"Sometimes there are only two choices. Love...or leave. "

Jacob James falls for Rodney the moment the New York City cop crash lands into his far-too-predictable ranch life. The sexy city slicker is everything a lonely Wyoming cowboy could ever dream of. When Rodney is shot in the line of duty, however, their off-the-charts attraction turns unexpectedly cool. Jacob offers th...more

(view spoiler)[ I am giving the author the benefit of the doubt, since I haven't read the first 2 books I went with the assumption that Rod and Jacob developed a deep friendship over the last 6 months.
That said, they have sex and 12 hours later Jacob is inviting himself along to NY to live with Rodney.
Add to that the fact that they have sex without a condom, only saying 'oh by the way, I'm clean' really ripped me out of the story. But, kudos to the author for not falling into the obligatory ' oh

This shorty has only 49 pages with solid text. In a sense everything was missing. Where is the whole story? We have been informed about Rodney's journey through months of grueling physical therapy and Jacobs silent support and friendship. But come on, where is this part? As a reader, I wanted to be there too, feel Rodney's frustration, anger, not only getting an updated information what did Rodney achieved. It was boring.
Here we have only one night of madly sex between Jacob and Rodney. That's...more

I’ve enjoyed Mari Carr’s “Because” series and I won’t lie; I’ve been waiting for Jacob and Rodney’s story. I wasn’t even sure it was in the plans, but I hoped all during the second book, Because You Love Me, that Jake and Rodney would wind up together and Mari would tell their story. I’m glad she did and it was well worth the wait.

Jacob (Jake) is the youngest of the James’ brothers. Unlike his brothers he doesn’t care for ranch work, doesn’t like the grea...more

When Rodney is shot trying to save his friend, he ends up taking an extended medical leave from his job as a city police officer and stays on a ranch where he met Jacob. He’s unsure if he’ll be able to work again and that has had him feeling sorry for himself.

Jacob has been there for Rodney as his friend because that’s what Rodney needed him to be, but he’s been secretly in love with Rodney since they met months ago.

Now that Rodney has gotten a clean bill of health and an Okay to go back to work...more

To say I'm a Mari Carr fan would be an understatement. This book was just another work of art by her. I have loved Jacob since book one, and Rodney grabbed my heart in the second book!

This book opens up with Rodney being released from his physical therapist. He can now go back to New York and be a cop again, BUT he has these strong feelings for Jake that he can't ignore.

Jake has decided he is tired of playing it safe, and he is going to get his man, even if it is just for the night. And ohh wh...more

The "Because" series is absolutely wonderful and it just got even more so!!!

We have been waiting for Jacob's and Rodney's story, at least I have. From the moment they met you could just feel their chemistry. They have both been dancing around their feelings for each other and it all comes to an exciting boiling point at Jacob's annual party. I think starting out friend really helped set their story and all that Rodney went through being shot and his recovery. All that happen made their story and...more

I was very lucky to be able to read an ARC of this story. Read alone,, it was a great m/m romance, especially as a first attempt by the author. I would have thought she had written this genre before! As the 3rd book in the series, this was even better. Seeing Rodney and Jacob get their happy ending, along with catching up the rest of the James family, was great!! Perfect ending to an amazing series!!

I hope Mari keeps the m/m books coming!

I must admit *blushingly* that I didn't know this was part of a series prior to reading so I went in blind so to speak. Thankfully I came out as a very interested reader in what the other books reveal and plan to pursue them ;) This one is a quick read but there is HOT M/M action as well as emotions and interactions that pull you in and have you rooting for Jacob & Rodney! There's fun, family, excitement and hot sex what more could you ask for.

I very much enjoyed this short story and I'm very glad it got told. I now feel a need to revisit the rest of the series…

basically a tying up of loose ends. Wouldn't really work as a stand alone... fortunately it doesn't need to.

A short story, which missed its mark. Most of the story is missing, more tell than feel. Rodney's emotions as gets back on his feet, his therapy, thoughts and struggles are never really explored. It's an okay read.

Not bad, but way too short. These two could have had a more in depth story. Interesting that the interracial thing never came up and everything seemed too easy.

Bland and predictable

Writing a book was number one on Mari Carr’s bucket list and on her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Five years later, her computer is jammed full of stories — novels, novellas, short stories and dead-ends and six of her books have been published.

High school librarian by day and mother of two busy teenagers, Mari Carr found time for writing by squeezing it into the ho...more
