Black Loon Lake
by
S.L. Coelho (Goodreads Author)
An isolated lake where the mournful loon calls home,
a place you should not wander off on your own.
In the back country where wilderness always comes first,
there are dangers ever anxious to quiet the thirst.
What happens to some is a mystery to most,
but the wild forever will play the host. ©S.L. Coelho

My Review - Black Loon Lake
a Novella
SL Coelho's debut fiction promises to be a resounding success. All the elements readers of horror stories and thrillers expect are brilliantly executed within the pages of this compelling story.
Ms. Coelho features a likeable protagonist, a girlfriend and co-worker. They work together as tree planters and share a tent in the wilderness area of the Cariboo-Chilcotin region of Central British Columbia. Throw in the escape of a convicted sex offender, a host of da...more

I thoroughly enjoyed S. Coelho's novella Black Loon Lake. Black Loon Lake is a well-written, page-turning thriller that frankly, I couldnt put down! S. Coelho captures your interest from the very beginning. You're pulled right into the action and feel the characters fear and tension as they traverse through a very cleverly crafted and intriguing plot. There is never any down time in Black Loon Lake; you are constantly engaged, wanting to know what's going to happen. This book will ke...more
"Black Loon Lake" by S.L. Coelho has done an excellent job of curing me of any desire to ever again go camping! The story is frightening because of the utter helplessness of the victims to defend themselves, both in the book and in real life. The story begins with a young couple returning to their campsite after a day of fishing, only to discover it torn up and both their dogs missing. One dog's collar is still attached to its tether, while the other tether just has a bit of blood and hair on it...more
Tense, layered and engaging - well worth a read.
In this, her debut work for adults, writer S.L. Coelho weaves a rich tapestry of impending threat, action, claustrophobic interpersonal drama, and expansive setting into a highly engaging read.
Everything starts out innocently enough with the main protagonist, Mike, his girlfriend and friend, out planting trees for cash around Black Loon Lake. S.L. Coelho effectively builds the tension in classic disaster movie fashion, letting the reader in on info...more

Popular fiction author S.L. Coelho, enjoys thrilling readers and scaring them 'just a little'. She grew up in southern Manitoba entertaining her younger siblings with tall tales. Spurred on by English teachers, these tales grew into written works, which usually found a home in her high school locker. She continued to write stories, and keep journals of ideas, and inspiration.
