A review of The Phantom King by Heather Killough-Walden

I loved the first in this series, The Vampire King, so much that I immediately went out and bought this one. Fortunately, this did not disappoint! I loved this book as much. The Vampire King set the scene for the series and (one of my favorite things about good paranormal series), this book pulls you in deeper into this amazing world that Heather created through added layers of intrigue and hints of secrets unknown to the characters.

It is official. I am hooked on Heather Killough-Walden's books. This is the tenth book I've read by Ms. Walden. With every book in The Kings series comes a better and deeper story. The Phantom King is book two in the Big Bad Wolf spinoff series, The Kings. The Vampire King is the first book in the series. I have to say, while The Vampire King left me speechless, this book left me stunned.

Summary: Siobhan Ashdown is a warlock. Warlocks are by no means the same as witches. The magic of a warlock i More...

Wow! What a great read! This is the second instalment of The Kings series, the sequel to Vampire King. It is a spin off from the fabulous Big Bad Wolf Series. Consequently we meet favourite characters from both the Vampire King and The BB Wolf books.

The book follows the meeting of Thane and Siobhan … both headstrong, determined and stubborn people who collide, butt heads and fall in love. Their courtship is brief but their characters are so similar and so sympathetic to each other that their wh More...

I freely admit that I am a Heather Kilough-Walden adict! To start off this review, I will say that you don't need to read the Big Bad Wolf series or even "The Vampire King" book (the first in the Kings series) to enjoy "The Phantom King"; however, there are some parts of the book that will make more sense if you read the others. I highly recommend all of her books!

"The Phantom King" is a hard to put down read, it is a sneak into the bathroom and read kind of book, a stay up all night until you More...

The Phantom King is the second installment in the King series and I was not disappointed, AT ALL.

Thane as the power to turn days into years and years in to centuries for the lost souls and he uses this to put right each wrong. The Phantom King is the second instalment of The Kings series which is the spin-off from the much loved, Big Bad Wolf series. This book is Siobhan Ashdown and Thanatos, The Phantom King's story.

Siobhan has always known that she is a Warlock and has done her best to stay away from using her magic to harm anyone. When the Valkyrie King, Marius, discovers Siobhan is more powerful than she ever dreamed off, her life is put in danger, he will do anything to have her. There is only one person who can More...

Siobhan Ashdown is a Warlock who has dark magic inside her. But her entire life has been devoted to hiding what she is, and to using her magic only for good. It's been a struggle. When her boyfriend loses a battle with a demon who is out to consume her magic, he is sent to Purgatory. There he meets Thanatos (Thane), the Phantom King. And draws Siobhan to Thane's attention.

I was so excited to get Heather's newest novel. I have read all of her books and can sincerely say that I've loved them all. When I found out that the Big Bad Wolf (BBW) series was ending, I was devastated. Although it ended, I was excited to learn that Heather started a spinoff series (The Kings). After reading The Vampire King, which by the way was amazing, I was hungry for the next one.

The Phantom King did not disappoint me in any way. It was fast paced, action-packed and so much fun to read. More...

I’m loving Heather Killough-Walden’s The Kings Series. It may have something to do with my love of the Big Bad Wolf Series, but I think I would like it regardless.

You can get the gist of the series from the description. In The Vampire King, the 13 Immortal Kings found out that each one of them was destined to find their queen. In The Phantom King, Thanatos finds that he is next in line. As usual, fate plays some nasty tricks on the destined pairing. The fact that the destined queens so far have More...

I love this series, Heather has another winner on her hands. From the first page I am hooked and at 12.14am I finally finished this book. Thane, the Phantom King was everything worth waiting for and so much more. All our favourites are back, Roman, Jason and a few new ones are interwoven into the ongoing search for the 13 Queens. Roman has his and now it is Thane's turn to find his queen and it may be sooner than he thinks. A rival King is after her too and it will take everything Thane has and More...

Second book in The Kings series. From the first page this book grabs you and pulls you in. It's that exiting. I started this on my way to work and was so disappointed when we pulled into the parking lot and I had to put the book down.

That being said, had I reviewed this immediately after finishing I would have given it 10 stars. Now that I've had time to think about it I'd still give it the 5 but there were a few things I noticed.

You probably already know the plot so I'll just skip to my review More...

Oh how much I love your work HKW! I loved every single BBW book and both Kings books have been brilliant. I enjoyed this one even more than The Vampire King.

Thane/Thanatos was incredible. He's sexy as hell and the changing tattoo's are amazing.
What I love about HKW writing is that we don't need a sex scene every five minutes to feel the connection between her couples. However the sex scene we do get is absoulutely breathtaking and his dominant streak is so hot I could melt. I love the way hi More...

The Phantom King is the Second installment in the series The Kings, (a spinoff of the Big Bad Wolf Series) by Heather Killough-Walden.

It is the story of Thanatos, the Phantom King and his unwitting Queen; a warlock named Siobhan who has never used her magic to harm others, a rarity amongst warlocks.

The series just gets better and better drawing you in to the many lives of the 13 Kings of the supernatural world.

The story is well written, the characters well defined and easy to follow even if you More...

I did not like this book as much as I've liked Heather Killough-Walden's past books. The story just didn't have much depth, and there were odd errors more typically found in self-pubs, but not normally in HKW's.

The word Akyri showed up in one spot when it should have been Anime, the heroine was called miss Ashdown (twice) instead of Miss Ashdown (note the proper capitalization), and a supposed 6 yr-old child turned into a 16 yr-old teenager with 2 pages. Neglible details, perhaps, but I'm used More...

4 1/2 Stars.

I have to hand it to the author, this book was greatly improved over the first. There is still a bit of weed wadding, as she introduces her main characters and worldbuilds towards the beginning, but it's not mind numbingly long like the first. This must also be some sort of spin-off, with all the random references to previous story-lines that have yet to be covered or introduced. Annoying yes, but not completely unforgivable.

The romance in this book, was one of the most hastened I More...

I have read both books in this series so far and this is my favorite. The stories of each King is so well written and I love how she brings in the characters from the BBW books. In this book I was quite surprised at how much information she put in there. It was like reading mini books within a book. It made me want to know more and it's like waiting on pins and needles to find out what's happening next. I first introduced myself to Heather Killough-Walden in December and jumped in head first. I have read everything she's written that I've been able to get my hands on.

The Phantom King starts off introducing us to Siobhan, a warlock who does not agree with being evil, so aside from fixing antiques she does not use her powers. In the prologue her boyfriend Steve Lazarus is killed and introduces us to Thane (Thanatos) the Phantom King. The twist is Siobhan is meant to be Thane's queen. Let's just s More...

Second book in the Kings series and although it was a short read I have to say I liked it better than the Vampire King.

Thane/ Thanatos was a more sympathetic hero albeit with a serious ghost rider thing going on.
I liked Siobhan as a heroine fighting against the dark elements of her magic and doing her best to do no harm.

There was a bit more world building with the other Kings being introduced and a mysterious black power manipulating matters ....

Overall more enjoyable but still somewhat insubs More...

I will have to say so far between the Big Bad Wolf series and the 2 books released in the Kings (spinoff) series, The Phantom King is my favorite. Thantanos is as HOT as they come, Siobahn is a facinating to say the least and of course we get to read more about all of our favorite characters from BBW. I can not WAIT to see where the next book in the series takes us. If The Phantom King is any indication of the direction then we are definately in for a BIG treat.

The second book of The Kings series and its about the Phantom King Thane & his mate Siohban.

It was a fast and easy read and the story is intriguing. Although there were times i had to slow down because the introduction of the other characters were a plenty and i needed a second to remember all their names who they were.

Heather Killough-Walden's writing has so much depth and detail and charisma that you can't help but want to keep reading. Her characters come to life and you can't help but become part of their world! You keep reading the story you're on, and then, you want to read another.

The Phantom King is the second book in Heather Killough-Walden’s The Kings series, (spin-off from her Big Bad Wolf series), while it could easily be enjoyed as a standalone book, I recommend starting with the BBW series and picking up The Vampire King before fully enjoying this one. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with so many of my favorite characters from the previous books, and meeting more Kings. (Even the “bad” guys are great). The Phantom King by Heather Killough-Walden continues her Big Bad Wolf series and is the second book in the new Kings series (The Vampire King being the first book). This story is outstanding with the addition of several "kings" (total of 13) who will be the subject of future books (can't wait!). Heather knows how to craft paranormal stories that keep the reader from not wanting to put the book down until the last page is read. Although I like the author Heather Killough-Walden, I always coming away feeling that there is a missing depth to her books. They are good reads but not great. The Phantom King, Thanatos finds his Queen Siobahn and has to defend her from one of the thirteen Kings who turns bad and wants her powers. The book progresses pretty well but the ending felt a little abrupt and the final showdown between Thane and the Akyri King Marius is quick and painless. It was an enjoyable quick read.

I enjoyed this book more than the first one. It is well written, exciting. I couldn't put it down. There is one thing that bothered me and i find that it was lacking. Relationship between Siobhan and Steven. At the beginning we see that he gives his life for her. They had relationship that was growing, how it was described the next step would be for them to live together. While I really enjoy all of HKK's books, they are all full of many typos. It does become distracting. I think if she employed an additional (or new) editor, many of these minor mistakes could be eliminated. I love the stories she spins, she has excellent character development, and I feel like I am in all of her scenes. Keep up the great writing, work on the editing.
