The Sand Bar
by
Rebecca Bryan (Goodreads Author)
Based around the Twenty-fourth of July celebration that takes place every year in the author's real hometown, The Sand Bar is a women's Fiction novel that is a little bit "Hope Floats " with a dash of "It's a Wonderful Life." With her marriage annulled and her emotions in tatters, Marlo returns to her hometown of St. Anthony, Idaho, to care for her sick father and get back...more

Twenty-six year old Marlo Leavitt comes home to St. Anthony, Idaho after her four year marriage has failed, to help care for her father who is recuperating from a quadruple bypass surgery. She left her hometown eight years ago to attend Stanford, and to seek a better life in San Francisco, California. She had what she thought was a great life with her wealthy husband, until she found him in their bed with her tennis partner. Now with her life turned upside down, she feels like she doesn't belong...more
I received a review copy from Ms. Bryan in exchange for my honest review.
The Sand Bar is not your typical time traveling book. Instead of going back in time, Marlo gets a glimpse of what her future could be like...twice. The first time she freaks out and demands to go back, until she finds out she can look ahead another time.
She should have stuck with glimpse number one in my opinion, but, had she done that, she never would have learned the lessons that virtually slapped her in the face time a...more

I was first intrigued by this story when I read the summary. Most time traveling books send you back to the past. The Sand Bar thrusts you into what could be Marlo’s future. I love that idea since it’s so rarely done in the books that I’ve read. Who wouldn’t want a glimpse at their future?

Bryan's beautifully detailed description of a small town with some magically unique elements doesn't prepare you for the twist that is about to be pulled, turning this lovely romantic story into a an unexpected tale of what if...? The mystery leaves you turning pages quickly to find out if the man she once thought she loved is a killer and if the man she could love will be there for her when its all over. Everything is written so beautifully you can picture it all happening as if you were right...more
This time travel romance was a refreshing read. I loved the detail that the author put into the scenes. There were several times while reading that I actually felt the breeze on my face and smelled the smells from the gatherings. With just a glimpse into each of her possible futures, the main character must decide which way she thinks she will be the happiest. I really loved this story and can't wait to see what the author comes out with next! I recommend this book to all who love a great time...more
The Sand Bar was a wonderful read! Everyone has those "could have, should have" moments in time and The Sand Bar was an excellent example. The descriptions of the town and situations were wonderfully written and detailed. The story was interesting and unpredictable. I can easily see the Sand Bar become a movie.

Emotionally-satisfying alternate-realities tale with a romantic bent. I look forward to finding out what this debut author is doing next!
