First of all this was not what I expected, but the story turned up quite intriguing nonetheless! I expected unrequited love, but not Ben’s kink or Calvins determination to get to know Ben.

I’m still not sure what to think of Calvin, mainly because he asked Ben out every Friday for a month! While he gets points for being persistent, that’s a bit stalkerish, especially his behavior in the park. No, I will not tell you what happens, where would be the fun in that? ;)

Ben usually brushes of the advances, because he had a really bad break up with his partner of 8 years, so one can understand that he is reticent, after being betrayed. Mostly Ben is really lonely or at least that how I see him and his ex’s betrayal had cost him a lot, like his belief in honesty of other people.

The first part of the story did not draw me in, it was confusing and I was wondering why Calvin was so set on another date with Ben. The story is told from Ben’s perspective so there are no clues to Calvin’s motivation. Also I’m not sure why Ben gave in to Calvin after their meeting in the park, where Calvin catches Ben in a compromising situation and uses this to get what he wants. The good part comes after Ben gives in and agrees to spend the weekend with Calvin, experiencing, what Calvin is all about.

Why is this book worth losing 3.5 pants?

For one, the sex scenes are seriously hot! The guys click over Ben’s kink (Ben likes to watch people have sex) and so Calvin indulges him by using a webcam and by letting Ben watch him having sex with Ben. Secondly the sex scenes are well written and not mechanical, bonus points and pants for that!

The story itself is well written and after the first part, I actually did get to know the characters more and would have liked the book to have a few more pages, to see how they fare together. While this is not a book with a lot of depth, the story and characters are entertaining.

I liked that it was not instant love, not even instant attraction. It takes Ben some time and some interference from Calvin, to give them as a potential couple a second chance. After initial reticence Ben gets to know Calvin, through his hobbies and friends. The everyday life things, people do together, are not just glossed over. At the end of the story, I could believe there was a reason why Ben and Calvin worked as a couple. Actually that is the part I liked best. The author managed to create a believable romance about everyday life on 45 pages (at least on my ereader they are 45). (less)

It is the end of the workday on Friday and all of Ben's coworkers are leaving the workplace. As usual, Calvin has come to ask him out again… and Ben will turn him down again. Calvin doesn't seem to get the message, and even remains upbeat and positive when Ben tells him, frankly, that he will not go on another date with him. The first did not go well, and Ben does not want to go through another night of absolute boredom, talking about baseball and hiking (which he isn't remotely interested in). So, why would he go out with Calvin again? Even if his clothes are harboring a ruggedly built body and he won't seem to give up.

But, after a surprising and very awkward meeting in the park where Calvin seems like a whole different person, Ben is swept along into an evening that surprises him and keeps him on his toes. And when Calvin next asks him for a date, Ben just might have to say yes.

This story started out quite strange. I didn't really get the feel for it, or the characters at first. Calvin is a bit of an enigma, but seen through Ben's eyes this makes sense later in the story. Ben is very tightly wound, and almost seems prudish at times. Though his sexual desires are not, his behavior towards life is so highly strung and vulnerable, that it takes numerous small chinks in his armor for Calvin to break inside and find out who he really is. Once I started to understand Ben, through Ben getting to know the real Calvin and not the first-date, trying-to-impress Calvin, it made sense that Ben would think that Calvin is the boring one, all while Calvin seems to have seen right through the rather plain and boring facade that Ben puts out to the world.

This was all expressed rather nicely through the sexual kink they explore. It is the catalyst and the motivator to the relationship until Ben allows himself to actually get to know Calvin. I won't go into what that is, specifically, because I liked not knowing what this story was really about, but the fact that Ben is a voyeur says quite a bit about the man he's become in his quest to remain jaded and overly cautious in dating.

As the story ended, I really appreciated the effort the author used to explore the relationship and the characters. It is what didn't make sense to me at first but later made all the sense in the world, and by that point I really liked both of these guys together and had high hopes for their future together.

I have only read a few things by this author, but I have come to enjoy her work and am very much looking forward to what she writes in the future!(less)

Casual (Sex) Friday has been waiting since February 2011 to be put into the world, and I'm so very excited its time has come. It's a little story about Ben and Calvin. Ben, poor Ben, is just a little jaded when it comes to relationships, thinks everyone is a faker, and thinks sex is the only honesty in relationships. In other words, he has issues with dating. And then we have Calvin, poor Calvin, who just wants Ben to give him a chance... err, 2nd chance. Immovable object meet unstoppable force!...more

I wavered between a 3 and 4 rating for this book. Ben would get a 3, but Calvin a 4. I just have no idea why Calvin was so adamant in wanting Ben, who really was kind of a jerk to him for a long time. Well, what he seems to be is shallow. He doesn’t think Calvin dresses well, and the one date he consented to was boring. I’m not sure why he doesn’t realize he was half of that date!

This story took off in a whole other direction than I anticipated. I liked that it had some interesting surprises. I really liked Calvin. Ben has extreme trust issues and luckily Calvin is persistent!

This is my first Evie Kiels story, but it won't be my last.

I loved this story -- Ben is all fed up and single, and Calvin, who ends up sweeping him off his feet in a VERY unorthodox and SEXY way, is so sweet! The story has an element of reality to it, if slightly 'unusual' to the norm.

A breath of fresh air to read.
