I loved this book! It was written so well. When I first read what it was going to be about, I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with it. But, it was fantastic. I enjoyed “glimmering” with Paige.

In this book, Paige can find herself living another person’s life just by touching things or doing certain activities. Paige first begins to glimmer when she is in her kitchen. Paige is thrown into Delilah Jones’ life. Paige is taken on a romantic ride through Delilah’s love story with Will Be...more

I received a copy of this book free via a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

First, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

In this book, we follow Paige as she "glimmers" into other peoples lives through an emotional thread left behind in a pair of boots, earrings and even her sisters engagement ring. From the 1980s to the early 19th century, these glimmers help her to understand what is going on in her life. The glimmers that Paige has really draws you into the story and you almost don't...more

What can I say I am a sucker for a good romance story and glimmers is definitely that. Paige is just your ordinary mother, wife, sister and daughter but she has a secret. She has Glimmers of the past from other people. She sees what they have kept as memories and gets to see them first hand. Every time she comes back from one of the Glimmers she keeps a piece of that person. She can't believe what is happening to her and sometimes she really enjoys having the glimmers. The glimmers can come from...more

Three and a half stars: A sweet feel good romance with three stories in one.

Paige is a busy, hardworking mother. Balancing two children, a husband, home and added on top of all that she is helping plan her sister's upcoming wedding. Paige enjoys the few moments she has to herself, like her recent shopping spree to a consignment store. It is Paige's lucky day when she finds a pair of soft suede ankle boots. She snatches them up along with a great pair of jeans. Life is good. Later that day, Paige...more

Once I had read the synopsis for this book I was very intrigued and I have to say this book did not disappoint.

Paige lives an ordinary family life, husband and children then one day something odd happens to her, she feels as if she is transported to somebody else's life, she thinks and feels everything that the other person does and is living their life. This experience has it's positives and negatives and when Paige is transported to her sister's life then things become a bit tricky. Paige's h...more

First of all, I label this as adult as that's what it technically is. But this is a book that would fit into the YA genre fairly well too. The main character is an adult and she is married and has children. But when she has Glimmers and looks into the past, basically just soaks into another persons life in the past, she ends up in a teenagers head. Twice. So when she ends up there it's like the other character is narrating. The voice becomes that other character because that's who Paige has beco...more

My " in a nutshell" summary...

Paige touches an object and sort of becomes that object's owner...learning and sharing and reacting as that person...for awhile.

My thoughts after reading this book...

Hmmm...Paige has the "glimmers". If she slips on boots, a ring, an article of clothing...she sort of becomes the person that the object originally belonged to. She experiences their lives. In this book she buys a pair of vintage boots and becomes Delilah...17 year old madly in lo...more

GLIMMERS by Barbara Brooke

GLIMMERS is the first novel in a new series by Barbara Brooke. Written in the fantasy genre, GLIMMERS follows Paige as she struggles with her new found ability to read memories from the items she touches.

Paige is married, the mother of 2 and living a normal life in the suburbs. Her weakness for consignment goods (ala 1980's ankle boots) will find her locked into the memory of a young woman experiencing her first love and loss, and the heartbreak of knowing she wasn't go...more

Upon entering a goodreads giveaway for this novel, the author kindly got in touch to let me know Glimmers would be available for free on kindle for a short time.
After downloading this book I thought I'd have a brief gander at it to get a feel for their style of storytelling. Well, a couple of pages soon turned into a couple of chapters and I was hooked! I didn't intend to begin a new book (I have another ebook and paperback on the go as it is) but I settled into this cosy book and had devoured...more

Review for Glimmers by Barbara Brooke
*This is a Copy received from Goodreads First Reads for free, (won) Thank you!

I received this book through a contest on Goodreads. I entered because it sounded like an interesting story, and it was something different from the paranormal books I normally read. I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I was excited when I learned that I won, I was excited when I got it in the mail, and now after reading it I’m even more excited to see what Barbara Brooke writes...more

Glimmers, the first of a trilogy of novels by debut author Barbara Brooke, twists women's fiction with the element of time/memory travel.

Paige Mackenzie's life is calm and lovely but missing that bit of passion, of spark. Though she lives the suburban dream (doting husband, nice house, two wonderful kids) she occasional imagines stepping into someone else's shoes for just few hours.

When she finds a pair of 80's suede ankle boots on a thrift store treasure hunt, her life gains some of the spice...more

I got this book as part of a goodreads first reads giveaway and I am so glad I did. This book is about a woman named Paige who is married and is trying to help her little sister plan her wedding. Then one day she starts to get "glimmers" or memories of the past when she wears an item that had strong emotional attachment to the previous owner. She learns about a woman named Delilah when she wears her boots, her sister Hailey when she tries on her engagement ring, and her ancestor Emma when she we...more

Strange things are afoot when Paige suddenly steps back in time and becomes one with the lives of three people. On the surface, Paige seems fairly ordinary – married with two children and a bossy sister who puts on her. But after each journey back, Paige is changed in some way.

The past memories, which she experiences when dealing with an item connected to the person, take her first to the 1980s and Delilah, a young aspiring cook finding a first, and difficult, love. On the second jaunt, Paige is...more

First of all, like I said earlier in the post, although I would classify this book as a New Adult book, I would say it holds YA appeal. There's no explicit or mature content of the source (no sex or swearing, as far as I can remember), but there is some cutesy romance that many YA readers would probably enjoy. The language is also flowy and easy to read, perfect for a weekend read (:

In this book, Paige has "glimmers" into the past, where she...more

LOVED this book, Barbara Brooke takes us on unexpected journeys thru time when with just the touch of an object emotionally attached to the owner our lovely Paige gets a "Glimmer" into someone's life seeing thru their eyes, feeling their emotions.
This all helps Paige improve her life and discover new talents, Her Husband Elliot is delightful, fun, loving and supportive, This book is lighthearted and just a feelgood story. I highly recommend this book if you want to smile :) I give it 5 sparkles....more

While I liked Paige, I didn't love her voice all that much. In fact, my favorite parts of this story are those moments when Paige isn't the main character. When she is getting glimpses into other people's lives.

It was fun seeing where each new “glimmer” from an object Paige had touched would lead her next. Maybe I am reading way too much YA lately but I really enjoyed Delilah and William's love story, it was a sweet one but I must say, my favorite by far was Emma's story. I think the elegance o...more

I love the whole idea of touching something, an antique pin at a flea market or a vintage dress, or an old watch, etc. and being able to *know* things about the previous owners.
I don't think I'm alone in this fascination and it makes for a fantastic story line ... this is the mesmerizing premise behind Glimmers.

Glimmers is a four-in-one story. There is the story of the main character, Paige, a reasonably happily married middle-aged mom, who discovers her ability to *be in* (or transport to) a p...more

Interesting .. glimmers are glimpses into peoples lives when you touch something that belongs to them. Say like you try on a pair of shoes that used to belong to someone else and you get to see a part of their life. In this story, there are a few glimmers that happen to one person and how they all tie together is very interesting and makes a good read and sometimes hilarious. I would recommend it. I like to call this an escape book, a book you can escape into.

I got this as a free book on Amazon. Wasn't thinking to much about it till today when I wanted something upbeat to read. I started it and couldn't put my kindle down. My kids looked at me strange because I cooked dinner while reading. I just wanted to keep reading and know what was happening to Paige. Looking forward to reading Beyond Glimmers. Thank you Barbara for telling me about your great book.

I want to thank the author, Barbara Brooke, for choosing me as a winner of "Glimmers" during her recent book giveaway here at Goodreads.

I have been a long time fan of time travel stories. I especially enjoyed the way the author opened the story with the main character on a shopping spree. I really thought she was shopping until I discovered she was just reliving a recent one while driving her children to school.

The main character is young, married and has two small children. She has "glimmers" w...more

This was an interesting first novel from author Barbara Brooke. I found the story entertaining yet I definitely felt it needed more development.

While I enjoyed the first and last Glimmer stories, I also felt that both needed more detail and development. For example, I wanted to know more about the courtship between Delilah and William and the narrative jumped from their first weeks together to the end of the summer without any detail. I think this story alone would have made a great novel in and...more

I really enjoyed this, both the idea and the story itself. It's about a girl who can suddenly see into the lives of people who've previously owned an item she picks up. Not all the time but it just happens when she least expects it. It then goes into the lives of these other women in detail and it's really interesting. An American girl in the 80's, an English girl in the 1800's are just two so it's a nice and varied read too and you get to know those characters.
I really liked the ending and hop...more

Sometimes I feel like three women at once and I have "glimmers" but not the same kind. I liked reading this book and imagining what it would be like to have life interupted and find yourself in someone else's shoes.

I was lucky enough to receive Glimmers through a Good Read First Read giveaway. I found it to be a sweet summer read. The concept of glimmering is a great device Barbara Brooke uses to weave multiple stories into one cohesive plot. Though I am not usually a fan of Hollywood endings, I found I was hoping for exactly that as I reached the final chapters. I also appreciated that it was a captivating adult romance that I could share with my teenager and my mother without hesitation.
