If you ever need to make an argument that men in romance novels are sex-crazy, you can use this as fodder.

Here's Cullen, local vampire (Let's be mature and not snicker too much): He just died, came back to life, lost his soul, got kidnapped by his family, ran away from home, killed a truckload of criminals, walked the distance of a coupla' states, and lost all of his vocabulary except 'Mine', and what does he want to do?

He wants to have sex.

Eh, why the fuck not?
Since, you know, I already know it's going to be bad/ridiculous (even for Amber Kell) walking in...

I actually quite like the cover. The concept is interesting and actually pretty well worked.

This story makes me wonder if I should create a "consummate pulp" shelf because this is one of those I need to judge/rate on a different scale than I would, say, Signal to Noise or Captive Prince or Rema

Bartholomew Dallen lost his lover, Cullen (*grin*) three months before when Cullen died after an accident on construction site. But when Bart saw a man who looked exactly like Cullen, he couldn't help to follow the man. It turned out that the man WAS Cullen ... but Bart got more surprise than finding out his lover was still alive. Cullen was not a true human. Cullen was a vampire ... and apparently, Bart hold Cullen's soul and Bart was the only one who could bring back his lover to full human.

It has been my experience that, unfortunately, if you've read one paranormal you have read them all--they are frighteningly similar.

All similar until, that is, this little sip of a story, Protecting His Soul by Amber Kell. Bart's loving partner, Cullen is lost in a freak construction site accident. Yet Bart swears that he has seen glimpses of someone who resembles his dead lover. One day, while minding his own business at a coffee shop, his dead lover walks right past him. Determined to follow t

Bart thinks he is seeing things when he thinks he is seeing his dead lover. He follows him to find out that his lover wan never who (or shall I say what he thought he was.)
This is a very unique take on a vampire story. Lots of twists and turns. It is also a very good love story and the sex when is hot. If you’re looking for a good short romantic vampire story give this a shot. My only complaint is that it was too short. I’d love more. What would you go through to save your dead lovers soul?

I've been looking forward to reading this story ever since Amber Kell posted little sneak peeks/teasers on her blog. The story features vampires and how these vampires aren't like the normal ones we see in other stories. I also liked how Amber injected some humor into the story via Bart.
