In the streets of Chicago exists an uneasy, centuries-old truce between vampires and their distant cousins, a race of shifters called drecks. Vampire enforcement agency, All the King’s Men (AKM), is charged with maintaining the truce, but when volatile enforcer Micah Black loses his mate and falls into the biological agony that results from the broken bond, he tests the bo ...more

Micah's Anguish is Sweetly written and Unforgettable~

OMG, What I loved~
The world building.
The diversity.
The Plot...The anguish and no angst, gosh I needed that.
The Writting and The Pace of it all~

oOh, and I must say this, but, I consider a spoiler so you'll have to open the spoiler to find out more goodie's~and if you don't... than just know this~ (view spoiler)
Got it as a freebie.

Micah is a vampire whose most recent mate, Jackson, left him. Vampires apparently can't deal well when that happens, and they want to die. When Micah provokes a group of his enemies (to kill him because he's so miserable), Samantha Garrett shows up and rescues him. And within 24 hours, Micah knows that Sam is his new mate, and pretty much they get down to business with no real conflict. Yup. I mean. Sam just kind of shrugs and thinks, 'Vampire? They're real? Okay. He's hot,

What a start to a great new series.........LOVED. IT.:):)

The story had me engrossed from the start, couldn't put it down until finished.......5am in the morning!!!!! Good job it was Sunday so I could have a lie in.

Great characters who will hopefully go on to have their own books....can't wait. Please don't leave it too long before the next book.
Does anyone else want to punch Jackson in the face? Or am I the only one?

I can’t believe that I let this book sit in my kindle for over 18 months without reading it. I really liked it which means that I have been sucked into yet another series that I want/need to finish. Oh Micah…he is everything that I would want in my own alpha hero. He’s a badass who’s rough around the edges, but a loving sweetheart to the one he loves. The plot was great and the author does a great job setting up this world
I really loved this book. It is PNR and it has traits that reminds of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But let's face it - it is not BDB. So much said at the beginning. And that is good because these books are already getting written by Mrs. Ward. Donya Lynne creates another world - not as absolute as BDB. Her characters have different abilities. For example: Yes, we find "mating" and "bonding", but it must not be unbreakable. Some of the vampires are able to walk outside during the days (due to th ...more

12/28/2012 -- 3.5 Stars [extra credit for being a Freebie, I'd say 2.5 without the extra credit].

I liked it, didn't love it. It could have been so much better. The author couldn't seem to decide which path to follow so in the end, it resembled a messy stew. Too many characters, too many components, not enough depth in any one of them. Some really good elements in the story, some likeable characters, but seemed to lack focus.

I think this author has potential, so may try another one or two to see.
Alright, first of all there were things that just convoluted the crap out of this story. Certain issues are revealed but not explained, the whole vampire/dreg/day walker whatever, I felt like I missed something. I felt like a couple pages were missing. Another thing that bugged me was how Sam reacted to Micah being a vampire, I mean there really was no thought process on her trying to reason it out what Micah was and how that really was going to affect her. I guess she was so tough that it didn' ...more
This book is amazing. It held my attention and didn't let go. There have only been a few books that I became so engrossed in that just the emotion from it made me want to cry. This book did that and more.
Micah and Sam's chemistry melted the book pages, and it didn't feel forced at all. The characters are believable and I like the enemy's too. How often does that happen, and when I say I like them, I mean I like their uniqueness.
All the men of the AKM (All the Kings Men) are absolutely scrumpti
3.5 stars

A quick and enjoyable read, in which the author, created an interesting vampire world. Some reviews for this book have compared it to BDB. I can see where there may be some similarities. Such as...this group of vampires are enforcers, who work for their king and they are hated by another immortal group, known as drecks. I didn’t mind as I thought the story stood on its own. The only thing that bugged me was the insta love for the hero, Micah. The story starts out with him trying to self
Loved, loved, loved this book. Micah, Trace, Sam...loved them! Boo to Jackson! Seriously, read the book.
Broken hearts. Broken souls. Pieces surge together.
Micah is broken. An empty shell clinging to life, yet he is begging for death.
He lost his mate, and it’s not the first time. When vampires mate, there is no Judge Judy or Divorce court. It cleaves your soul in half, tears you to pieces if your mate is lost. Micah barely held on after the death of his wife, and centuries later he thought he was blessed with a second chance; Jackson. A mere matter of days after his bonding with Jack, he left him
Micah is a very ALPHA vampire Sigh...

Samantha human his Hero Sigh...

I did not want to put this book down.

Though M/F and a sweet treat I of M/M... Note: A totally enjoyable read!
I was disappointed in this book. I liked the beginning - the characters and the world they live in. By the end I decided this book was all sex and no story. I understand the trend towards more graphic sex, but the story suffers. There wasn't enough about the vampires and the lives they lived. I went back and read reviews after I finished the book and see that some reviewers were put off by the homosexual elements. That wasn't a problem for me, in fact those two males characters interested me a l ...more

I hardly ever give a book five stars, but this was a rare story, I just couldn't put down. This author has taken a way over populated paranormal genre and brought us something different. Her characters are strong, yet troubled. You have no problem relating the their emotions and it's nice to see something where a vampire's life is not perfect. Rise of the fallen gave me what many of the mainstream authors I have loved for years have started failing to give. Where they have left me wishing for mo ...more
What a wonderfully awesome story!!! The heat between the two main characters is flammable!!!
I will never get tired of Vampires. EVER. I love how authors will write about the old known legends of Vampires and add twists and turns to them. Sometimes they give them more powers, less powers, more human qualities, less human qualities...but they normally do not have an evil counterpart known as a Dreck. Yes, you heard me right...A DRECK.

I loved this book! LOVED LOVED LOVED IT! From the first page, Donya Lynne sucked me into the world of Micah Black (hello yum) and his supernatural lifestyl

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

Generally I don't like to do the comparison thing, but I feel like I sort of have to here so people get a bit of a feel of what they'll be jumping into. ALL THE KINGS MEN is sort of like a subset of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, meets Alpha Pack, meets Brotherhood of Blood.

All the Kings Men is a group of warriors trained to fight rogue shapeshifters and other problematic preternaturals.

Micah is one of the strongest on the team,

This book has plenty of erotic sex including some m/m action so I just wanted to put it out there.

So Micah is a damaged vampire who lost his mate in the early part of his vampirism. He finally found someone to replace her in Jackson however Jackson was just to self-absorbed to be anyone's mate so Micah lost him too. As he is in the deppest part of depression he finds enemies to have him killed until a pretty woman rescues him (Sam).

That is the foundation of this story. I thought it sounded very

Well, I have to say I was drawn in by the writing. The writing & the description was great, but I was totally turned off as soon as they opened their mouthes. The conversations seemed over the top cheesy. It's like watching a beautiful man & woman & then they talk with the voices of minnie & Mickey Mouse.

Him "You're a runner or a swimmer aren't you?" (Conversation while attempting to get it on) Her "Both. How can you tell?" him grinning "I can tell." (What exactly is he describi

Micah & Samantha

Okay first and foremost, I've read this book on a recommendation from my friend Kathryn. We both love with our entire beings, The Black Dagger Brotherhood series so when she told me to give this a try, I was oh so excited! Although I believe the only thing this story and the BDB having common is the fact that we're reading about vampires. It's a totally different set up and a tot

Micah is such a tortured soul and Sam is trying to escape an abusive marriage. It was so great watch their relationship develop and help to save them both. Also really enjoyed the other characters. It definitely grabbed ur interest and didn't let go. A very hot read with erotic scenes with both m/f and m/m
Good book. :)) Action and love, and well written, what more can one want from a book. :))

This is not just another vampire book. Once again, a book with very strong leading characters!!! Love it!!! You meet Micah, who is a vampire member of an oranization called All the Kings Men. They are sworn to protect mankind and maintain peace between vampires and their cousin the Drecks. When you meet Micah, he is in a very bad way. He has a death wish because he has lost his mate, Jackson. Jackson left him. So Micah enlists the help of a Dreck clan to kill him. In walks Sam, very human and vu ...more
Rise of the fallen book 1

I really liked the characters. Micah is irascible, unstable and gnarly, a complex vampire.. He is coming down off a failed relationship with suicidal tendencies. Sam is hiding and on the run from her ex and surviving as a exotic dancer.
They seemed to be believable and each have unique personalities, I liked the big group of secondary characters, such as Trace, Serverin, Malek, and Tristan with huge potential for awesome stories. It did have a similar theme to some other s

I want to say first that it was a decent enough read. My only problem is it read like fan fiction of J.R. Ward's BDB. I don't have a problem with fan fiction in general, but that's what this story came off as.
Now to the story itself, I'm still a bit confused as to what the AKM are really doing. I understand they keep the drecks in line, but there was no real detail (through showing) of the drecks being a problem to anyone other than the vampires. I also don't understand the power structure. They
This is probably more of a 3 1/2 stars for me. There's a lot of potential here and I'm really intrigued by the world. I would have loved to see more world building though. I often felt like this book skimmed over the details of the world and focused only on the relationship between the MC's. I really liked all the secondary characters and I'm really intrigued by Trace. Can't wait to find out more about him!

Sam and Micah's story was great. He is lost in the bowels of his pain and she's on the run

Rise of the Fallen (AKM, #1) by Donya Lynne Rise of the Fallen by Donya Lynne was a good start to what I'm sure will prove to be a very good series!

Here is my overall ratings for aspects of this book:
Ease of Readability - 8/10 I found this book pretty easy to read but periodically had trouble with POV changes which were sometimes a quick flip from one to another and back again.
World Explanation - 6/10 This is one Aspect of the book that I felt the author neglected until pretty far into the book (like maybe two thi

This book only got a 4 because of the major hotness going on. Great character buildup and that part gets a 5, otherwise there were some parts that I would give a 3. Get it? 4...5...3 that's how this book went for me!!

Micah is a vampire and he is on the verge of suicide basically. He like to cut himself and feel pain it's the only way he can live with himself. This storyline was a 5 as was The Ari Sev storyline 555!!

Micah meets Sam and they hit it off she is strong and saves him literally from h

If you want a great start to a series with Micah a tortured, grumpy bad ass Alpha THEN this is the book for you!!!!

Micah is an enforcer for the AKM (All Kings Men) he keeps to himself has no respect for his superiors does what he wants and is hot!!!
Since losing his mate (Jackson) or was his mate he has been on a downward spiral leading him in the end to take drastic measures.

Tidbit in between the Vampires enforce some humans and the drecks which are their enemies although the war has been over
