loved it!!! I am so glad that the book is a bit longer.
I loved that Silver and Logan got closer.

Logan *sigh* was amazing in this book. The way that he puts himself out there for Silver....sigh.

We learn more about Justus, which I like (spoiler!! : maybe Justus and Page can get together?? I'd LOVE to see that)

It was a little off-putting for me cause I was tired of all the testosterone around Silver.

I highly recommend this series. Loved 'Impulse', the 3rd book in this series which just gets better and better. Dannika Dark does such a great job with character development. She's created an interesting believable world and characters that you want to hang out with, and learn more and more about.

There's a fairly large cast of characters, all interesting. Aside from the 4-5 lead characters, some of the secondary characters have pretty significant roles too. All handled so well, you can picture...more I highly recommend this series. Loved 'Impulse', the 3rd book in this series which just gets better and better. Dannika Dark does such a great job with character development. She's created an interesting believable world and characters that you want to hang out with, and learn more and more about.

There's a fairly large cast of characters, all interesting. Aside from the 4-5 lead characters, some of the secondary characters have pretty significant roles too. All handled so well, you can picture each person - there's no confusion about who is who. The story is based around Silver, a newly made Mage and those that teach and support her and have become her family. She's definitely surrounded by some very hot and hunky 'men'. They're part of the Breed, which is made up of various supernaturals, from Mage to Vampires, Chita (Logan, whew!), Sensors, Shifters....all living in the same world as humans, but hiding their uniqueness and living with their own laws and enforcers.

There's a continuing storyline so books need to be read in order. There is great evil among them, affecting/threatening Silver and her close knit group of friends and mentors. So there is mystery, intrigue, action, humor and romance.

The dialogue is handled seamlessly and the humor and banter flows naturally. There are laugh out loud moments (Simon is frequently involved!) and tender moments, from many. Plus the the relationship and passion building between Silver and Logan makes me want the next book. Right. Now! It's nice too that there are other relationships developing or possibly on the horizon, that don't take away from Silver & Logan's romance.

And let me just say, Silver has a lot of willpower! She tries to work through her feelings, as Logan sets his sights on her, and yes! Proclaims it to all! SOLD!! I'm buyin' what he's sellin'!!
Logan is determine to prove he's a man of worth, despite and maybe because of his past, and that he is her true mate. Which makes things interesting since the Mage & Chita are typically enemies. It's all so good!

In this installment we're introduced to a couple of new characters, Christian & Page, that I hope to see more of, especially the Vampire guard, Christian. His dry, grumpy, get over yourself humor is a nice addition. Between he, Simon & Levi, we're sure to have laughs and outrageousness.

What a glorious read! Sterling and Twist were so great. But in my opinion, Impulse blew them out of the water! The characters are changing and growing. It was great to be able to get a little more background one character in particular. I laughed, I cried, my heart broke, my heart soared! I didn't think I could love the characters in this book more than I already did, but I find myself loving them even more. Dannika Dark hit a serious home run with this book! "Impulse" by Dannika Dark is the third book in the Mageri Series. It's a very emotional read with lots of romance, mystery and action.
In this installment a lot of things happen and we learn so much information. We learn more about the characters, their history and how that made them who they are. We also get more information about Silver's parents and what makes Silver so special. Also we learn a lot about the "Chitah" culture.

I LOVE this book. I have read it twice since it came out. Not because it was confusing, but just because I was sad that it was over and wanted to savor it. If you have not read the other books in this series, it will probably be very confusing at first. The solution to that is simple, head on over and grab yourself Sterling. Be prepared, you will want to read all three all in a row.

Now onto here are a few of the things I love about this book:

Now onto here are a few of the things I love about this book:
*Really it all comes down to the characters. I love them or hate them or wish I could know them. I get mad at them, want to hug them, cry for them, and sometimes want to smack them upside the head. Frankly, it is quite freaky how real they are to me. Dannika gets an A plus for creating these amazing characters.
*Relationships: The relational dynamics explored in this story are so multidimensional and authentic. I know the fan fave is the love relationship between Silver and Logan, but there are so many more. You have the brotherly relationships between Logan and both his brother and his "adopted" brother (sorry trying to stay unspoilery). You have the friendship relationships between so many characters. You have the father/daughter type relationship strengthening between Justus and Silver. There are so many and they have multiple levels. I think this probably goes back to her creation of "real" characters.
*Love, Love, Love the lore and the world she has created. It keeps expanding and growing with each book.
*I could not put this book down. I seriously counted down the days until it was ready and then devoured it.
*I had so many theories about what was going to happen in this book and pretty much all of them were wrong. Dannika does not go with the obvious, or the formula I read over and over again. She is full of so many surprises. I wish I could share my biggest surprises with you, but they would so ruin the story.
* Simon's Humor.
I am getting dangerously sharing to much so I will stop here. My review in a nutshell: If you have read the previous books, this one will not disappoint and will most likely surprise you at least a few times, so run out and get it! If you have not read this series, run out and get Sterling and make a go. FYI Sterling was recently reedited to make it even more awesome This book is for an 18 plus reader.(less)

Well I have read all three books of The Mageri series consecutively in the past week. I cannot tell you a single even that has happened in that time, because every second of my time was spent totally enraptured by these characters and this truly amazing storyline. Silver has a knack for trouble, and it will find her even when she is not looking. Over the past three novels I felt as though she alternates between victim and instigator. Silver has a knack for trouble, and it will find her even when she is not looking. Over the past three novels I felt as though she alternates between victim and instigator. Although, regardless of her risk taking I absolutely love her character; I just may want to choke her when I foresee the errors in her judgment. If you have read my previous review for book two I reluctantly expressed my bias nature toward Justus and Logan. Darn it, if that Chita is not weaseling his way into my heart! Now I am in a constant struggle with myself, but I still feel the deep seeded loyalty toward Justus. Only now love Logan as well. What is a girl to do? Gotta love me some intense love triangles!!! Even if one of them is a complete "touch me not". With each book the story is twisting farther and farther from the original story base, but it is still carrying its action packed intensity and the most riveting story. As the complications grow, so is the massive cast and it intrigues me more and more with each new addition. Uniquely, I love so many characters with such devotion in one book that I wonder at times how it is even possible. I absolutely love how each character has a deep attachment to Silver, and each one has a devotion and loyal nature that is wonderful. Even when it appears that Silver will find a character that she is at odds with the relationship will end up transforming into one of respect. In the end there is not one character that is a mystery, and each carries a significant position in what I like to call her family. The developments of the last two pages of this book have me hanging on the edge, and I am desperate to see what it means for the future of this story. Unlike past novels, this individual book carries a lot of sorrow. It was not the happier note of justification in the end like I had come to expect, but rather the acknowledgement that like is not always peaches and cream so hold on to what you have. There is still a ways to go for this story, and the only problem is waiting for them to be written.

Dannika Dark hit it out of the park with this third installment of the Mageri series. The plot is continuing to flow and moving in new and totally surprising directions; ones that were not readily apparent and so came as wonderful surprises.

I loved books one and two of this series but in this case the third was not the charm! There were far too many hot/cold moments relating to Silvers feelings towards Logan and frankly I grew very weary over them. Anticipation is a glorious thing until it crosses a line into ridiculous! This play of hot/cold crossed that line near the beginning of Impulse and went so far past it that **spoiler alert** when the two did finally hook up – it didn’t really mean much. In fact Silver still didn’t seem to be ‘all in.’ So it was more than slightly disappointing.

I found myself thinking that if she could resist him that long after he did all of that.. then he really wasn’t the one for her. And now I’m still wondering if that might not be true or not. The relationship seems too one sided for Logan and leaves a sour taste.

Another glaringly obvious once you read Impulse issue is that Silver has lost her intelligence. How many times do you need to go out ALONE into the real world only to find yourself facing danger with an enemy? Um.. well with her it appears that EVERY time she goes out this happens.. and yet it's always a surprise? And she isn't prepared? And she’s not concerned at all to go out? hmm.. even an animal learns after a few times!!!

Speaking of animal – must we have even ONE MORE SCENE where Logan goes nuts about someone trying to protect Silver? ARGGG!

But let’s not lose sight of the intelligence factor. Silver NEVER learns! Silver will put herself and those she cares about in danger at the flip of a coin and not even realize or care that she is doing it! It’s like a mindless Zombie! It’s so EASY for these villains to catch her that I’m finding it pointless to read this any longer because I know in the next villain match up she will get caught and saved again and again! Imagine a hamster inside an exercise wheel.. the hamster keeps running and the wheels keep turning but neither are actually going anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will add one last item. This author needs to pick her writing style and stick to it. She will write most of the book from Silvers POV but out of the blue throw in someone else’s POV. A character who has been in three books all of a sudden shows as one small area in one chapter their POV? Don’t get me wrong, I’m interested in some of the other characters and their POV’s but let’s do this if we’re going to do it! Otherwise DON’T! It’s not fulfilling as a reader to read one snippet never to return again! It’s hard to become invested when the train derails once or twice in a book! Let’s be consistent!

Can you tell I’m frustrated by now? I’ve spent three books reading for THIS?! In all honesty if I had started with this book I would not suggest this series or read more. However, since I really enjoyed the first two I will hold off on deciding whether I’ll read book four for the descriptions to be revealed. I’m rooting for Justus to find someone.. hopefully he’ll do that in book four.

So much to talk about. But I can't because I don't want to spoil this series. After two weeks you should have at least picked up Sterling by now. Seriously, such a good series. It's got all the right elements that make a great PNR. In Impulse we learn more about the depth of each character and the pain that they all hide within themselves.
I found Justus's growth as a character the most rewarding. I'll admit. I couldn't stand Justus in Sterling, and I wasn't too fond of him in Twist. But in Impulse I think I finally get him.

"'I love you, Ghuardian, I love you.' When he started to back away, my hands gripped his shoulders. 'You're all the family I've got. You feed me, care for me, teach me, protect me, and put up with me. That's love--more than my own mother ever offered. You don't have to say it back.'My voice cracked. 'What can I do to take away your pain away?'
......he dropped his head against my shoulder and his body sagged. 'Don't speak of my charm. The jokes--they sting.'"

Ok. I know that is a long quote but it just wraps up perfectly how these characters have grown up and grown on my throughout this series.
All of our other favorite men are in this book and they all deal with their own personal issues and battles. Justus's just struck a chord with me.
Silver's relationship with her mother is finally brought to a head and it's heartbreaking. I've suffered through a strained relationship with my own mother in the past. I sobbed. Nothing hurts more than thinking that your own mother doesn't love you.
Dark can write human emotion even when her characters are not human. That is why I love her work and I think that is why so many others are in love with it too. Of course the steamy hot men don't hurt either. ;)

Dannika Dark has done it yet again. Impulse continues to bring its readers deeper into Silver’s story. The third book in the series shows just how much trouble the heroine can get into, both of her own devices and circumstances she can’t avoid. Well Dannika has done it again. Impulse was amazing. So much went on. Action, suspense, romance, etc. It was heart-warming and fast paced at the same time. I really loved it.

Silver is growing into her own powers as a Mage. We find out some few surprises and shocking revelations.

Setting / World Building

Impulse has us back in Cognito, the city where the supernatural all like to live and play. We go back to a few other haunts from the past books and leave the city once but the book predominantly stays set in Cognito. Because this series is still an UF, there isn’t much difference between our current world and the book’s world. Except for maybe those pesky Breed…

Characters

Holy bad guys!!! I thought Silver had bad guys out for her before. We meet a big nasty from Logan’s past that has it out for Silver. But lucky for her, we meet another new boy in her “harem” of men because this one is assigned to guard her. You just know with Silver’s personality that they get along like oil and water. But I really like this new guy’s take on Silver’s life and he has no problem telling Silver “how it is”.

Speaking of Silver’s “harem” of men. One of the things that had me a little worried in the first book was the amount of men in Silver’s life and the fact that you knew one of them had to be her love interest. Now that we’re at the third book and still adding men, you’d think I would still be worried that Silver’s love life is going to be a big ‘ole mess. Nope! Thank you, Ms. Dark!!! I absolutely LOVE Silver’s relationship that she has with each of the men in her life. From her Ghuardian/Learner relationhip with Justus that is so close to a father/daughter bond to her best guy-friend Simon, every relationship is different, complex, and gets the appropriate attention it needs for the storyline to progress.

Story / Tempo

Impulse continues with the same hunt for the bad guy(s) who are ultimately responsible for Silver being who and what she is. In addition to the heart-stopping action towards the beginning of the book, there’s a lot of time spent on Silver and Logan’s relationship. We learn even more about Logan’s world in a very tense scene played out over a cocktail party involving other women pawing at Logan. I’m still having a hard time believing Logan would let anyone but Silver touch him but hey, that’s why I don’t write the books, I just talk about them. I don’t think I’ve given too much away. Just know that there’s some big time (but well written) tension with Silver and Logan. Oh, and there’s tension between Justus and Silver, but isn’t there always? And there’s tension between Silver and …. you’ll just have to read to find out!!

Overall, the pace and flow was perfect for me! Not once did I really feel like I wanted to put the book down. Something always came up to make me put it down (*sad eyes*).

If you’re looking for a new Urban Fantasy series but you want a bit more romance added in, then you’ll want to add Dannika Dark’s Mageri series to your TBR shelf, pronto!! And if you’re caught up with books one and two, you really want to hurry up and read this one!(less)

Silver is living in Cognito with her Ghuardian, Justus. She is obviously falling madly in love with Logan (any alpha loving female couldn’t help herself- LOGAN IS YUMMY). She is offered a position by the Mageri for her excellent abilities (hence her new body guard Christian the vampire). But Breed keep attacking her and she’s getting really tired of being the target.

I read "Sterling" (bk #1) and "Twist" (bk #2) in the Mageri Series back to back and had to suffer the wait for "Impulse" the third installment. Definitely worth the wait! Dannika has outdone herself. Each book was better than the previous one and "Impulse" was fantastic!!

I really would like to give this series a higher rating. There were moments while reading where I thought about giving more stars but I just can't.

The biggest problem for me is the romance between Logan and Silver. I don't care for them as individuals but as a couple they are so boring and a walking cliché. All that marking and mine and jealousy (which is NOT hot or a sign of love but just shows weakness) goes on my nerves. The sex isn't hot either. I could do without that whole storyline.

Torn and at the edge of my seat. I don't know if I'll survive having to wait for book 4 to come out. This book had me on edge from the beginning to the end. You can't help but take your time to read this series because you want to soak in every detail of every character but at the same time you want to read through quickly because you can't wait to know what's going to happen next. I have been anticipating the release of Impulse for months and the wait was well worth it! Impulse is Dannika Dark’s third installment in the Mageri series and it’s just a brilliant as the previous two! I have been anticipating the release of Impulse for months and the wait was well worth it! Impulse is Dannika Dark’s third installment in the Mageri series and it’s just a brilliant as the previous two! In Impulse, the reader is provided with a lot of character development, some back stories and, lets not forget, a couple of new and exciting characters.

In book 2, Twist, we were left wondering where the relationship between Logan and Silver was headed. *Mini Spoiler Alert* Hold on to your e-readers. They DO take it to the next level! Uh, and I will leave it at that *wink wink*. I have to say, I wasn’t totally sold on Logan in book 2. I mean, towards the end he was starting to win me over but I wasn’t convinced. Well, book 3 did it. I’m sold! I’m all about team Logan! Ms. Dark does a fantastic job of writing the über alpha male, but one that also has a sweet, gentle and caring side. Okay that’s a very dorky and Fabio-ish way for me to phrase it so I will add by saying, his character is written in such a fashion that it isn’t cheesy nor eye roll worthy,... no way Jose. Just believe me when I say, she wrote the perfect man when she created Logan.

Silver does a lot of soul searching and growing in this book. As a reader we get a little more back story into her human past. The family dynamics and relationship with her Mother sheds a little light on her spit-fire personality. We can understand why she is mouthy and guarded, why she keeps everyone at a distance. It was a real sad glimpse into her past and I hope her character gets some more closure in the books to come. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it that Silver speaks her mind and I hope she doesn’t lose that. Her character cracks me up and I had many a LOL moment. My two favorite scenes in the book were the Gathering and the scene where Silver confronts Justus in the parking lot. It's brilliant because it’s all stuff we wish we could say to people in real life when we confront them. Who knows, perhaps you are the type that gives a good mouthy retort? However, I for one am not thus, I get to live vicariously through Silver when she pops off her one liners. I have a feeling Ms. Dark has and older brother judging by her snappy comebacks, to men especially.

Another character that got some more page time was Justus. We didn’t see a whole lot of Justus in book 2 so I was excited to see he had more of a pivotal role in Impulse. And, oh my is his back story ever so heart breaking. Again, this was another huge character developing moment for us readers. We get to see that Justus and Silver aren’t so different. They both have huge barriers, albeit they stem from different sources, but they are both guarded beings that won’t let anyone get too close. I won’t spoil what Justus’ deal is but let me tell you, it’s a flippen Greek tragedy.

I absolutely adore the Breed world Dannika Dark has created. It’s creative and different with a life of its own. I love that it’s a little world hidden in plain sight, right under the noses of regular human beings. If you love Urban Fantasy then this is Urban Fantasy at it’s finest! Ms. Dark is so talented, I have yet to be disappointed, bored or lack-luster about any of her work thus far.

The Good: Because her 'rebirth' as a Mage almost made her into an adolescent again (due to how the Mageri treat Learners) we see Sterling growing into herself and her life as a Mage more and more every book. While she is still learning, she holds her own on a regular basis, but for those (like me) who like a little "damsel in distress" sometimes, there are great moments like that, also. Justus fans will be thrilled because we learn more about him in this book than ever before. Simon fans will love his ever-present snarky and hilarious humor, and for those who wanted to get to know Finn a bit, he's fleshed out more as well. For Silver and Logan fans...you won't be disappointed! For anyone who thinks that foreplay is not nearly as sexy as the "main event", Dannika will change your mind! She can write a love scene that will leave you steamy well after you close the book, without getting too kinky or over-the-top. Love scenes aside, Ms. Dark is a master at creating romance and there are some swoon-worthy scenes in this book that will have you sighing days later.

The Bad: The book was a little anticlimatic. Lots of things happen and we learn a bunch of information, but I felt as though there wasn't a specific climax to the book. However, this didn't affect my enjoyment of it at all.
There are times when Silver's immaturity is off-putting. As I mentioned, I know she's unhappy and adjusting to a strange, new life, but some of her reactions bordered on childish at times. I also wasn't always a huge fan of how she treated Logan. While she's not purposely bad to him, and is understandably not ready to make a life long commitment, I also didn't feel like she respected his cultural beliefs at times. Other than the first time they met, he has been nothing but good to her and supportive of her and she still constantly questioned him. I hope that she works harder to deserve him (as he does to her) in the future.

Bottom Line: Fans of the Mageri series will be happy with this new addition - I sure was! It's really got something for everyone: romance, suspense, mystery, action...and LOGAN! Ok, ok, maybe that's just for me.

Great 3rd addition to this series! Silver is one of my favorite urban fantasy characters because of her spunk and her heart. Her stubbornness can be really annoying at times - like when she should just choose Logan whom she clearly loves! - but it is part of who she is. And perfect characters would be even more annoying.

Logan is my favorite male character in the book and I wish that Silver would just choose him already - he has proven consistently that he is worthy. I would be devastated if she...more
