Magical species must never mix. According to the rules, Simon Osborne should ignore the children’s cries for help. After all, they’re werewolf cubs, and he’s an apprentice mage. But for once in his life, Simon breaks the rules and rescues the cubs, saving them from a demon intent on draining them of their magic.

Re-Read on 4.30.13 - My current rating stands, but man I love this book! And Simon and Gray, and Garon of course :) I can't believe I accidentally re-read this book for the first time directly one year after I first read it :)

4.5 stars

Wow, I soared through this book in just a couple hours, all because I couldn't put it down! I don't usually have that problem (problem? that's not really a problem!), because I tend to put books away for a while for a break to read something else for a while before...more

I've finished this book right now. I've loved this story really, really much! Not only the love story that arises between Simon and Gray. In this book, the leading actor is not only that.
What I've loved so much are the characters, the background, the setting, all the mages' things, all the story that captures you and brings you inside the book.
I'm curious about what will happen now. To the wolf kids, the ancient vampire, the other wolves. Which will be Simon's new powers. What is an Enchanter,...more

This was one of those stories that grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. It's unique in the sense of how the world is set up, the pacing and the writing is amazing to where it keeps your attention while progressing the story at a good pace. The characters where interesting and intriguing while the plot had a few twists and turns.

I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this story. Mostly because I've been in such a funk lately that I can't seem to finish a book in one sitting anymore. With th...more

I'll go with the downside first. I agree with a couple of reviews I read about the romance. Personally, I think it's flat and uninspiring. I actually skipped all the scenes that had a hint of romance when Simon and Gray are together (plus I saw the word "baby" that Gray used for Simon *shudders*). I might enjoy it more if not for the fact that I just read few good romances before this book; so the romance in this one is not up to par. I like it better when Simon and Gray are apart -- when Simon...more

The caring mage Simon is about to cross paths with danger and the forbidden all to help innocent children, damn the consequences. The consequences are high. Magical beings are not to mingle with Others. Gray is immediately skeptical of the Mage that shows up at his packs compound with all of their missing children/cubs. Due to the laws that forbid Others from associating with one another he knows very little of what this man is. A pack Alpha never wants to be in a situation that involves anythin...more

Mind Magic was a fun and quick read. Poppy Dennison has combined the world of wizardry and werewolves and created a hot romance between a young wizard and the alpha of a local pack.

Simon is attempting to become a full-fledged wizard by his birthday, but he keeps hearing the cries of some shifter cubs. The wizarding world and the shifter world do not intertwine. He figures surely someone will be along to save the cubs. After another day of hearing their fear, his conscience gets the best of him....more

SlashReaders: Keep going, I think that is what I want to say most about these books. In the end I do not think they are great; however, I think that Poppy Dennison shows a lot of potential for the future.

A lot about these books, the characters and the relationships are rather juvenile. But there are some good things as well. I like the way she deals with magic, which isn't as straight forward as it could be. A lot of times for me werewolves, vampires and mages tend to get a little over used, tri...more

This was an interesting take on the paranormal world with an intriguing slant with having the protagonists being a mage and a werewolf. The worldbuilding that explains the mages and the wolves was new to me and interesting.

The story begins when Simon, a mage in training, hears the cries for help in his mind of some werewolf children. He knows the rules which don't allow for him to interfere, but they are children and so he chooses to break the rules. The werecubs are duly rescued, but that is ju...more

Nice and almost “familiar” paranormal romance, it was like the author was thinking, it’s already a paranormal story, why I have to overdo it with special effects? And so Simon is a next door guy who happens to be a mage, and Gray is a single dad who happens to be the Alpha of a werewolf pack. But both Simon than Gray are leading a simple life, Gray is not some sort of general in command, and while he has enforcers, they are more like friends than soldiers.

When Simon rescues 5 kids of the pack fr...more

Simon is not sure what to do. He could hear the screams coming from the strange house and he knew he had to do something. If it were adults causing the distraction, he might not be worried, but he could tell the help calls were coming from kids. He could feel their fear and he knew he had to help them somehow. The problem is, if he helped them, he would be risking his status as a mage. As a mage, he is not allowed to mix with “others” and that is exactly w...more

Wow! Once I started Mind Magic by Poppy Dennison, I couldn’t stop! Between the unique and creative storyline to the well-written characters this book felt like I swept through this story quickly with ease.

Simon is an apprentice mage who is just a few weeks away from being a full-fledged mage. Although Simon should be excited about this, he’s not. He knows he still has a long way to go and even his mentor isn’t thrilled by his progress. When S

This book started off awesome but then fizzled a bit for me. There are mages, werewolves, demons and vampires. Simon is a mage and gets involved (against mage rules) with the local werewolf pack when he rescures their pups. Gray is the alpha of the pack and his son Garon forms a strong bond with Simon during the rescue. Pretty soon Simon and Gray form a strong bond as well as they race to figure out who is trying to harm the pups and Simon.

The world and story are unique. We were thrown right in...more

I’m going 3.5 on this one. To be fair to the author I missed the m-m in the description and this is my first novel with m-m interaction and my first ARC. I could have contacted Netgalley and asked them to remove the book and told them my mistake or move forward and check it out. I am mostly a PNR and Urban Fantasy reader. I have been looking for something with magic for a change and the magic\werewolf story really had me intrigued so I moved forward and checked it out.

This story grabbed me rig...more

Really it was 3.5 stars...will goodreads ever give us half stars???

This book interested me because it was a combination of paranormal species - werewolves, demons, mages, and vampires all in one book! Although it focused mainly on the weres and the mages.

This was a story based on sacrifice, goodness, and love. Simon, the main character has to be one of the most good natured characters I have ever read, and he managed to be that without be obnoxious, a goodie too shoes, or even preachy. He just...more

A gay man and a specfic fan, somehow I've missed out on the M-M erotic fantasy romance subgenre up to now, but now have read two in as many days, with at least one more already waiting on my Kindle. If these first two -- of which Dennison's Mind Magic is one and J.L. Langley's Without Reservations the other -- are representative, then the genre seems to exhibit a few commonalities (besides the expected unbelievably gorgeous perfect bodies, lots of angst and drama, love at first sight, and more s...more

Simon is a mage-in-training who has been told his entire life that the different supernatural species should never mix. But when his mind hears the cries of kidnapped werewolf cubs, he simply can't ignore them. Simon tracks down the children and saves them from a demon feeding on their energies. It's not until he returns the cubs to their alpha, however, that things really start to get interesting.

Gray is wary of Simon when he first arrives at the keep, but his son is so enamored of his rescuer...more

I loved the concept of three types of inter-related magic: mind (mages), body (shifters) and soul (vampires/demons). The opening chapter drew me right in with sweet mage Simon risking his life (and likely punishment from the other mages) when he rescued 5 were-cubs being cruelly drained of their magic by a demon. After then being declared a friend of the pack, Simon's introduction to Gray, the alpha of the were-cubs, was eye-opening for them both. There was an immediate attraction between them,...more

Mind Magic was a surprisingly rich story that hit all the right notes for me. The characters were wonderfully developed. They leapt from the page early on, and established themselves as distinct and unforgettable throughout the journey.

Poppy has done a marvelous job of foundation building here, setting up a triumvirate of supernatural societies that are distinct from one another and ripe with dramatic possibility because of their differences. (view spoiler)[I can well imagine how the blending th...more

4,5 stars. Interesting I must say. A little difficult for me to follow, and I still can't understand why. The chemistry was there. I just found the plot a little dry. Ok ok i understand why now. In starting book two I understand. Although you can read book one and get away with it alone. Know this book 1, will is more complete with book two. Mind you I write this after I have read book two / chapter one. ENJOY!

I love this MM romance because it doesn’t take expected routes. It is a unique and lovely romance with strong world building. This novel is unique. It doesn’t use traditional plots or tropes and I love that.

First, I read a bit of MM romance and much of it involves one or both men coming to terms with being gay. I really like that MIND MAGIC has two gay men who just fall in love. They don’t have angst about their sexuality nor do they worry about what their frie...more

This was a really great story about a man trying to be the best person he can be in a world that says he can help someone because they are not like him. I really liked that Simon did the right thing and I also liked that Grey didn't allow prejudice to dictate what he should do.

This really was a story about two men making it work between then and doing what ever it took to keep the other safe and happy. I have to say I loved this story and I bough...more

This was one of the better shifter books in this genre in my humble opinion. I was very pleasantly surprised with this read. Simon Osborne is a mage who has been struggling to pass his apprenticeship. He needs to color in between the lines if he hopes to make mage before his 25th birthday. However, when he hears the frantic mind-pleas of some were-cubs crying for help, Simon can't ignore it, even though he knows he should not interfere with Others. Even though he is risking his mage status, Simo...more

Hmmmm, 3 or 4 stars? When I stared reading the book, the plot was interesting but the writing was choppy in the free part. Something made me take the chance and buy it. I was expecting to enjoy the book, but not love it based on the quality of writing.

And then, somewhere through the book it just clicked into place. I think it was when the author didn't make the tropey "grrr we mates" insta love/sex" plot line. There was attraction, but it was just normal attraction not some fated mate crap.

I really loved this book! Shifter stories are among my favorite stories to read add a Mage and a Vampire then make it an M/M Romance and it’s the book for me.

I fell in love with Simon right from the start, his determination to save the children knowing he was breaking the rules and his sweet disposition won me over. There isn’t a character in this story I didn’t like ....well there is one but I won’t say who that is, you will just have to read the book yourself. The children made me smile and...more

Simon is a mage apprentice who hears the mental cries of werewolf children in danger. He breaks the rules of inter-magical relations and rescue’s them. One of the children he saves is the son of the Alpha. The Alpha Grey is grateful and indebted to Simon, but wary of the Mage. This new connection they share will change things for them in ways they couldn’t have ever imagined.

I have read this book like one fairy tale where the magic not set only in the title but in all the pages of story. I loved very much Simon, a character sweet and brave ,a easy person and is beatiful the picture of him in his garden and while wearing funny pigiama . I liked also Gray who not is the classic alpha all muscle and dominance, because he is still and ever a loving father and a boss fair and friendly. The plot is interesting because there are many characters different, werewolfs, mages, va...more
