Structurally, "To the Chapel of Light" is very similar to Young's first book, "When The Wolves Quit: A Play-In-Verse." This time, however, he's decided to write a screenplay-in-verse instead. Told through a variety of quickly cutting scenes and narration, "To the Chapel of Light" reads like a 100 piece Bosch puzzle slowly being put back together again but with some of the pieces missing. The resulting picture is of an American dystopia where little is left to do and even less is left to believe...more
Very enjoyable read. Joshua Young's To The Chapel of Light is a play-in-verse which creates a sort of narrative by giving you vague scenarios and letting you connect the plot lines. And by narrative, I am speaking in the most abstract sense. It reminds me of some reoccurring dreams I've had that create a story by revealing snapshots that may or may not be related, but do contain reappearing characters. One thing is for sure; it has made me get off my ass and search out some more of Joshua Young'...more
