Dr. Alistair Woodbury has arrived in Fool’s Gold for a visit with his friend and colleague, Dr. Simon Bradley (Only Yours, September 2011). Unfortunately, one of Alistair’s vaccinations didn’t take, and he’s infected with measles, thanks to an outbreak among the children in the Southeast Asian village he’s just left. Simon may be a good friend, but since his wife Montana is seven months pregnant, he’s not about to risk her exposure to the disease. Alistair will have to find somewhere else to sta...more

Almost Summer

This e-book novella is part of Mallery’s Fool’s Gold series. When Alistair’s visit to his friend, Simon, endangers Simon’s wife, Montana’s pregnancy (he has the measles), Paige offers Alistair a place to stay and nurses his back to health.

Paige is still in mourning for her Aunt, who she grew up with after her parent’s deaths. Paige has always wanted to see the world, but feels stuck in Fool’s Gold, so she turns to Alistair, whose stories about travelling all over the world as a sur...more
A Tasty Read/ Sweet Reads Reviews

This novella has it all: a quirky heroine, a sexy, British hero and an adorable story involving measles, emotional pain and finding love again.

I know this is a very quick read, but for what it was, I LOVED IT!! It could have a lot to do with Alistair Woodbury, our hero, who is actually royalty in England, but works as a doctor over boarders helping children with rare diseases. He is handsome, intelligent and has been all over the world. Of course Paige M...more

Very good for a Novella. My only complaint is that the story was so short, meaning that the character and relationship development was too quick. I loved Paige from page one! Her fun and light attitude, her heart, her sense of humor, and her confidence are immediate draws. And the crazy situation her and Alistair get thrown into is pure entertainment.
Alistair is a friend, and past co-worker, of Simon who has come to town for a visit with Simon and his pregnant wife Montana. Simon immediately di...more

When Paige stumbles across Alistair Woodbury who has contracted the measles and is highly contagious but that doesn't bother Paige and she brings him home and nurses him to health. As he starts to recover they learn about each other. Paige learns about Alistair's wife and daughter who died while he was away practicing medicine in foreign countries.

He learns that Paige has always wanted to visit different places but something has always held her back. Perhaps she just needed the right guide or s...more

I love this series. It is a novella about Alistair, Simon's friend, from Only Yours. He is a British doctor that does the same kind of surgeries of poor and 3rd world patients needing burn or reconstructive surgery. He comes to the United States, but has been exposed to and comes down with measles which made it so he could not stay with pregnant Montana. He ends up staying with Paige, a friend of Montana's that lives alone and has several jobs to make ends meet. She takes him home and cares for...more

Cute but short story about Paige, a Fool's Gold resident who ends up hosting Alistair Woodbury when he comes to visit his friend Simon. Unfortunately, Simon's wife Montana is preggers and Alistair has measles so he can't stay at their home. Paige offers her house and the rest is history....
Due to the shortness of the story, there is no real character development but both people are nice and involved in helping others and have had loss in their lives. Both Paige and Alistair are reassessing what...more

3.5 stars.

I'm going to keep my review short and sweet. This is a typical SM story that continues her Fool's Gold series of books. Aside from the tired and overused issue hanging over the hero's life, I would say the book was a comfortable read. I think this story can be read in less than 30 minutes, so if you have some appointments to go to and need a quick read, pick up this story. And don't worry about it it being out of order from the other Fool's Gold books.

Alistair made an impression on me in Only Yours so even though it had been some time since, I remembered him immediately when I started reading.

Like Simon, Alistair has been carrying some baggage as he goes through life and after hearing from Simon about his new life in Fool's Gold, he decided to come over for a visit and see for himself.

Alistair is just so absolutely charming and sweet and so British. I loved how his character was being written. It's certainly no wonder that Paige would be swep...more

Very short. What a pity. I had a good feeling about Alistair Woodbury, him being English (like a Englishman in NY lol!) and instead he's been burned in a short story. I thought he deserved his very own story (and longer than this one).

Not a bad story but as I said, short!

I am generally not a big novella fan because by the time the book climaxes, it is time for the end. However, once again Miss Mallery makes me bow down to her genius. If you are looking for a short sweet and quick read that will leave a lingering impact on you, this is IT!!

A very quick read but a perfect Susan Mallery work. Lovable characters. There wasn't a lot of depth to this but as a novella, that's expected. A little more development would have been great in a full-length work but it's a nice sample of the Fool's Gold series.

Quick little teaser into Fools Gold :)

Paige takes care of Allistar when he is sick. He remembers his wife and child and realises what he's been missing. Talking to Paige about traveling and she realizes what she's been missing.. They both have found it in each other.

I wish this were a full-length novel over a novella because these two characters were great. I loved so many of Paige's comments to Alastair, especially the one about the British needing tea (which was clearly wittier than what I just wrote!).

I found that Almost Summer moved very fast but I suppose that is to be expected in a 50 page novella. I found the majority of the plot to be highly unrealistic and while it was a cute, breezy, easy read, I didn't take anything away from it.

first of british doctor? oh i can just imagine the accent.. such a sucker for them. i loved the banter between these two. ahhhh wish this was longer im happy though to see simon and montana featured in this one. fun and sweet short read.

This is a very cute, funny, must read. It was way to short but still enjoyable. The interaction between both Paige and Alistair is so fun to read about. They make the story. You don't need to read this short story to read the others but it would be a same to miss it.

This was a short but sweet story. There was enough to the story for it to have been turned into a novel. I felt as though the author rushed the story, which made it a bit silly and unbelievable at times.
Lara
This was a sweet novella about a woman opposites who have exactly what the other needs. It was a bit simplistic, which is why I didn't give it more stars, though it was an easy and pleasurable read.
Anneka
Quite a bit hokey-er than the others in the series. It seemed maybe rushed and not completely thorough with how quick it was over. May have been better to be a complete novel as opposed to a novella.
Faye
This is a novella. Paige has always wanted to travel. Then she plays host to an ill doctor. Love happens and travel will happen. It is a cheery little read.
Justin
A very sweet addition to the Fool's Gold series. Nice to get to know Allistair after his brief earlier appearence. My one complaint? The story was way too short.

Found a new author that I will be reading. I loved the writing and humor along with the romance even though this was just a Novella, its all i needed to get hooked on the author.
Shannon
This book was a fast read. I picked it at random from my library's catalog. I'm sure I will read the rest of the series. Very light. Pretty predictable.
Latte
Love the series but found this a little too fluffy for me. Even as a novella. But it'll tide me over till the next full length novel comes out in June.
Hpitcher
Good for a novella. Im not really one to read them because I don't like having a story told compacted into like 50 pages but this one wasn't too ad.
Allison
A good, short read. I guess it's not a long read because it would be too similar to Simon and Montana's story, but an epilogue would have been nice.
Lori
Pretty shallow characters. Attraction was unconvincing. This could have been a great story but it fell short because of the short length.

I like this series. I seem to be unable to read it in order, but the books are still good and you can really picture the people.
Cathy
3.5 stars. I wish it wasn't a novella. I think there was enough there to create a full book. But, it was cute nonetheless.
