Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I loved this book. Beauty was awesome- the right blend of quiet and strength. And for some reason, I don't know why, I have discovered an obsession for Leo. I really don't know why, since he is only mentioned about three times in this book, but I adore him. He is mine, do you hear me? He. Is. Mine.
Valiant has warned them sternly to avoid this area. He keeps them in control for the most part. Leo is also good with intimidation. He’s a wild bastard thou More...

I loved this one! I wasn't quite sure how I was going to feel about the pairing with Shadow & Beauty, but I must say these two are just beautiful together. I loved that this one is about a Species Female pairing this time and not our past books in this series where they are all about the Species Males & human females.

LOVED the first 3/4 so much. Last 1/4 slowed down so much I became frustrated. Shadow and Beauty were lovely characters though!

Finally, the book i have been waiting for !!!

I loved this from the first page, the fact it was about Beauty just made me even happier.

I loved how sweet Beauty was and i liked that one of the timid Gift females was ready to step out and show a bit of backbone and independance. I was so glad she was ready to live her life. I could understand how she was feeling trapped and lonely with everyone coddling the Gift females, and not have the opportunity the meet any of the male New Species to get over More...

¡Me Encanta!

I can't quite pinpoint what was missing for me in this book. I think it was too easy. I really liked Beauty and Shadow individually, but I don't know if I liked them as a couple so much. It was strange.

I loved that we saw a different side to the Gift females. They always seemed so fragile and broken in the previous books. It was nice to see one bounce back and want to live after everything that happened. I felt bad for her that she went from her prison into a different sort of prison. She was s More...

Every time I read one of the New Species books I get two feelings. The first feeling is excitement and a huge thrill. I am so happy to get my hands on the new book. I know that Laurann will be bringing me more into the New Species world. I will be getting to meet more Species and getting to know their stories. I love getting to look back at the other New Species that I have read about and seeing how thin More...

First of all let me say that New Species men do it for me! Of all the different paranormal guys I have read stories about ( vampires warewolves shapeshifters dragons goblins faries ect ect) New Species are the ones that make me want to move to Homeland (Justice is my favorite. Move over Jessie ( although I love her character too) Tiger is a close second) Anyway I digress. I liked Shadow and Beauty's story. I was very excited to see a Gift ( a female New Species period) get her happily ever after More...

There is only one thing that I can say after reading Laurann Dohner's ninth New Species book, and that is 'WOW'. This book grabs you from the start and does not let go of you until the last page is turned, and you are still left panting for more. Shadow can be read as a standalone but to get the full New Species experience I strongly suggest you start with her first book Fury and work your way through.

Beauty at one time was called Mud More...

Another Enjoyable read by Laurann Dohner. New Series is a favorite of mine and it doesn't dissapoint!

Description:

eauty resents being labeled Gift Species. Everyone is way too overprotective, males aren’t even allowed to speak to her and so far true freedom eludes her. Then a big, sexy Species officer mistakes her for the enemy and takes her to the ground.

Shadow is dumbfounded. He has a Gift pinned under him—a big no-no. But Beauty is fascinated and wants to know Shadow a lot better. She is full More...

4.5 stars.

Oh! I was so excited when the Kindle edition of this book was released on October 29! I started reading and finished it fast.

Characters introduced in earlier books come together in this latest Species book. This is definitely an erotic romance, but I would say that this particular book is a little lighter on the erotic and heavier on the story side. And that's not a bad thing.

There are many issues that arise in this story. Beauty, a Gift species, was previously held as a possession, a More...

Probably one of the most heartfelt books Laurann has written. It was deep. I mean it was an emotionally deep book. Sure the sensuality was there. The caring was there, but the fact that both of the characters had at one time both been sexually assaulted was handled admirably.
Gently and sweetly the feelings and concerns of each character was considered. I loved how Beauty stood up for herself! To go from being abused and being named "Mud" by her keepers, to fighting back and even protecting Sh More...

I was a little apprehensive about reading Shadow being that it has the first New Species/New Species pairing in the series and the previous book (Obsidian) was a little bit of a let down. But Shadow quickly redeemed the series in my eyes. The humor, sexuality and overall rhythm of the series has returned full force with Shadow.

Lightening in the sky will always remind Shadow of his Beauty running in the night. Beauty was a Gift female genetically altered by Mercile to be sold, abused, and mentally tortured but she didn't have it quite as bad as other Gifts. She was very tired of that label. It meant that she was kept separate from her Species, treated as weak and fearful, and looked at with sympathy. She wanted companionship, to experience what the other Species females experienced, to know sex....she wanted to be a no More...

This book hooked me back into the new species series. I had not enjoyed Obsidian as much as I had hoped, but I really enjoyed the take that Laurann took with this book.

Unlike all of the previous books in the series, which involve a male new species and a female human. This book is about Beauty, a new species 'gift' female who was rescued in book 4 (Justice). Like all the gift species she is immediately segregated from all males and placed in an environment of only females. She is unable to enjo More...

I can't say enough about Shadow. I have waited and waited for a Gift Female book and Laurann didn't disappoint. Beauty was the perfect mix of vulnerability, loyalty and bravery. Shadow was amazing he faced his own demons with her by his side. He would never be mistaken for anything but a Species male with all that protective dominance, gggrrr. He is yummylishus.

Finally a story with a Gifted female with a New Species male. Beauty is a primate and easily mistaken as a human. She's right that she's still being treated like a prisoner even though she's been freed. I'm a bit startled how much they wrap her up in bubble wrap. It's a bit depressing. She's pissed about it and I can totally understand it. Who wouldn't be pissed being treated like a stupid child?

Fortunately, Shadow doesn't think she's a stupid child. He is hesitant but good think for Beauty. She More...

This series is addictive.

It’s so wonderful to finally see a female species finding a mate, and for that to be a Gift, was the icing in the cake.

I loved that it started with the moment Jessie rescue Beauty, because it rounded the story perfectly.

Being labeled Gift was a problem for Beauty because no male dared to even look her way and all she really wanted was to be treated equally as the rest of the species and finally feel free.

Poor Shadow had deal with more than a few male thinking he was tak More...

To me these Species books just keep getting better and better. Hot and super possessive is Shadow. Protective! Beauty, inexperienced, lonely, treated like fragile glass and not a bit happy about it. Both broken and on the mend.Highly highly recommend this whole series to anyone, over the age of 18, who likes to watch the more animalistic side of humanity with an HEA.

I have to say, I was anticipating this book to the point where I had a hard time concentrating on any other book. I was fortunate enough to be able to read the whole series through book 8, one after the other (My hubby got me a very generous Amazon gift card) so, when I saw the 9th book was about to be released, I was so excited! I just can't get enough of those New Species men! I was not disappointed in this continuation of the series.

Okay, first let me state that I Love this series. There's just something about the alpha males, that have all the great qualities that our males lack, and the six pack abs, and their ability to use their senses- all their senses.... Well I'll just say, you had me at Hello! I have loved all the stories and was glad that this one was about a Gift female, since they're similar to humans it works with the whole Alpha thing, where they have to take care of the “little woman”. I'm going to cry! I've loved this series so much and have become so invested into the world of New Species that I'm so sad that I have to wait until the next book is released which is probably next year sometime. I was so excited that there were nine books released so far but I devoured this series because I couldn't get enough.

The story between Shadow and Beauty was very emotional and beautiful. Finally we have a heroine who is something other than a human, she is a Gift of primate nature. I re More...

Just caught on to the New Species books in October and read through all nine in probably less than two weeks. It is just something about the world Dohner's built and the characters she writes that makes me want to devour these books one right after the other. I think the Species male combination of super-hotness mixed with their naivete and baser instincts makes for really great/hot characters.

This book was called Shadow but was really about Beauty a "Gift Species" - a type of human/animal hybri More...

I loved this book! I definitely enjoyed it more than Tiger, and possibly even more tha Justice. So the best, or second best of the series so far. At first, I thought people would try to give them a hard time because she is a Gift. But after that initial mix up, once Beauty told Breeze that she was actually interested in Shadow, everyone did everything possible to help make it work for them. They gave Beauty and Shadow all the time and space they needed to get to know each other. It was so easy f More...

I adore Laurann Dohner! I am amazed at the way this woman can take these male and female characters she has created and bring them together in unique and intriguing ways for every book. Both characters in this book are New Species we have met in previous books but until this book they had never met each other.

Beauty is a Gift Female - an NS female who was created to be small and docile, the exact opposite of the NS females that were found and rescued from the Mercile Labs. These women are rare a More...

Shadow is the newest installment in the New Species world. I fall in love (and in some cases, lust) with all of the hereos in this series. They all have an irresistable quality, different for each male, that makes every one of them vulnerable in some way.
This book opens with what happens in the van after Beauty is rescued in Justice's book, and then jumps right into the story line. There is a beautiful, but heartbreaking, innocence for both Shadow and Beauty in this book (even though both are vi More...
