A VERY SOUTHERN AFFAIR is a delicious romp through the blistering south, where everything that can go wrong does, and with delightful comical style! Elaina Lee's tale of southern dignity gone awry is a laugh-out-loud encounter with some of the most endearing, amusing characters you'll ever read.

Hollee Rutherford, wedding planner and Official Liaison of the City of Belleville, Alabama, has an important task—to save her dying town by making sure Kaiden Thorne’s employer builds a resort there. But when the Yankee from Pennsylvania comes to her small southern town, obstacles (natural and man-made) make it difficult for her to achieve that goal. Hostile townspeople, fleas, zoning that doesn’t allow the sale of liquor, cockroaches as big as mice, the hot and humid August weather—all could ca...more
First off I think the cover is so cute and the story as well. I was cracking up with all the creative things that happened to Kaiden. I also was laughing at some of the things Hollee does. Like the vintage dress and the bridesmaids dress. I can still imagine Kaiden's face when he rolls into this small town in Alabama and finds an interesting welcome from the town he will probably never forget. You will just have to read the story to find out. I thought the end was the best. I always love a story...more

Hollee Rutherford is the town liaison for the small southern town of Belleville and is supposed to welcome northerner, Kaiden Thorne whose company is considering building a resort there. Problem is, while Hollee is supposed to make him feel welcome, the locals are hostile as they don’t want their turf invaded by big business. And the locals will do about anything to drive him off, including staffing his motel room with fleas (yikes!).
Soon, Hollee finds herself falling for Kaiden and to say Holle...more

Okay, this one has me a little torn. I loved the town and I wanted more of it! I want to read Estelle and Devan's book, so if Lee could get on that, that would be great. At the same time, some of them were annoying. I needed to know more so that I loved the town as much as Hollee did. It needed to be a little longer and a little more flushed out.
Also, whenever one character interrupts another, it annoyed the crap out of me simply because of the format. It would look like this:
"I want"
"Don't tell...more

I have to be honest and say I was the editor for this book. But the credit ALL goes to Elaina and the magnificent stories she creates. As an editor, it's hard to enjoy stories anymore without wanting to edit them, but this one I had to keep reminding myself to EDIT because the story kept pulling me in. I highly recommend all of Elaina's books!
