November 1956. The world is in turmoil. While the Suez Crisis and the Hungarian Uprising boil away in the background, Lennox has more immediate concerns, like getting his personal life, and his business, back on track. So, when a woman comes into Lennox's office and hires him to follow her husband, whom she suspects of leading a double life, it seems the perfect case. Stra...more

Having thought that `The Deep Dark Sleep' was more dark in tone than the previous two `Dead Men and Broken Hearts' has gazumped it as Lennox finds himself in the throes of an almost existential crisis. With his personal relationships causing him no end of angst and a seemingly straightfoward case of marital infidelity devolving into an infinitely more complicated caper, Lennox really begins to question his place and occupation on the mean streets of Glasgow. As he tussles with a shadowy world of...more

The fourth outing for Craig Russell’s Lennox, his PI series set in Glasgow in the 50’s. Tensions relating to both Suez and the Hungarian uprising are the background here and Lennox, trying to go straight, picks up a couple of cases that may, or may not be related. Certainly the Hungarian element is causing him no end of trouble. Eventually Lennox finds himself in too deep and with just about everybody after him, may have to take drastic measures to come out of this one alive.

I really enjoy this...more

A darkly delicious romp through the gritty underworld of crime…

As I plunged into a disturbingly magnetic tale I was struck by the acutely atmospheric ambience, capturing perfectly murky 1950’s Glasgow in all its harshness and hostility. By brilliantly blending street gangsters with irony and dry, sardonic humor Craig Russell creates a refreshingly original ‘take’ that transforms classic, contemporary crime fiction. Just as sleuth Lennox falls prey to a deviously clever trap, so did I loose mysel...more

A very good addition to a great series. Whilst this is the 4th novel to feature Lennox it can be read as a standalone story (in fact I read books 2 & 3 before book 1). Features all the elements that you come to expect from Craig Russell - great plot and characters well portrayed, evocative of the Glasgow in 50's, overt and implied violence, snappy dialogue etc etc highly recommended.

An excellent installment in a brilliant series.
Gordon Mackenzie
Excellent. Just as good as previous ones. Looking forward to the next one.
