Who would imagine that three children going into the woods looking for a legendary pumpkin patch, could unleash destruction upon the land of iron and anvil - and possibly the whole realm - by simply uprooting one of these pumpkins? Many years after the evil witch has been killed by one of the three children’s parents, she is still lurking in spirit form ready to awaken as soon as one of her magical pumpkins is harvested. As though that is not enough, these pumpkins have some deadly magic hidden ...more

What a beautiful story by a masterful story teller. Joseph Beekman is a story teller in a calibre all his own. He is a master at duality and at layering his stories. If you are looking for a fast, easy read, upon first glance, this book is for you. If you take the time however to really read the story it will soon be apparent that his allusions goes much deeper than that which is obvious and the reader is lead into a world of hope, of courage and determination. A world where one cannot survive o ...more

The second installment in the Little Orphan Anvil series.

So we thought the witch was dead and the pumpkin patch had been destroyed but no, they both come back with vengeance. The witch has the same plan, destroy and take over the lands, but Anvil and friends are there to fight to save the day.

I found this book even better than the first, and the new characters were well introduced into the storyline. The author has created the perfect magical world, where anything can happen.

Thoroughly adventuro

This book had me intrigued from the beginning because I've read the first book and wanted to see where the author took the story. I was very well surprised at how well the author captured my interest once again, leading me on a journey with three wonderful characters. I was not surprised when he introduced Will and Anvil once again in this amazing story and well written book. I fell into the story easily, wanting to know what was going to happen next and whether or not the characters I came to a ...more

This is a perfect YA book to read. You are taken years later from where the first book in this series ends. Tabitha is the daughter of Sonny and Kelsey who were in the first book. If you remember Sonny and Kelsey helped bring down the witch. Well Tabitha and her two friends decide to go into the woods and see if they can find these "legendary" pumpkins that were left off by the witch. Well lets just say they end up finding the pumpkins and the WITCH! You get to meet two old characters who played ...more

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

A fantastic continuation of the story from the Land of Iron and Anvil that will have you spell bound from the first page. With a cast of new characters and old friends, the Author has you enter a realm of mystery that you can feel come alive right off the pages!

Tabitha, the main character is daughter to Sonny and Kelsey and let me tell you Apples don't fall far from the tree! She has the same sense of adventure and mischief that her paren

I was offered the complete trilogy to read for an honest review and I'm so glad I had all three books together as the writiing and storytelling just got better and better!
In the first book we meet Will and his cat Stella. Will's offer of help to an old woman running an orphange is declined, condemning the orphans to a life of servitude. A few weeks later, Sonny and his dog Ranger find a metal object stuck in the mud in the woods and the robot, Anvil, leads them to Will and together they embark o

This book takes place several years after the first book. It started off with the action and jumped right into the plot very quickly, which I enjoyed. I got through the first 1/4 - 1/3 of this book fairly quickly. From there, I felt it slowed down a bit. I like a lot of action in my books, so this bugged me a little.

However, I must say that I did find the descriptions and the story to be well written. It definitely focused more on the journey and less on the conclusion. In that way, it reminded

Review written by Kati exclusively for Bex 'n' Books.

Book two, The Shades of Fate, what can I say that won’t give too much away? It is a great follow up to book one and there are new characters including an evil witch! Who doesn’t like an evil witch! I was sucked in just as quickly into book two as I was into book one and again I needed to continue with the series; it is one of the best sci-fi pieces of writing I have read in a very long time.

If you need something to satisfy your sci-fi craving

I was given an e-copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in The Little Orphan Anvil Trilogy. The story begins several years after book one. Sonny and Kelsey are all grown up, have a daughter named Tabitha, and have gotten The Land of Iron and Anvil back in order. Tabitha and a couple of her friends decide to go on a journey to see if the tales of the evil witch and the pumpkin patch are really true. What they discover might be more that they anticipated.

The characters, som

"The Shades of Fate" by Joseph Beekman is the second in his Little Orphan Anvil series and just as delightful and magic as the first book. Set within the next generation after the first instalment three new heroes take on the Evil Witch and her hold over the world of metal. The blend of magic and fairy tales with adventure and science fiction is once again smooth and beautiful. A pleasure to read for anyone who likes to dive in to a fantastic world.
