This was a really nice and quick romantic-suspense. Nothing heavy or complicated but good if you're between books. I read this in a couple of hours but even though it's short, Tied Of Lies has great character development and a nice little plot. This is a sequel, so it's probably better to read Familiar Light first but it's not absolutely necessary.

I think this author has great potential, I just wish her stories were longer. Still, I'm definitely going to check out other books by Sarah B...more

Wow! One word. Wow.

Never has a book or books in this case left me so utterly speechless, than "Familiar Light" and its follow-up "Tide of Lies" by Sarah Balance. Both absolutely blew me away. Sarah is truly a master of suspenseful writing. I was hooked from the very first page of "Familiar Light" to the very last page of its sequel "Tide of Lies." I found myself white-knuckle gripping my kindle throughout both books. Sarah had me guessing right up to the end of "Familiar Light" and then just wh...more

Tide of Lies is more proof that Sarah Ballance is gathering strength in the romantic suspense world and has turned into a talented force to be reckoned with.

Familiar Light did indeed forge the path for the mystery to this book, but Tide of Lies is also a stand alone novel.

I don't get into plots in my reviews, as the blurbs cover the points. But I will say this story is well crafted with a twist that was not predictable and I---right up until the last minute---swerved back and forth from 'I think...more

Criminal Justice student Julia Cohen has been receiving stalker type notes that appeared to be similar to notes victims of unsolved murders in Barrier Shoals received. Unluckily for Julia, the person responsible for the crimes is watching her and trying to make sure she doesn't make contact with Detective Holden Whitlow.

Holden has hit a dead end when trying to solve the three unresolved murder, which happened shortly after he joined the force. While his partner, tells him to let it go, Holden co...more

The following is my July 24, 2012, 5 Star review:

TIDE OF LIES by SARAH BALLANCE is a follow up of FAMILIAR LIGHT. Tide Of Lies is a stand alone. It's not necessary to read Familiar Light first, but I highly recommend doing just that because I enjoyed Familiar Light as much as I did Tide Of Lies.

Julia Cohen has been getting disturbing notes. Detective Holden Whitlow is a lover from her past and a man she hasn'...more

Detective Holden Whitlow is thrown off his game when his old flame, Julia Cohen, is thrown back into his life. There is more than love lost between them, which makes Julia's new connection to a recently tied-up cold case even more inconvenient.

It's no secret Sarah Ballance is one of my favorite authors. Among other things, she has a way of developing a slow-burning heat among her characters, wrapping potent emotion and tension in every scene. Tide of Lies is at the top of my Sarah Ballance read...more

Tide of Lies is a quick second chance at romance plot with lots of suspense and a serial killer mystery all rolled into one which will allow you to enjoy the escape for a couple of hours. The characters are very well developed for a short book of 100 pages or so and Ms. Ballance’s ability to paint scenes is the best. Holden and Julia have a lot of obstacles from the past to overcome so it keeps you on your toes wondering if they will be able to overcome those obstacles and solve the mystery of t...more

Sarah Ballance's best story to date. Tide of Lies is a serial killer mystery/suspense, second-chances love story you don't want to miss. The plot provides enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and the characters are imperfect human beings with pasts they'll need to overcome if they're going to live happily ever after. But first, they need to make sure they're going to live to see tomorrow! I definitely recommend Tide of Lies to anyone looking for a good Romantic Suspense. As good as - or...more

Tides of Lies is a quick and enjoyable romantic suspense. I only wish it had been a bit longer. I wanted more of Holden and Julia together. Despite that, I felt like I got to know the characters pretty well. THe author did a nice job of giving me enough background on each of them. I was rooting for their HEA. While I did figure out the secret Julia was holding pretty quickly, I wasn't able to figure out the identity of the killer until the end. The motive behind it all was a surprise. I definite...more

When a woman is beaten and left for dead, Holden Whitlow never expected that a cold case he'd work on not too long ago would rise from the ashes. While there are similarities with the current case and the unsolved murders, Holden can't help but wonder if it's the same person who tried to kill his best friend's girlfriend not too long ago. Yet that can't be possible since the culprit supposedly killed himself in order to cover up his crime.

Determined to get to the bottom of things, he comes face...more

Disappointing. Very good writing but story didn't work for me. I never connected with the heroine - it seemed like she didn't get much screen time either. I liked the hero better but he seemed to make so many mistakes, start to finish, in his job that it was hard to respect him.

I started this book the second I finished familiar Light and gobbled it up. Each sentence drew me further in and captivated me until the very end when the last line brought tears to my eyes. It's romantic, it's suspenseful, it's impossible to put down...it is a must read.

Sarah lives a charmed life as the mother of six incredible homeschooled children, all of whom are completely adorable when they're asleep. Her husband of many years (long, long years, he calls them) is the kind of guy who could teach those heroes from the books a thing or two about romance, not that he'd readily admit it. Completely supportive of her love for writing fiction, he's generously offer...more
