I just love the Whiskey Creek series and When Snow Falls is no exception! It is well written, with fleshed-out characters who try to do the best they can with what life has given them. I was happy to have this after I finished When Lightning Strikes, so I could continue with this universe straight away!

I had a few problems with Cheyenne and Devlin’s romance, or more specifically issues with Chey. She is a 31 year old virgin, wanted to save it for someone special. She wanted someone like Joe, whom she has had a crush on since high school. But when her friend Eve lets it be known that she also has a crush, Chey just steps to the side and lets Eve have at him. Then Devlin makes one off the cuff remark to Chey and the next thing you know, Chey and Devlin are in bed. Even in romantic fiction, for m...more
Simply ADORED this book...there are only few words needed to describe it...Wonderful, Charming, and Heartwarming. Following Cheyenne on her journey of self-discovery was a ride of a lifetime and I would have only wanted one man by my side...Dylan Amos.
Yes, you do need to read a good ways into the book until you meet Dylan, but there is so much you need to learn about Chey and the women that she "thought" were her family, but maybe she has been lied to all along. We get to know Cheyenne, what ki...more

Cheyenne has a sense that things aren't right in her life. . . beyond her mother's impending death from pancreatic cancer and her sister's drug use. She has a faint memory of another life. She's hoping to figure out what's missing before her mother dies, but to no avail.
In the mean time, her friends are going on a cruise at Christmas time and she can't go because her mother won't tell her where she was born and she's been unable to get a copy of her birth certificate. Just before her friend Eve...more

There were so many reasons for me not to like this book: a hero that I didn't really like, much less connect with, a heroine that doesn't seem to have a spine, and an ending that, even after 441 pages, doesn't feel entirely... ended.
And yet...
I loved it. I raced through the book, not picking up another in between (since I usually rotate about three at a time, this is a big deal.) Brenda Novak creates a great town with characters that you want know more about. This isn't one of those books where...more

Cheyenne Christensen is plagued by memories of a pretty woman with blond hair, fancy dresses and a canopied bed, but the two people who hold the answer—her mother and her sister—are unwilling to provide her with answers.
After moving from town to town and living a vagrant lifestyle, Cheyenne and her family settle in Whiskey Creek. When her mean, cold-hearted mother is diagnosed with cancer, Cheyenne is more desperate than ever to find the answers to her unanswered questions: who is the blond w...more

I so loved the novella and first book in this series, but this book fell way short of the others. I kept reading the description for the book because as it turns out, we're not introduced to Dylan, the hero of the book, until Chapter 9!!! I was really convinced this was going to be Cheyenne and Joe's story. That would have been a great progression of the series since book 1 was about Joe's sister. I didn't find the romance of Dylan and Cheyenne believable at all, especially given the long, slow...more

4 STARS This is moving story but thier are a lot of love scenes in it. Cheyenne Christensen is going through tough times. Her mother is dying of cancer and is mean to her. Her older sister is on drugs and parties. They had a tough time always moving and her moms new boyfriends. Not having enough to eat but mom always enough for boose and drugs. Cheyenne is not even sure her mom is her mom. She remembers a blond lady and having lots of toys and food. She guesses wi...more

Cheyenne and Dylan are far removed from the wealth and glitz that serve as the background of Gail and Simon in the first book in this series. Chey has known what it is to lack the most basic human comforts. Anita left her daughters alone or with strangers, she made them part of her scams, she even allowed a man to fondle Chey for money. Added to these horrific experiences are the memories of a very different life that make Chey question who she is and who her mother is. Although Dylan has been...more

Cheyenne Christensen never recalls it snowing in Whiskey Creek.
She recalls her mother Anita having cancer and she had to take care of the family herself, and tend to her moms' medicine.
The older daughter, Presley works at a casino. Least they are not begging on street corners or malls.
Eugene Crouch the PI had shown Presley pictures of Chey and her mother, why wasn't she in the picture also and why the different names?

This was my first Brenda Novak book. I must say I really like her style of writing and can't wait to read more by her. While reading this one, the second of four, I found myself being drawn in by the characters and their stories. It makes you wonder how you would react when you suddenly found out that the person that raised you actually abducted you when you were only three years of age. You vaguely had memories of another life, but were told they weren't real just a dream. After moving around t...more
I really like this series and these characters. However I do have an issue with the series as whole to bring up later.
I liked Cheyenne as a character and both her actions and personality felt real even in light of her childhood. I also liked that she and Joe actually had chemistry, even if they weren't right for each other, because it's something different in romance.

There has never been a book written by Brenda Novak that I haven’t enjoyed. When Snow Falls is book two in her Whiskey Creek series. Well known for her place in the romantic suspense genre the Whiskey Creek series is her foray back into contemporary romance. After having been pleasantly delighted with the first book When Lightening Strikes, I naturally was ready to jump right into When Snow Falls. When Snow Falls has been written in such a way that allows you to watch this romance blossom into a...more
I have really enjoyed this series but in this case the heroine almost ruined it for me. I have to say I understood where she was coming from… I really did.. but he was working so hard to be there for her and she kept hiding him. It just made me really sad for him but they are still great couple.
Cheyenne has never had an easy life. Her “mom” is now dying from cancer and while she mourns for the loss she can’t be completely sad. Her mom is a piece of work and no-one really feels sad that she is dy...more

I was lucky enough to get a review copy of When Snow Falls from the publisher through NetGalley. I really love the Whiskey Creek series, and was excited to get the next book.
I have to say I felt like When Snow Falls moved a little slow in the beginning. It took me to about 20% to really get into the story. None of it was because I didn’t like Cheyenne, but because I really couldn’t see her pursuing a relationship with Joe, since her best friend Eve liked him. This goes against every girl code o...more

I am a HUGE fan of series books and tend to love them all. This series is no exception. I love the Whiskey Creek series and this one lived up to my expectation. I really enjoyed visiting Whiskey Creek and enjoyed reading Cheyenne & Dylan's Story.

I won this book from Harlequin Books, so I had to buy the first two in the series. WOW! This is such a fantastic series. I'm loving the depth of the characters and the off-beat plots. I think Ms. Novak does a wonderful job of taking very unsympathetic characters and making them relatable - not necessarily like-able. As more information regarding Cheyenne & Presley's childhood is uncovered, the reader begins to see exactly how desperate these two girls are to escape. Cheyenne longs for a bett...more
Until she arrived in Whiskey Creek with her mother and sister, Cheyenne lived a transient life. Her mother would arrive in a town, do some small time swindles, work as a prostitute and even use her children to cheat people out of their money.
With terminal cancer her mother isn't long for this world and Cheyenne is desperate to get some answers before she takes them to the grave with her, but both her mother and her sister are keeping secrets for their own reasons.

I ended up liking this book a lot, but Novak really had me confused in the beginning. Twice while less than a hundred pages in I had to re-read the blurb and the author's note, sure I had made a mistake. Who was this Dylan guy that they mentioned? The only man we saw Chey with during that time was Joe (who I really hope will get his own HEA in a future book in the series, because the poor guy sure deserves it!). When Dylan finally showed up, though, I quickly became a fan. There were actually ti...more
Who among us hasn’t fallen in love with the bad boy at least once in our lives? Except Dylan doesn't really deserve his status, at least not any more. And Cheyenne’s been the proverbial good girl way past that reputation’s expiration date! She’s been in love with the town’s good boy, Joe, forever, but once she has a chance to lay claim to his affections, she’s troubled by the lack of zing in that relationship.

I have only come across this theme once before, where a kidnapped child, now adult, deals with her myriad issues in a healthy way. Nora Roberts explored it in Birthright, and now Brenda Novak. Wow. Brenda wrote an excellent portrayal of Cheyenne's many problems intertwined with a double-whammy crisis in her life that forces her to seek a resolution. Chey also grows from shunned-teenager mode to Goddess-who-chooses-her-Happy Ever After. I visualized her with stringy hair and a tired expression at...more

Wonderful! Snow was falling when I read this but aside from that, Cheyenne and Dylan's story was terrific. Dylan's courtship was touching and Cheyenne's attraction felt natural. I would have been disappointed if she had ended up with Joe, he was just too vanilla for my tastes. To quote Dylan on page 113, Far as I'm concerned, polite is boring.
That's the same page that has the quote that makes me appreciate Dylan's appeal for Cheyenne, You ever want me to show you what it's like... I mean, my hea...more

I’ve long enjoyed Novak’s romantic suspense novels and despite the very lackluster novella that introduced the Whiskey Creek series, I’ve stuck with this contemporary romance series, and I’m so glad I have!

I really enjoyed this book and was close to giving it 5 stars. Here is why I didn't- It was quite a ways into the book before we even met Dylan, the hero. At one point I went back to check the book description because I thought the book was supposed to be about Cheyenne and Dylan, but it was being set up so well to be about Cheyenne and Joe (and Eve). When Dylan does finally come along it is in an abrupt and sudden manner that he is introduced to us and the story. However, I quickly grew to ador...more
Okay, so I just finished my second Readers Choice Award book, and author, Brenda Novak, doesn’t disappoint with her next installment to the “Whiskey Creek” series. The novel started off a little slow for me, but by page 50, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Got to get me some of that Dylan Amos! He’s definitely one-to-die-for! Sexy. Badass. And, extremely fearless! He’s confident and bold, but yet tender and caring. He’s honest and responsible and would never turn his back on someone that h...more
I read this series entirely out of order. This probably affected my view points on certain characters but didn't detract from my enjoyment of the series. Of all of the Whiskey Creek books this one was probably my favorite. I really found the feelings, and problems between Cheyeene and Dylan to be true to real life and not obviously manufactured, only in a book type of drama. I also found both characters to be extremely likeable without being so good that the book is boring. These books remind me...more
I had a little trouble getting into this one, but did end up enjoying it quite a bit. I liked Dylan better than I liked Cheyenne. I was frustrated at her reluctance to commit to Dylan because of peer pressure even though I understood why her background made her act that way. I really liked the way we were able to see how Dylan was wrongly perceived and grow to apppreciate his strength of character and the way Cheyenne finally came through with a strong commitment to Dylan. I would have liked a l...more

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.
“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”
However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a...more
