It is about a New England family that just happens to be comprised of a couple with two sons and five dogs—all cohabitating in one large farmhouse. Dale Ryan invites us into her home for a close-up view of what it's like to live with dogs. This is a rather ...more

Photographer Dale Ryan has captured the joy of living and sleeping with her wonderful dogs. Her lovely home is packed with all sorts of amazing objects that are displayed with such care that it looks like a page ripped out of Home Beautiful. . This is a gorgeous book that should be left out on your coffee table for all to enjoy. I am so jealous of the author's garden and dogs! ‘Sleeping with the Beast’ by Dale Ryan is sort of a Good Housekeeping field guide to living with dogs. The beautiful photos that accompany the text are a scrapbook of the author’s upscale New England home, Breeze Hill Farm, and her dogs. This book is a lovely tribute to a large (well to do) family full of boys and big dogs - dogs who share the beds, rule the roost, and enjoy the companionship of all the members of their pack - the two leggers and the other four leggers! The photos are beautiful - and the observations are poignant to anyone who has ever loved and shared a life with dogs. Any dog lover, and especially one with a love for beautiful dog-centric interiors, will love this book!

I think I wanted more about the dogs than this family's life. The book is attractive, but scattered since it tries to do a whole lot of things and doesn't focus very much on any one thing.

The pictures alone were worth it... loved the big beasts. Would have been nice to see deeper aspects about how to really survive the fur overloads. totally enjoyed .
