WOW, this book was amazing; Jessica has done it again, created a great story, which puts you on the edge of your seat! I stayed up half the night to finish this, I could not stop. I had to know what happened next. This book has a broken family, betrayal, impossible love triangle, (but not really in the way you think) and trying to guess who or what anyone is, is hard, you will be wrong!

    In this book, Ember...more

When I picked this book up on a recommendation I was not sure I will like it, because it involves elements I am not drawn to in a book: it is YA, which means it is light on the romance and it is about a girl who is in high-school. Those 2 things usually are a no for me, because since I left high-school I do not think I want to revisit all the messed up adolescent drama.

Another drawback was the cover - it looks very amateurish and it looks like a porcelain doll some high school students drew with...more

I received an ARC ecopy of this book for participating in the blog tour this month. I will give an honest review which is in now way influenced by receiving a free copy of this book. I want to than Jessica and SupaGurl Tours for providing me with a copy.

I will be honest and say that I actually read the blurb for this one when I first added it to my TBR (which was way before I was asked to participate in the blog tour). I rarely read the blurb, but the cover just looked to good to pass up and I n...more

Wow.....The concept of this storyline was amazing. Having the main character being able to see when death will happen, I have to say Jessica, awesome idea. Jessica's series are always a breath of fresh air from the familiarity of other authors. She has a great presence in her writing and it makes you feel like you are really there with the characters. I loved her Fallen Stars Series and this series just goes to show what a versatile and imaginative writer that Jessica is. Another amazing book, J...more

I found this on amazon for free and said "Hey! Another book by Jessica!" So I got it.

I really don't know what to say because I am just soooo mind blown.

I really liked Ember. Although there were a few times where I thought she could give Raven a piece of her mind. She's quiet, and sometimes her quietness got a little annoying. At certain parts of the book I was screaming at her to say something. She's way too nice for her own good, something I can relate to.

Raven was a little on the wild side....more

    wow. This book is Terrible.
Hate the main character. Are all teens ADD now? Her life is too messed up to believe, she sees people's deaths, and yet she is mainly concerned with whether or not she should go on a date with either of the two new boys in her class. Oh, not to mention her car gets run off the road into a lake and she doesn't even seem to mind. Plus her best friend seems to be losing her mind recently, but yeah sure let's go to another party. or wait, let me write terrible poetry on my...more

I was captivated by the dark undercurrent of the book. It literally had me hanging off the edge of my seat (and possibly a little talking...erm...I mean screaming at my Kindle) I'm a HUGE fan of Jessica's other series (Fallen Star, Fallen Souls, Darkness Falls; Let's face it I'm a JESSICA JUNKIE) however, this series takes the cake. (and the ice cream- yeah, it's THAT GOOD) 'Ember' had me so twisted, I couldn't decide who to trust or who the 'bad or good guy' was because well, Asher and Cameron...more

Ember was a creative story. I really liked the idea of the usual battle between “good” and “evil” being applied to Angels of Death and Grim Reapers and all other ramifications and decisions catapulted by this battle. The book was easy to read and the pace was neither fast nor slow, which fit this story perfectly. It also did a good job at keeping you guessing who was who/what in it. There were a few times when I didn’t know myself and that doe...more

I am confused, dumbfounded and breathless.
This was one hell of a story. Creative, dark, emotional.

Ember, a girl that can see people's death by touching them has her life thrown upside down when two boys come into her life, Asher and Cameron. Things get confusing and dangerous as she realizes that things are not what they seem.

This was a gripping tale. Absolutely addictive. There was just no way of knowing what will happen next. Jessica Sorenson kept the suspense level on life-threatening high...more

    but yeah I LOVE iT

i love this poem in the book :)
" The ember dies slowly in a mound of ash .
darkness and mourning, it longs to burn fire . but the
smoke and sorrow let it die .
the need for a spark asserts fiercely. but
a spark won't surrender. So the ember continues
to smother. Into ash, into dust, into nothing.
And that's how it will stay forever. "

for me it sounds like a prophecy
    directing to ember herself :)

Much like the original story with the review... but, the "hot" scenes... oh wow!

I really enjoyed re-reading this book with its minor changes. Everyone is more grown up in this story, but not much else has changed. I will say that it has grown the flame that makes me desperate for the next book! When? When is it coming out!?!

Jessica Sorensen has wowed me from the moment I first picked up The Fallen Star and continued to keep me reading all through that series. So, when I had the opportunity to read the newly updated adult paranormal version of the first in her Death Collectors series I was more than excited – and she didn’t let me down.
Ember (the titular character) has always had an affinity with death. Since childhood she has been able to see how each person she touches will die. Suffice it to say she doesn’t like...more

I have to admit, even when I reached the end of the book, I felt slightly confused. Perhaps it's me. Or it could be that there was just too much information cramped towards the end of the book that I couldn't quite absorb it.

So, there's Ember - who can sense how people will die when she touches them.
There's Asher - mysterious boy who rescued her from drowning.
There's Cameron - another mysterious boy who she bumped into at the cemetary.

First I want to say that I loved this story. I had to look past the terrible stereotyping and the horribly poetic prose but I loved the plot and the way the story was mapped out. I thought Asher was hot, hot, hot. I thought that showing the way Ember was torn between Asher and Cameron wasn't a terribly annoying love triangle like so many triangles are. I wanted to know if Ember's had any sense of self respect where Raven was concerned and why she let the bitch push and pull her all around just l...more

Couldn't finish this one. I thought it was badly written almost as if the author had rushed through it. It had a very overdone, melodramatic, and juvenile feel to it. Not something I was looking for.

A lot of the language and dialogue was extremely fanciful. Not to mention, it was all about the raven. Ravens abounded. They were everywhere. Not only as a reference to the actual bird, but as the name of Ember's friend; it was also used as a descriptor. There were a lot of raven feathers, too.

Poor Ember does not have an easy life. For some unexplained reason, she can see death. With nothing more than a brush against a person, she knows how they will die. Naturally, she tends to stay away from everyone - except her oldest (and only) friend Raven. The only person with whom Ember has shared her secret.

Until she meets Asher. He's the completely gorgeous (yet mysterious) new guy in town, and for some reason, Ember can't sense death from him. Because of this, she finds herself gravitating...more

I super liked this! I didn't want to stop reading it and I'm dying to get a hold of the next one! First, I liked the whole premise, it was DIFFERENT! Sometimes after reading a lot, I get to feeling like I'm reading different versions of the same book, or at least a story that's not too original, not that I don't enjoy them...bla, anyway, this was a different story and I liked it. There were times when I was kinda like...maybe the girls need to refocus on what's really important, but overall I re...more

Jessica does it again with a fresh new series! I could not wait to get my hands on this book, everything about it screamed read me, the cover and description draw you right in and you want to pick it up.

Ember can tell when someone is going to die, which makes it hard to hand friends and anyone she can be close to. Asher comes into her life and when she touches him she doesn't see death, she sees nothing which makes him even more interesting. Everything about him is mysterious, dangerous but you...more

This is one of the books!!! You are unsure of it and start reading and the writing style and concept sucks you in so completely that you literally can't put it down. I started it last night and finished this morning.

Ember is a very unique and special human being and she doesn't really know it, all she knows is she's cursed, everyone in town hates her with the exception of her best friend Raven and her brother Ian.

When two new kids show up at school the same week that seem to hate each other but...more

I see a lot of 3-5 star reviews for this book...and I'm confused. Did we all read the same book, here?
This was awful. Shockingly bad. I hate to abandon any book so I forced myself to finish it. I'm surprised my eyes didn't bleed out of my skull.
Everything felt ridiculously contrived and a lot of the supposed angst was just laughable. I love a depressing or 'angsty' read, but the image of a teenage girl wandering around a graveyard and spouting really bad poetry made me chuckle. And not in a go...more

Hmmm...after I first finish reading I was about to give it a 3, but the more I thought about it, the more I noticed things that bother me.

Ember can sense a person's death with one touch. Her "curse" lends itself to being a natural outcast. It's hard for her to be around a lot of people. Then Asher and Cameron come into town. She can touch both of them without feeling any death. Asher is sweet, artsy and a little bit goth (at least in appearance) and Cameron is suave and cocky. Both seem to real...more

Ember is a high school student with a very special talent. Some teenagers can sing or dance. Others excel at football or cheerleading, tennis or basketball. Ember's talent is even more specialized than those.

You might actually call it a curse. Whenever Ember touches another person, she can see how that person dies. One-on-one, this might not be so bad, but in a bustling high school hallway, it can be a living hell.

Worse yet, Ember's father disappeared three years before, and he's presumed dead....more

. Ember has had a nightmare of a time in her teenage years. Her father disappeared a few years ago and the whole town thinks she killed him. Her mother has healed herself but drowning her sorrows in a bottle of Jim or Jack. Her brother Ian has never recovered from the death of his girlfriend a few years ago. Ember, well she can see death. As in how anyone and everone she comes in contact with is going to die.

I am torn with this book. The storyline and plot are excellent; different. I truly enjoyed this about Ember. However, the writing was juvenile, and seemed like the author was trying too hard to use big words for simple things, often to the detriment of the story. Sometimes simple is all you need. Quite often (as in, every single page) the wrong word was used for what the author was trying to say (does she have a dictionary to go with that thesaurus she must be using to make her writing more flow...more

The story revolves around 17 year old Ember. A girl who is from a small town and is cursed. It centers on Ember's ability to see more than the average eye and because of this she is an outcast. Writing a full review of this book would have to include spoilers and I don't want to do that. This book is worth reading. Sorensen gives angels and death a new twist making this story compelling, suspenseful, and romantic. It brings a new perspective to this genre making it unique. The fast pace and acti...more

This may be the beginning of Jessica's best series yet and that is saying something. AMAZING!!! I just absolutely was entranced by this book. I could not put it down and I will probably read it again in the very near future. Yes, I liked it that much. The story was so fresh and had a darkness I love while at the same time having a steamy romance. I know, this is YA and it was definitely YA appropriate, but it kicks it up a notch from The Fallen Star world and Darkness Falls series. I can not pin...more
