All that changes when the only man she's ever loved becomes infected. Now Katie will do everything she can to help Jordan. She refuses to believe there is nothing they can do because she refuses to live without Jordan.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Jordan and Katie. Both have been harboring feelings for the other for a long time and I always enjoy when those types of feelings come to head. Jordan has spent the last ten years trying to forget Katie and the feeling he has for her. She is the only woman he's ever loved and now that he may potentially turn into a werewolf he regrets never making a move. Now more than ever he tries to keep himself in check because it would be wrong to let her get close just to watch him die.

Katie is bound and determined to do anything and everything to save Jordan. She refuses to give up and roll over. She loves him and that's all that matters. Together they will find a cure and they will get their happy ending.

I really enjoyed this story, but as I stated before it was a bit overwhelming at times. There is just so much going on that I found it hard to keep up at times. Don't get me wrong, I still really liked it and I do plan on going back and reading the other books. I love the world the author has created and I loved getting to know all of the characters. I just think that things going on with the war that is occurring it would be better if the reader start from the beginning.

I have to admit that it took me a while to get into the story, I just wasn’t that interested in the werewolf disease and the “bad guys” the Kurjans are not my favorite of enemies. The whole plot of “good” vampires versus “bad” vampires (Although technically they aren’t vampires) having been done on more than one occasion. Once I got into the story, it had me fully invested. I enjoyed watching the tension build between Jordan and Katie, until the exploding mark and when the tension became reaction and the attraction that Jordan had been holding back could no longer be denied. Once things got to that level everything seemed to start heat up not just with Jordan and Katie but with the storyline, things started to get a whole lot more interesting.

I liked Katie and Jordan ok. Katie is fierce and loyal, despite her serious handicap with the werewolf disease that has been plaguing her for the last 10 years she kicks some major butt. She also refuses to give up on her man, even when he has all but given up on himself. Jordan has been carrying the burden of keeping his people safe for the last 10 years, alone and he’s tired. He’s always put his people first and now he finally has the one thing he has wanted most, Katie, within his grasp and it appears fate has other plans in mind for him when he contracts the werewolf disease and has less than a week to be himself, before he turns werewolf. Jordan seems to give up pretty easily, I think if hadn’t had Katie riding him, he probably would have pulled the trigger himself. In the end he ends up finding the strength he needed to pull through.

For me it’s the side characters that really filled out this book, I don’t think I would have liked it as much without them. Janie is the one that intrigued me the most, at 16 she is still young but wise beyond her years as someone that has visions. She dream shares with Zane, who used to be her childhood friend through dreams, but as she grew older he started blocking her. This is a story I can’t wait for, but I think it will probably be the last of the series so there will be quite a wait. I find myself intrigued with this story. I also found myself liking Kane, he is “the smartest person in the world”, and has no time for love. He has a mysterious power that is hinted at but not revealed, which makes him all that more intriguing. Then there is Jordan’s first in command, his successor, with a lost love, that no one knew about. He is the strong silent type. There are just so many supporting cast that I find interesting. I definitely think I will continue on with the series to see how it all unfolds.

By far my favourite book of the series. I've been really looking forward to Jordan and Katie's book and it did not disappoint at all.

To be honest the last book (conn and moira) I didnt really feel a connection. It lacked what the first and second book had. I'm not really sure why it just didn't click for me. So I was worried I'd feel let down by Consumed. Not the case at all. Absolutely loved it. Even stayed up until 3.20am to finish it.

I really enjoyed this book from the start. I have been waiting for Katie and Jordan to get their own book and I wasn't disappointed!!! I love them together!! As she grew into a woman he became acutely aware that they were meant to be together but his fierce determination to keep her safe over ruled his desires to have her as a mate. Now that he has been infected by the Kurjan disease that is slowly turning him into a werewolf he feels any relationship they may have had is doomed.

While both Katie and Jordan feel the connection they share only Katie is willing to initiate it. I wanted Jordan to be more forward with her then he apparently wanted to be. With only Katie going after him it felt a bit one sided, at least in the beginning of the book. Since this has been a slow burning romance from the beginning of the series, and since so much time has passed between books (10 yrs from book 3 to 4) I think I wanted something a bit more explosive that what was written. It felt a bit anti-climactic. Had Zanetti not set them up so high in the previous books I think I would have felt this was fine…but that bar….it was oh so high.

I did enjoy the addition of Katie’s two friends, Baye and Lance and what they brought to the story. I have always enjoyed the pack camaraderie and the feeling each member shares with each other. It’s like a family unit without actually being related. In fact that whats I enjoy most about the vampires too. Even though most of the vampires in this series are actually brothers, in other books that may not be the case. I also loved the emotions involved with Katie rediscovering her lioness. It felt powerful and I rejoiced with her in her discovery. I also liked how her feelings for Jordan were integral in her finding the power within herself again. That the power to shift was in her mating to the one man she had always needed and turned to. It felt like a circle finally completing a full rotation. And in the end she was left staring at the one man she had started staring at in the beginning. Her own salvation was within Jordan. I just wished I had gotten the same feelings from Jordan.

The passage of time, while justifiable to the story line, can make things a bit hard to follow. The little girl Janie (the key to the end of the war) is becoming a woman and with that knowledge comes a terrible price she’s not sure she is willing to pay. Her innocence has been replaced with a resolution that no matter what the future holds, her place is secure. She, along with one dark and one light warrior, will bring an end to the war. How and at what cost can’t be foreseen. I am hoping against hope that when Janie finally gets her book that I don’t feel like I did about Katie and Jordan. It’s going to be a lot to live up to. Kalin (the Kurjan warrior) is so evil and yet there is still this spark of humanity that seems to emerge when Janie is near. Though Kalin tells himself he is doing it for her role in the coming ending of the war, I have to wonder if he truly cares for her in some way. Maybe even a way he can’t fully understand. Zane seems the likely hero as he has protected Janie from Kalin in her dreams for so long though he is reluctant to come forth in her waking life. I am so looking forward to when they meet in real life…it will be epic.

Things have changed everywhere since book 3, the world is different, the Kurjans are stronger and the end is nearing. The characters from past books all make appearances and the foreshadowing for future books is enough to drawl the reader back. While I wasn’t completely on board with Katie and Jordan’s relationship the book is a definite read for the incredible world building alone! Zanetti can weave a world and entice readers like no other! Lovers of the Dark Protector series will undoubtedly share my opinion

This book is only available (at least for now) in ebook. Which seems weird that a publishing house would do that in the middle of the series. The first 3 full books are available in both ebook and print. There is one novella that is ebook as well. I’m not sure what further books in the series will be available in yet.

I love when I can jump into the middle of a series and not have to worry about figuring out what is going on.. Jumping into CONSUMED (the fourth book in the Dark Protectors series) eases you into the middle of a massive war with a huge cast of compelling characters.

Oh I really like this series! I started on it as a group read of Fated and was totally hooked.
I loved that we jumped ahead 10 years giving us a grown up Janie, who of course is my favorite character, I can't wait to see what is going to happen with her.
Jordan and Katie's story was great, I loved all the rough shifter sex! RZ, you had me at the biting! LOL!
The war has jumped ahead too and loses are big, this story did have a great conclusion for one of main problems and I was happy for that.

This is the first book in this series I’ve read and to be honest I should have read the others first before attempting this one. Plot wise for this book I was ok, I mostly knew what was happening. It was the mythology and the history that I struggled to understand. Eventually it was fine but it took me a while to get used to what was going on and that distracted me quite a bit.

Just found this author and series. I bought all four books and Max's story as well and read them in two days. Yes, my eyes are bleeding.
However, I truly have loved this series. I have never been a fan of vampire/fantasy books but I must say this body of work has throughly entertained and captured me for the last 48 hours. I honestly can't wait for the next book.
Each work stands alone or can be read out of order but I'm glad I was able to start at the beginning.

This book was freakin' incredible!!! So many "Oh my God!" moments.

As we begin Consumed we jump 10 years into the future after Hunted. Katie is stilling dealing with the effects of the virus, but she has learned that she is good at hunting the werewolves that are created by the virus. Katie has finally settled into her life, but the one thing she is missing is Jordan. She has no illusions that Jordan will never be hers, he still sees her as a little kid. The fourth book in the Dark Protector’s series, is a great read. Fast, fun, and full of adventure. Definitely stands on its own, I never once felt lost or left out. The protagonists are lovable, and the bad guys are complicated. I will be going back to read the previous three books in the series, and I can’t wait to read future installments. This episode for the series charts the life and times of Katie after Jordan entered her life, spans thirty years in the past and ten years ahead of book two. The accelerant didn't cure or kill Katie nor did it do anything to reduce her love for Jordan Pride, leader of the felines - but it did leave her with the unique gift of tracking infected werewolves.

Why didn't anybody tell me about this series? Seriously. This was a really good paranormal romance. And it would have been undoubtedly even better if I had read the three books that came before it.

Katie is a cougar shapeshifter who has been in love with Jordan all of her life. But her pack-leader always treated her like the little girl she was when they first met. She left the pride 10 years ago, to help hunt shifters who had become infected with a virus that mutated them into beastly werewolves. Katie, herself, was hit by the virus, but for women, the result is an inability to shift.

Jordan always knew about Katie's girlhood crush on him. It was part of the reason he let her go all those years ago... to see if the feelings would stand up over time and the distance. He thought there was plenty of time to see what would happen between them. He never counted on being infected with the werewolf gene himself. Now he has only days to get his affairs in order before he descends into madness. Part of that means getting Katie back to the safety of the keep.

Of course, once Katie and Jordan are back in each other's orbit, there is no denying they are supposed to be together. The sexual tension is off the charts. The two of them want each other so much, but Jordan considers himself too damaged for Katie now. Sex could be dangerous and mating is completely out of the question. Katie wants Jordan any way she can have him. And what if mating could help him? So they're in this tug of war, but at the center is real love --and a whole lotta lust. Once we do get to the sex, it's really, really good. Primal and hot at times, gentle and loving in others. Everything I wanted.

There's much more to the story. A werewolf targeting Katie. A war among supernatural species. A wealth of secondary characters, some carrying over stories from previous books, while others are laying foundations for books to come. It's rich and fast paced. My only issue was that it was a lot to take in as a new reader, especially the history of the war and the virus. But I did get a good grip on it over time and it was worth the effort. If anything, it makes me want to go read the series backlist. I will definitely be reading the future books. I hope Katie's feisty friend Maggie gets her story next!
