Possibly one of, if not the best book I’ve read so far this year is a tale about 3 friends and one interloper all living at the Grim. The cover will mislead you, yes it looks like a horror film and yes, it has many floors but for the people living in The Grim the nightmares are in their minds. You see, The Grove Ridge Inpatient Mental hospital has had great successes and it is the place to be locked up if you need to be.

This novel was a page-turner. Not because it has the typical heart-racing elements of your average thriller or horror novel. It’s a page-turner because the author does an excellent job of trickling information throughout the story, forcing you to continue reading to get the whole picture. As the reader, you gradually learn more about the main character, Jaycee Baynes, her life, and the night she killed her abusive ex-boyfriend.

I was extremely happy to receive an advanced copy of The Grim and found it to be a gripping, insightful read about being institutionalized in a mental health facility and dealing with the makings of a fragile mind.
