Pretty Tilt examines sex, feminism and gender roles through the lens of early-21st century girlhood. Influenced by both the Gurlesque and by post-confessionalism, these poems focus an unflinching eye on the strange, ugly, and beautiful paradoxes of growing up female.

I liked this poetry collection a lot, but in the absence of the will to write about it, I'll direct you to "Just The Tip"--which I wrote about on Structure and Style.

Sprinkled with cultural ephemera and relentlessly self-aware, Pretty Tilt is a beautifully weird and delightfully inappropriate collection of poems luxuriating in the Gurlesque. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful book of poetry. Murphy is particularly adept at capturing girlhood, the intensity and beauty of it. Pretty Tilt is a wonderfully written, deeply memorable collection of poetry.
