I think I will probably give all of HKW's books 4 or 5 stars, so my reviews of her books might be a bit tainted. The reason for this is her writing is so tailored to what I like. When I get a sandwich from Subway, I get the spicy italian with pepperjack cheese, lettuce, pepperoncinis, and spicy southwest sauce. Let's just say Heather makes exactly the type of sandwich I like. I liked it better than the first two books in the series. I found Azrael's "step-back and get to know you" approach to Sophie a lot more refreshing/likable than his brothers "knock 'em over the head and drag 'em back to the cave" approach to meeting their archesses. Sexy vampires can do no wrong in my book. There was so aspects that I did not like. His whole reading her mind without her permission or the fact that she didn't even know he could read minds. It's so horribly sad when I pondered this review, because I realized that I've come to expect impeccable vocabulary, impressive metaphors, and an exceptional flexing of the imagination to unknown territory when it comes to Heather Killough-Walden's work.

She is so impressive that the vast scope of her work a reader who reads many of her books can become blasé about. And I'm utterly appalled that a book so incredible I can think, this is normal.

She is so impressive that the vast scope of her work a reader who reads many of her books can become blasé about. And I'm utterly appalled that a book so incredible I can think, this is normal.

No, it's not normal, it's damn impressive compared to other authors, it's only normal when you speak of this particular author. And yet I know Heather must have dug so deep to get the tones and shades just right, she must have been so pleased when she invented shadow walking and the magical creatures littered in this novel.

It's such a gem of author ingenuity that to be blasé about it would be a gross insult to the author.

This book is simply outstanding. It's a given to say I loved every second of it, that the world faded away as I stuck to the pages with a force beyond my control and was verily compelled to read it from start to finish with the only pause being for sleep - because that's what I've come to expect from this author's worlds.

As contemporary as this book is, Heather makes it all SO plausible, so real, so everyday, that it doesn't feel like a stretch of the imagination to believe these creatures are all around us and this battle is in fact going on in the darkness of the night, in realms and locations we're ignorant about.

It's utterly believable - but more than this, this story of Sophie coming to love an archangel is beautiful, mesmerizing, and very emotive.

It moves your emotions because it's the grittiest of the angel series so far. It boldly steps into the darkness of humanity and it strikes a cord - over and over again. It's so sad and bitter in places that you are moved to tears - I found the issue of the step-father really hit a nerve with me and it made me wish for a world where children are cherished and that men and their desires left young girls the heck alone and out of their sordid disgusting paws.

It's a feat of a novel, it's jam packed with drama and action and attraction and desperation. There are threads here that linger. For an author to move the reader's emotions to such a degree means they are really very good at what they do. This author is a guarantee that you will be moved around the emotional chess board - completely covering it - in each and every one of her novels, but with each new release she seems to be sewing these emotions deeper into the reader, leaving a stamp on your spine like the flag on the moon that declares *I've been here*.

Well done Heather K-W, your work never ceases to impress me. I apologize for taking your talent so horrifically for granted, because truly this book surpasses any expectation a normal sane reader would have. I love that you paint novels with light, dark, rainbows and nightmares, breaching the apathy of this world with your art.

This novel is just stupendous and definitely leaves a lingering impression. Well done! This is truly an incredibly original novel. You've never read anything like it, and I dare say she'll start a new trend in paranormal romances. (less)

Sophie has had a horrendous childhood and still has mental scars to prove it. Her Best Friend Juliette is getting married in Scotland and she is the Maid of Honor. But first Juliette has somethings to tell Sophie. Juliette is 1 of the 4 Archesses. Talk about blown out of the water and thrown for a loop. With all the wings and healing abilities etc... She is coming to terms with all this when she sees Azrael.

He is the Lead Singer for the band VALLEY OF THE SHADOW. She has had a crush on him forever and the daydreams are very x-rated.
He recognizes Sophie as his Archesses. Azrael reads her mind somewhat and realizes that he must take this whole thing slow. Until he must do what he needs to do or lose her forever.

I loved the Love Story that this book gives out. The fight scenes are awesome! The scenes were so well written that I could picture everything as if I was a bystander in the book. I was so drawn to this story line it was the most awesome feel.

I will never look at a Sand Dollar the same way again!

Q-Who is the woman that Juliette and Sophie are chatting with??

I Highly recommend this book.

I love that Azrael, FINALLY got his Archess. I am a sucker for a suffering soul I guess. I think the way this story was, is a little more set apart from the other two. There is more twists in this one along with much more information to help us see what is coming for the conclusion. The third installment of the Lost Angels series brings us the story of Azrael. Of the four archangels, Azrael underwent the most drastic change when they came to earth two millennia ago in search of their archesses. Heather did it again. I absolutely loved Death’s Angel. I was so happy to finally read about Azrael finding his Archess. And Sophie Bryce was his perfect match.

I have to admit, at first I thought Sophie was going to be too timid, especially with what she’s been through, but in the end, she was tough as nails. Exactly what Az needed.

Instead of blurting out to Sophie that she is his archess, Az wants a chance to earn her love. Especially before he drops the bomb on her that he's a vampire. He begins a casual courtship, but enemies, both old and new, threaten Sophie. He must reveal himself to her to keep her safe, but will he drive her away? And will his vampire and archangel powers, even combined, be enough to defeat the threat to her?

My analysis:

I give Death's Angel 4.5♥s in large part due to the character of Azrael. He's the dark yet compassionate former Angel of Death, the seductive voice of the rock band Valley of Shadow, the powerful King of the Vampires, the tall, muscular, impossibly handsome archangel with the golden eyes. Yowza! It's no wonder Sophie practically hyperventilates when she first sees him in person. But we also see a different side of Az in Death's Angel than we did in the first two books--he actually smiles and laughs around Sophie. That lighter side might seem out of character, but it adds to his appeal.

Sophie is a character with a difficult past who is trying to make a better future for herself. She wants to be independent, and so she fights her attraction to Azrael. Her independent streak ends up having critical consequences.

The story is fast-paced, with old enemies pursuing Sophie, and supernatural beings who have been hidden for ages suddenly coming out of the woodwork. Sophie is in mortal danger, Az battles supernatural beings against impossible odds, and unknown magic is at work. Sophie faces a new, mysterious player in town who is a formidable opponent for the archangels. The archangels themselves face death.

With its shift in enemy forces, Death's Angel is a game-changer for the series--another reason I give it 4.5♥s. At least one bombshell is dropped, and a mysterious stranger makes a brief, cryptic appearance. They're intriguing glimpses that will have you looking for the next book in the series. As of this writing, no date is set for Michael's story. But until then, enjoy Death's Angel!(less)

I wanted to like this book. I really did. I really enjoyed the other books in this series and there were parts and aspects of this book that I enjoyed. I found Sophie's backstory interesting, I was excited about the introduction of new villains, and I'm always up for some steamy vampire scenes, but sadly, that's about it. Of all the Archangels, this is the one I looked forward to the most. Azrael, the angel of death, a sexy as hell vampire. I was disappointed. Sophie Bryce knows all about the four Archangels and their fated Archesses after it turns out her best friend Juliette is one. At Juliette’s wedding to Gabriel, Sophie meets Azrael, the Angel of Death and the lead singer of her favorite band Valley of Shadow. Sophie knows she is not Az’s archess but she finds herself obsessed with him and running into him everywhere. Sophie has had a hard life with tragedy and pain few could handle, but Az makes it all go away and to her he is an angel.

Azrael is not only the Angel of Death and the Masked One, lead singer of Valley of Shadows the biggest rock band on the planet but he’s also Lord Azrael, King of the Vampires. When Az sees Sophie at Gabriel and Juliette’s wedding he knows she is the one he’s been looking for for two thousand years. Others know Sophie is his and it turns out the Archangels have more enemies than they originally thought and these enemies will not stop until Sophie and Azrael are separated or dead. Az will stop at nothing to keep Sophie alive now that he’s found her even if that means sacrificing himself.

Death’s Angel is by far the best book in this series!!!!! I liked this series before but now I love it and need Michael’s book ASAP. Death’s Angel picks up a few months after Messenger's Angel at Gabriel and Juliette’s wedding in Scotland. From the first few pages I knew Sophie and Az would be my favorite couple and that the story would be amazing. These two both have such dark pasts but they are so drawn to each other and heal the hurt and pain by being together. The chemistry between the two is red hot and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see when they would give in to their attraction to one another.

Besides being a love story there is a lot of action, mystery and adventure. I am not sure if the story is being set up for a few spin offs once Michael’s book is over with Gregori or the Adrians and the Old Man but I am crossing my fingers that we get more books after the fifth. I was a little sad that Sam didn’t have a big part in this book like he did in the others but I’m sure he’ll be around a lot in Michael’s books.

My only gripes about this book was that, again, too many points of view for me. I really wish everyone didn’t get a POV but oh well. Second there is a lot of time spent on Sophie’s past and how much it has shaped her life but I felt that it was never dealt with and just swept under the rug at the end. i would have liked for her to come to term with what happened and lose some of the hurtful memories she had locked away. Besides these two points I loved this book so much and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I really hope Michael’s book is as or even more amazing than Az’s!(less)

Oh! What a book. Each of the lost angels books have been great. But this one! This is Azrael's story. So it's darker. Sexier. It's a huge story. With his burgeoning love, comes darkness. Because Az is darkness. His Archess also lived in darkness at the beginning of this life. Sophie is strong and loving in spite of her very hard beginnings. They are both so strong. With such a family to back them in the couple find each other as the turmoil on earth heats up. More monsters to fight. More of ever...more

I love Death! OK, so not what I meant to say. ;) What I meant is that Death's Angel has to be my favorite of Killough-Walden's Archangel series. Whether that is due to this one being about a bad boy vampire or because after three books this series is finally hitting its stride, I don't know. Az’s book starts where Messenger’s Angel ended, at Gabriel and Juliette’s wedding. I’ve been looking forward to Azrael’s story since this series began....more I never thought that I would say this, but the farther I get into this series, the more trouble I’m having deciding what series of Heather Killough-Walden’s I like the most. It’s hard to believe that there would be any competition for the Big Bad Wolves, but the Archangels in the Lost Angels series are coming close. (Just don’t tell Malcom Cole.)

Az’s book starts where Messenger’s Angel ended, at Gabriel and Juliette’s wedding. I’ve been looking forward to Azrael’s story since this series began. He’s been in the shadows, quite literally and he’s come close to breaking my heart in almost every book. In Death’s Angel, readers find out exactly how much he has suffered. I knew that this one was going to be intense and as usual, Heather Killough-Walden did not disappoint.

Sophie had almost as much painful history as Azrael did. She lost her parents at a young age and she was basically on her own. She found herself fixated on Azrael but she knew that he was searching for his Arches so she tried to ignore the attraction. Watching Azrael’s patience and Sophie’s turmoil would have been enough to keep readers on the edge of their seats, but there was so much more to Death’s Angel, much, much more.

As if the Adarians and Samael weren’t enough to contend with from an enemy standpoint, there are forces in this book that none of the brothers or Max understand. All the bad guys seem to be coming out to play and their main goal seems to be to keep the Archangels from finding and mating with their Archesses. This book was definitely a turning point in the series. A lot more players were thrown into the mix, more questions were raised than answers given and the stakes just kept getting higher. After this one I can see things going in several different directions and I’m not going to make any assumptions.

Michael’s book is next and after the way things were left at the end of Death’s Angel, it can’t come soon enough. Readers were definitely left hanging, so consider yourself warned.(less)

Death's Angel is the third in HKW's Lost Angels series. The series tells the stories of the 4 favored archangels as they begin to find the archesses that had been promised to them thousands of years ago. Each couple goes through their own troubles and tribulations as they find their own way to true love with their soul mates. Death's Angel is Azrael's and Sophie's story. Shelves: adult, own-it

Let's get to the important information first. There be DRAGONS in this book. Yeah, you read that right. And they can transform into men. Men who wear sparkly leather jackets. Pardon me while I wipe up the drool. Oh, and there's something about an archangel meeting his archess in this book as well. (But DRAGONS.)

The THIRD (technically, fourth) book in The Lost Angels Series left me wanting more! I need to know what happens in the next book!! Talk about a cliffhanger! I was waiting for Azrael's story the most, because as the former Angel of Death, he was changed like no other angel. He became the world's first vampire. Who doesn't love a good vampire story? I don't know about you, but when I want dark and delicious characters that knock me off my feet, I go to Heather Killough Walden!
I have been waiting for months to read this book and let me say: WOW! Words fail me but I will try. I absolutely love Death's Angel. The characters are so strong and potent. Especially Azreal, who is the former Angel of Death. And Sophie, whose heart is big enough to shoulder the world.

I would give this 3.5 stars. I believe my anticipation for the book made the book very anticlimactic. There were parts that were terrific, but for the most part, I felt that it dragged on. There were portions I felt could have been taken out and you would have received the same understanding of what was going on. Again, I think it I didn't expect something breathtaking, the book would have done more for me.
