A powerful read! From life, loss, love, hate, and overcoming your worse fears, this book reels you along every path of emotion you could ask for. I'm glad I took a chance on this one, as it only cost .99 cent!

Learning to Breathe is the story of Darcie dealing with a traumatic incident and her emotions/nightmares.Danny is a new guy who Darcie meets who just wont leave her alone..and thats a good thing. She needs someone like Danny.

This book does take place overseas..I want to say England?I however do not know..Just be prepared for language differences,It is by no means a bad thing. However some may say the author is not using correct wording etc.Well it is simply not true.A few things that I wish had h

This was a fantastic story. I loved how it all unfolded slowly. You knew something happened but it was not revealed right away. You were always kept wondering what had transpired and it was very sad when you did find out but I love how it was revealed. Danny is just a great guy and so very patient. I loved how he dealt with Darcie to help her through all of this. The story was so very sweet and just gave you a feel good vibe as you were reading it. Yes there was drama but it wasn't gut wrenching ...more

Shelves: did-not-finish, 2014
I did not finish this. I couldn't. I thought the story had promise but in the end couldn't hold my attention. I got through 80% of it and had to stop. I felt it took too long for Darcie to reveal her traumatizing event. And even given what happened to her and her nightmares and flashbacks she gives in to swimming lessons quickly it seemed unrealistic. I also felt the writing wasn't for me. So many sentences started with "nevertheless" and "to say i was (insert adjective) was an understatement" ...more

Just a good book

It was emotional. I. Ride during some parts. Was frustrated beyond belief during other parts and then I was happy during the others. Great characters, great story line.

Good overall !! Although there was a lot of "smirking" in this book it did bring me to tears.. I liked that Danny never gave up on her and in the end it all came together !!

This is a story of personal tragedy. And the way I which our minds need time to process the grief. The romance was sweet and clean!

A cute YA book.

I'll admit it was kinda cheesy but still so, so sweet! A good message is taught throughout the book as well!

“I had to accept the fact that bad things happen. It’s out of our control and I know it hurts like hell but you learn to move on. Yes, the pain never fades and it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do but eventually you learn to breathe again.” 9 likes
“He looked at me intently before speaking. “Why do you do that?”
I frowned at him. “Do what?”
“Push everyone away.” Danny told me simply.
I was a little stunned and when I didn’t say anything, Danny continued on.
“Darcie, what are you so afraid of? Why do you shut people out?” He looked at me searchingly.
“Because it’s easier that way!” I yelled at him suddenly and he looked taken aback.
I took a deep breath to calm down and added, “And I don’t like feeling vulnerable.”
Danny stared at me. “Being vulnerable is nothing to be ashamed of Darcie …it’s what makes us human.”
I shook my head furiously. “No! Being vulnerable makes you weak – just like every other emotion … if you allow yourself to care, you only end up getting hurt.”
Danny threw me a consoling look. “But there’s nothing wrong with caring –”
“No!” I interrupted angrily. “I don’t want to care! You only end up getting hurt … and it hurts so bad that you can’t breathe. I don’t want to feel like that. I don’t want to feel at all! It’s just easier to shut everyone out … if you don’t care about them – you won’t get hurt!”
