Ramen Noodles the staple of college students everywhere. After the age of 17 I refused to eat them. I haven't eaten them since. My college friends were baffled by my extreme dislike of ramen noodles. Tiffany King gets it though.
"I made sure to scoop up a dozen packages of Top O' Ramen soup for Kevin and me. At twenty cents a package, it was a cheap staple item for us. We didn't always have a means to cook them so we would crunch the package up, pour the seasoning mix into the bag of broken piec...more

Wishing For Someday Soon by Tiffany King was a pretty intense read for me. My heart was literally torn apart before being put back together once again. Ms. King gives us a heartbreaking story about the hardships of one young girl's existence, and her harsh determination to protect her brother from their abusive and selfish mother and the ugliness of their poor life. What a plethora of emotions I experienced. This beautiful and very raw novel had me cringing at times and then I would go from cryi...more
Katelyn and her brother Kevin have endured many years of abuse by their chain-smoking, abusive mother Lucinda. How long they lived in one town depended on what man Lucinda had hooked up with and on what bills she was skipping out on. By the time they arrive in a Four Corners, Montana trailer park, they have a string of addresses behind them: shelters, projects, rundown motels and apartments. It is Katelyn's plan to hold on until she turns eighteen, when she can legally wrest her younger brother...more

Wishing someday soon Tiffany King writes more for these characters!!!
I loved all of the characters and especially the writing. There is so much more to tell and I’m willing to beg Tiffany King to write another book.
As for the story, Katelyn is a seventeen year old big sister who cares for and protects her nine year old brother Kevin from their abusive and useless mother Lucinda. They are constantly moving, living in shelters and dealing with a long line of stepfathers. Katelyn is...more

"Katelyn, you won't ever leave me behind with her, right?"
"No, buddy. I won't ever leave you alone. How could I? We're waiting for our someday soon, right?" I asked gently.
First off, this novel is wonderfully crafted and utterly breathtaking. It's as beautiful as it is nerve-racking. I loved how the words roll off in each long-winded sentences, relishing every heart-stopping second of it, leaving me breathless as the anticipation of the events consumed me and I could not stop the onslaught o...more

First off, I would like to thank the author for the review copy!
"Wishing For Someday Soon" was a sweet novel about the hardships of one young girl's existence, and her harsh determination to protect her brother from the ugliness of their poor life, and their abusive mother. Do you ever read a book and it completely takes you back to a moment in your life? Maybe the circumstances are not the same, or perhaps they are, or perhaps it's the actions of people, good or bad, that totally transports you back to a moment that forever changed your life. Wishing for Someday Soon is a heartbreaking and inspiring story about seventeen year old Katelyn Richards' fate in the hands of her abusive mother and her strings of never ending issues. All her life she continues to wait for her 'Someday Soon' where there will be no more worrying about when they'll eat again or where their next stop will be, no more deadpan stepfathers, and no more beating from her own mother. Katelyn stays strong amidst all circumstances and relies on no one but herself to con...more
As self published novels go, this one is definitely on the upper end of the spectrum, however, it was missing key plot elements that could've made it spectacular.
Just 6 months and Katelyn Richards will be 18. Then, she can get out from underneath her abusive mother and her endless string of deadbeat boyfriends, she can petition the courts for custody of her younger brother, she'll never have to worry about her food money being spent on cigarettes. Until then, she has to keep the severity and tra...more

Where do I begin? I now realize I have been reading way too many drama-filled, waiting-for-the-stuff-to-hit-the-fan books. Every time I turned the page, I waited for the bottom to fall out (which literally happened in their mother's car).
While the story lacked major drama on every page, what I did find was a heart-wrenching, anger-inducing story of a young girl doing everything she can to take care of her little brother, surviving her mother's wrath just to get them to their "someday soon" fant...more

Max - “I promise to protect you from any more harm, and I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure you get your 'someday soon'.”
Katelyn and her brother Kevin know their irresponsible mother, Lucinda, pretty well. Despite their dire predictions about their mother's uprooting, the siblings are happy to enjoy luxury amenities like a private bathroom and a tv. Katelyn has done a good job of adapting to her mother's tyranny and lifestyle. She knows how to tiptoe around her mother's mods...more

This book was good and sad, and it brought tears to my eyes. If you liked Reason to Breathe or Heart on a Chain, I'm sure you'll like this book as well. There are similar parts, but it's different in its own way as well.
This is a story of abuse, hope, and love. Katelyn and her brother Kevin have been living with their abusive mother and her mother's different boyfriends for years. They're always moving around and haven't stayed in a place for long. They move to a small secluded town where Katel...more

wow, this a really hard, happy-yet-sad kind of read. its nice how everything worked out for katelyn in the end especially since she deserved it. she's so freaking brave, strong, compassionate and loyal. after reading this book you just can't but admire her can you?

First off, let me say this is one of my favorite books of the year so far.
It didn't take very long for me to start ugly crying. It started out rough to read for me, as in it was hard and agonizing for the characters. I'm not usually a person who reads a lot of contemporary because all the problems are so real and it's just hard because I make everything personal in my head. Paranormal is my normal. I was hooked because the girl is so awesome to read about, and the guy, Max, is literally the best...more

Tiffany King writes with such real characters that I spent the last half of this book with tears coursing down my cheeks as I read through them. I felt like I was Katelyn Richards, living through her journey of one home after another, searching for the Someday Soon she continuously promised her younger brother, Kevin. What Katelyn finds is her own version of the happiness she never thought possible. I laughed as well as cried, able to understand the overwhelming feelings Kate felt when others, p...more

A lovely story of hope and love in the face of abuse, of the depths of love a sister would go through to protect her brother, and of the support and care that can be found from those around you, if you're only willing to open yourself up and allow love in.

My Summary
High school senior, Katelyn, has endured more pain in her short life than anybody should have to.
She has moved about 20 times since the 5th grade... Her mother seems to think that the "grass is greener on the other side"... Her mom also had a problem with her temper and Katelyn has to endure the "wrath" of her mother when she gets angry.
Katelyn has kept this hidden from everybody. She is scared that if anybody found out, that her and her brother,...more

There’s just something about the way Tiffany King writes that always takes a hold of and captures me from start to finish. When I first read her first series, The Saving Angels, I was immediately in love with her lyrical composition and Wishing for Someday Soon is no different.
Ms. King weaves not only a heart-breaking but a heart-warming tale of young love, betrayal and learning to trust again; she not only focuses on romance but also on the love of brother and sister and just ho...more

At first you'd think the story is cute and understandable, but as I went on I realized that everything about Wishing Someday Soon is dumb. The logic of this book is- no wait there's no logic in here. Seriously. This book makes you an idiot. The characters' situations were like forced in them just so you can say that the outcome is okay or understandable. Like the misfortune of Lucinda's children. I can't believe a mother like Lucinda was able to escape such wrong doings. I mean, isn't...more

Wow. Just wow. I don’t know if I can stop crying long enough to write this review. Wishing For Someday soon was so beautifully written. It had me laughing one minute, then crying the next.
Katelynn is probably the strongest (emotionally speaking) character I’ve ever read about. She’s had to deal with an abusive mom who definitely doesn’t care about anyone but herself. On top of that she practically raised her little brother. It was no surprise that her brother looked up to her. I would look up to...more

This was a great book. The characters felt so real to me, I loved reading about them. Katelyn was so brave given her situation, I couldn't believe how well she handled the emotional and physical abuse. The sad thing is, there are really losers out there like Lucinda who do this crap to their poor kids. It is a sobering thought!! I loved little Kevin and was so sad at the end when he was brought into the madness but he was such a sweet, loving kid and I love knowing that he will be loved and take...more
King’s latest novel will leave readers feeling open and raw; this gritty tale of life, love, and abuse is so gripping and touching, it’s impossible to put down. Though gut wrenching and heartbreaking, Wishing for Someday Soon is a must read, a story of love and redemption that, with its vivid characters and hellacious circumstances, urges the reader to turn the pages as this fictitious story brings real tears to the eyes.

Summary:
Katelyn Richards has had a very tough life. She's lived in so many places that she's lost track, has an abusive mother, and is trying to keep her little brother safe. She has dreams of making a better life for the two of them and hopes they can get to their someday sooner rather than later.
Once again, her mother has moved them to a small town in Montana. There Katelyn meets Max, who is from one of the wealthier families in town. Their lives couldn't be more different. Katelyn has always...more

This book really blew me away. There were so many pieces of this book that not only drew me in to it, but it almost didn’t let me leave in the end. Tiffany King weaves a beautiful story of hope around one of the ugliest aspects of the human experience.

This book was awesome! This book is kinda similar to Reason To Breathe & Heart on a Chain, but yet different at the same time. I really like how protective Katelyn was over Kevin. I could feel the love she has for him and how important he was to her. Kevin was just a sweet and really thoughtful and smart kid. Their relationship and bond was one great thing about this book. Seeing how close they were. Max was such a nice & sweet guy. I really liked him as well. And all the other character...more
I don't often read books without any sort of paranormal/mystical/magical element, but I thought I'd enjoy "Wishing for Someday Soon" considering that it ran along the lines of my Helping Hands series. I was right - this is one of the best books I've read in awhile.
I think it's hard to write in first person in a way that really draws in the reader without making it overly drawn out and convoluted, but King really pulls it off. We, as readers, are drawn into Katelyn's story and feel what she feel...more

Cada situación de mierda que has tenido que superar te trajo hasta aquí. Nunca he sentido esto por nadie, y es porque he estado esperando por ti, no lo sabía hasta que llegaste aquí.”
