Alex was just twelve years old when she learned monsters are real. Now, nearly ten years later, she and her team of fighters are locked in a secret war with Odin, the ancient faction of wealthy elites genetically engineering these monsters – the Chimeras. But Alex never knew why Chimeras were created, until she meets Zeke. He is Odin's true target, him and his kind. They a...more

I loved the story line that Fowle created here. I must admit that hte language was confusing as I felt that there were verb tense disagreements, or words used in ways I would not have utilized. I may have an earlier draft version but the story is strong and enjoyable.

I thought it was an interesting concept let down by woeful execution. There were certainly some "wow" moments but they were far outnumbered by the "what?" moments?

It's difficult to be specific, partly because there are so many possible examples, partly to avoid spoiling what is after all a good story. However, the confusing overloading of "they" and "their" in the first segment was an early indicator: it was very difficult to tell when it referred to a team of people or an individual of unreveal...more

We read a lot of fantasy books which mention battles and wars and much more. Unfortunately, down the line the focus rests on the love story of the protagonist and the numerous options she has. I was pleasantly surprised to not be reading another fantasy on the same lines.

Alex and Zeke know that if they have to take the Odin down, it has to be together. But is it possible for The First and humans to work together? The First possess the strength and the speed, while the humans have access to infor...more

Alex and Zeke have a mutual enemy, but they cannot fight together.

Why? Alex is human, and Zeke is a creature of the night. His kind despise the term 'vampire' and they call themselves the First. They are untrusting of humans, and humans have a tendency to fear what they are unfamiliar with. However, Alex does not fear Zeke. After all, he saved her life at the beginning of the story, and she saved his in return.

Alex' methods of saving his life are unique to his kind, as she offers him her blood t...more

I started this book with a little trepidation. I loved Nora's Sun and knew that this was a different type of story. Plus given the sheer number of books on the market with vampires or vampire like creature I dreaded discovering this would just be more of the same but I have to say I was wrong on both counts. The quality of the writing is every bit as brilliant as Nora's Sun and the plot dynamics of this book had me longing for the nest installment. The First Night By the very talented M.S. Fowle...more

Not a bad start to a little series. This provides a good bit of action and an interesting take on vampires and their predators the Chimera. The novel follows a gang of young adults who have come together on a mission to rid the world of these evil creatures. Each individuals family has been destroyed in one way or another by these creatures and they are out to seek revenge as well as prevent any further harm. It has become a race against production and evolution as the Chimera are being mass pro...more

Great book. I liked the premise and main characters. Not just a sappy romance but there is some nice interest between the main female/male characters. The action was quick and the plot was a fun twist on the genre. Free Kindle ebook download.

M.S. Fowle was born and raised in Maine and continues to live there with her family. She started writing fantasy stories as a child, but was quickly drawn to science fiction and horror after discovering Stephen King. Her work is available on both Amazon and Smashwords.
