I loved this book! I really enjoyed book 1, but this book is so much better. We already are introduced to the world in book 1 and it seems the real story starts in this book. And the story is great, I didn't want to put this book down.

For instance, Heven matures in this follow-up to “Masquerade” as she comes to accept her unique abilities and use them to fight against what’s been unleashed from Hell. I was pleased to see her growth and loved that Heven could take care of herself, but Hebert made sure to keep Heven a compassionate character, one who thinks about others. This book targets YA readers, so if they can relate to Heven (Sam and Cole) who are all young but trying to make a positive difference in the world, then all the better!

Another huge part of this book follows the heavy emotions Heven and Sam must deal with as they constantly become positioned between right and wrong, between letting truth shine or allowing lies to temporarily cover their tracks. The choices we make, good and bad, affect the people in our lives, and the way Hebert showcases this is fantastic. Her characters pay a price for the choices they make, and some of these consequences come handed to them with a supernatural fist, yet again…lessons are gained by the characters and readers.

You’ll have to read “Charade” to meet my favorite new addition to Hebert’s Heven and Hell series, and that would be the Supernal Beings. Believe me—they are as cool as they sound! I’ve known a few people like them, and they are mysterious and seem as though they’ve been sent from above. If fallen angels, young adults with supernatural abilities, the age-old battle between good and evil, plus a marvelous amount of mystery wrapped up in a fantasy novel, sounds good to you, then do check out this wonderful series. I can hardly wait for the next book!

This book takes up right where the first one lets off. Heven has died and been given her life back. Sam has given his life for Heven and been given it back after not being able live without him. I loved this book. I didn't realize it at the time that this was the 2nd book in the series so I read Masquerade first. What a delight both books were. I am looking forward to the third installment. Cambria Hebert hits her full stride in book 2 of her bewilderingly creative Heven and Hell series and you do not want to miss out on the action, oh and the romance, oh and the suspense...

As much as I've loved everything up to this point, this book brings it all together and sets it afire. I'll admit I felt the beginning was a touch slow, but that's not all that unusual for a book so chopped full of suspense. And the suspense is overflowing, let me assure you.

Then there's the romance. **Chill bumps** Cambria Hebert knows how to write love. You know those deep feeling for which you can't seem to find words, yup, she's found those words. Here's some quotes:

Sam (pg 84): "If you cannot breathe, I will breathe for you. If your heart will not beat, mine will beat harder. If you do not live, neither will I."

Heven (pg 103): "I loved this boy. more than myself. More than life. More than anything. Tears leaked from beneath my lids because my feelings were so intense that they had nowhere else to go, there just wasn't room in a single body for how I felt for him."

I loved the balance of action and emotion in this book. Heven continues to grow and I love where she is by the end of book. I really liked this quote from her on pg 111:

Heven (pg 111): "Sam was my strength. Some days it felt like he was the only reason I could put one foot in front of the other. I reminded myself that those feelings were wonderful but I couldn't allow myself to lean on him so heavily. I was stronger than that. Even without Sam, I could get through this. But it was sure nice to have him around."

And speaking of the ending of this book... W O W !!! There's shocking betrayals and crazy plot twists galore. Sure, there's a moment or two of "Ah ha! I knew it!" but there were more "I so didn't see that coming." And then there is the cliff hanger. Of course I won't tell you anything about that. Well, let's just hope the author is furiously typing book 3 now. She needs to. We need her to. I don't know how I'm going to make it. Please type faster, Cambria!!!(less)

Heven’s life may have been saved but it means she now has a very large debt to repay. As the guardian of a list of everyone who will bring good to humanity everyone in Hell will now do anything to get hold of her and the treasure she carries. So loving this series, what a storyline.

How tough is Heven, with everything that is going on, she just rocks it! After being disfigured, falling in love, killed, brought back to life, gaining a brother, I am sure not many people could endure this.

So a trip to Italy, to put the scroll in its rightful place, we all knew it wasn't going to be easy, but with not one but two strong alpha male protectors, things get bad fairly quickly, even Kimber seems to be thawing! if only.

I’m actually pretty sad about this book, and the fact I have to mark it as a DNF. Especially as I was strongly encouraged to read it and was expecting Charade to exceed Masquerade, book 1 in the series. And even once I’d finished, I realised I had absolutely no idea how to write my review because my feelings for the book are just so all over the place. So I figured the only way to express why I stalled out is by sharing snippets from my progress updates that I knocked out as I went through the b...more I’m actually pretty sad about this book, and the fact I have to mark it as a DNF. And even once I’d finished, I realised I had absolutely no idea how to write my review because my feelings for the book are just so all over the place. 9.0% - "Hmm, I'd kinda hoped the pov breaches and tense switches would be a little less prominent in the 2nd book but they almost seem worse. Narration & dialogue's sounding a little unnatural for the character ages with very few contractions anywhere, too. Hope this smooths out; it's a little distracting."
43% - "Seems to be an awful lot of tell over show, and repetitiveness, and pov breaches and tense swtiches still. I'll admit I didn't see the twist with Cole coming, but felt that was underplayed slightly and everyone's reactions were a little too understated to be believable. I'm also beginning to get frustrated with what's going on with Heven, and Logan, and Heven's mum's new fella--coz something definitely is."
44% - "Um, why is Heven surprised Cole dumped Kimber when he'd already made it clear he was considering it b/c he didn't have feelings for her anymore?"
53% - "So they call on Aires at night, and when she returns them to earth, Heven stares up at a blue sky, but when they're back in her room, the sky outside is still dark, and they awaken in the day. This was pretty confusing. Had to go back and read a couple times in case I'd missed something."
58% - "Back with the dream walker, and he throws Heven into a room where it's too dark for her to even see the growly, screeching thing she bumped into, but she knows the dream walker walked through the room and disappeared from sight? And then she hurried to catch up with him in a space where it's too dark too see?"
59% - "Okay, again I'm stalling to reread b/c of confusion. So she followed him to a room with blood red curtains, but then she tells us the Dream Walker opens the curtains & the room lightens so she can see her surroundings (including furniture she couldn't before see). Well, if she couldn't see any of this before the curtains opened, how did she know the curtains were there, or that they were red, or even that they were in a room?"
61% - "Another confusion. :o\ Heven states she goes for a shower instead of going back to sleep. but then in the next sentence it's telling us she slept with invasion and didn't dream at all. then the next sentence states tremors kept her from relaxing and worry of a new power crowded her head. And after a bit more waffle, she's blowing drying her hair. Sorry, but this book is in dire need of a good edit."
62% - "Okay, I'm going to have to step away from this one as I'm getting a little frustrated with it. :o("

I’m actually going to hold back on rating this one I think. Mostly because I have no idea what to rate it. And partly because I didn’t finish so I don’t have an opinion of the book as a whole.

There are two new characters, Gemma, Henry, and Logan, in Charade.
Gemma was briefly mentioned in Masquerade- she was the girl that gave Sam the bracelet. I seriously did not expect her to be that young, because when she was mentioned in Masquerade I thought she was way older lol. I won't say a lot about her, because I don't want to spoil the book :).

Logan was mentioned in the last chapter of Masquerade. I could tell that his presence in Sam and Heven's life was going to bring trouble. His actions throughout the whole story just screamed out that he was definitely bad news, and that there was something evil deep inside of him.

Henry is also a new character and let me just say that I am not a fan at all. I was surprised to find out who he was by the last few chapters, because I was totally not expecting him to be that evil. I knew that he was bad just by his actions throughout the book, but was totally not expecting him to be a demon.

I seriously could not put this book down, because it was just a great read! I loved reading from both Sam's and Heven's point of view, because there are parts within the story that can only be seen through either one of their side. Now, the mystery behind Kimber, Heven's friend, and Logan just kept me reading. There was also the big revelation on why Cole feels a strong Connection with Heven. This totally made my jaw drop to the floor, because I was not expecting this turn in the story.

I would definitely recommend everyone to read this book. If you loved Masquerade then you will love Charade. Plus, the cover is just gorgeous :D!

Heven and Sam thought the worst was over when Sam chased the rest of the Hellhounds out of town but they were wrong. Heven's new task set out for her by a messenger from Heaven sets a whole new path of danger before the two. Add to this Heaven's new abilities, Sam's new charge, Kimber's spiraling jealousy and Cole's confusing interest in Heven and you have a great setup for a second book.

Charade is the second book in the Heven and Hell Series. I loved Masquerade the first book in the series. So many times the second book disappoints me. WOW, Charade didn’t disappoint me at all! It totally blew me away.

I didn’t know where the relationship between Cole and Heven was going…is it a love triangle, or something else? Then, the author revealed the twist. Typically, I see the twist coming in the book and can figure them out before the big reveal. Not in Charade, I was floored by the revelation of Cole and Heven’s relationship.

Charade introduced us to new characters: Gemma and Logan. I’m dying to know more about Gemma, a fallen angel. She is a great addition to the story. She’s tough and obviously has feelings for Cole. I cannot wait to find out more about the reason she lost her wings and was banished from heaven. I look forward to seeing Gemma and Cole’s relationship develop. Now Logan, I had mixed feelings about him. I don’t think he added anything to the story. Yes, he is Sam’s brother and makes attempt after attempt to cause a rift in Sam and Heven’s relationship. I don't think I would have missed his absence from the story.

Now to the cliff hanger….I wanted to scream no, no, no…you can’t do this to them! I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Now, I have to wait until the release of the next book.

I highly recommend this book for young adults and adults.

Pretty cover alert!! I saw that Charade was published, and only then I looked at the cover of it. And I was like; OMG it's Sam. He's pretty! I need this book now! (and more fangirling stuff). So I read it and I loved it even more than I loved Masquerade. And that is one of my favorite books of the first half of 2012! If you haven't read it you should totally check it out, it really deserves more readers and fans!

As soon as you start to read Charade, you are thrown into the story. No long introduction, but just BAM! book 2 starts. And that's amazing. Long introductions are easy for people that haven't read the first book(s) or people who have forgotten about it. I don't belong to either group for this book, so luckily there was no long introduction. Heven and Sam are still in love, and their romance is so cute! But there is the task Sam and Heven have to fulfill that makes it all so difficult. They have a scroll that has to be returned. That doesn't sound as a very hard task, but most definitely is. The whole world is depending on it. If the scroll falls into the wrong hands, life as we know it will end! Demons are haunting Heven and everyone she and Sam like. Life has never been more difficult.

This book kept on surprising me. The plot had some major unexpected twists and turns, and my interest was at its highest level throughout the whole book. All the time I was predicting what would happen, and all the time I was wrong. It might all sound cliché. In the first book they meet, in the second book their love is threathened by an impossible task, but this novel surely is not as cliché as it sounds. Not at all!

Heven is a kick ass heroine! I mean, Katniss like kick ass! She doesn't fight a lot, but at least she wants to, which really impresses me. Most of today's female YA characters are just good girlfriends, always listening to their boyfriends, but Heven is different. She really likes Sam, but also chooses what she wants to do for herself, not only what he wants her to do. And that's what I love about her, that she is so strong.

I give this book 5 stars because it's super original, highly entertaining and full of romance and suspense. Is there anything else a good book needs? Make sure to check it out some time soon!(less)

I am really enjoying this series! I love all the twists and turns that keep popping up. Because I really connected with Heven in the first book, even though this one was in multiple POVs like book 1, so I saw this book through her eyes. It was pretty powerful. I felt her love, her distrust, and her stress. I was also pretty paranoid while reading Charade. I felt like everyone had something to hide. I didn't fully trust a lot of people in the book.

Charade was a really nice sequel, the characters were pretty well developed, I love the dynamic between Cole and Sam – especially now that Gemma has come around. Wow, this is such an awesome series. There are so many twists and turns it made it hard to put down. The connection with Cole totally makes sense now, but the "powers" that Heven gets aren't that cool (Heven agrees with me) but they are what she needs which is cool. I really enjoyed book one, Masqerade, so I've been looking forward to reading Charade, and I have to say it was even better than the first!
Right away, there's a lot of mystery surrounding the book, new characters and strange happenings galore and just as I was starting to think I wanted some answers I was hit with a huge twist that had me gasping so loud on the bus I attracted some strange looks! Masquerade really was a bumpy ride from start to finish and I was hooked all the way through.

LOVE THIS STORYCambria is brilliant charade has all action non stop!.. Sam so in love with Heven andasshe is withhim they have sucha ..tight bond. that no one can break.. I loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait to read the next one. Charade had me hooked as soon as I started reading it. Charade picks up where the first book left off with Heven and Sam trying to return the scroll to its rightful location. Heven has grown to be a character I really love. She has become so much stronger and comfortable in her own skin.

Sam also is dealing with trying to help his brother Logan deal with what he is. Heven also has to deal with Cole and Kimber. Cole is such a loyal caring friend while I found myself not caring for Kimber anymore. She has become such an unloyal friend to Heven. I have to say Hebert knows how to throw in the plot twists and I didn't see the Cole secret coming although it all made sense later.

Heven and Sam meet Gemma and learn more about her and why she wants to help them. I loved Gemma as she was so strong and tough but still vulnerable. I found myself really feeling for her and wanting her to have happiness. I liked the sparing between her and Cole and would have loved to see more of them. Heven starts having nightmares and learns something truly sinister needs her to unlock the scroll. Sam decides they have to find a way to keep him out of Heven's mind.

Then it's finally time for the school trip that will give them the chance to put the scroll back. The group runs into some demons and obstacles along the way and some unforeseen issues arise. Heven and Sam both learn just how powerful they both are and that they can face anything. I have to say I was in tears by the end of this book due to the amazing cliffhanger. Will Heven and Sam complete their quest? Will they make it home safely? You will have to read this amazing book yourself to find out.

Overall Hebert delivered another amazing hit. I think I loved this book more than the first one. It had romance,heart stopping action and was just an all around great read. I loved seeing Heven and Sam get closer and fall even more in love. Hebert did a great job with excellent writing that flowed well and well developed characters. I highly recommend this book as a must read.
