Damien on the other hand came from a wealthy family, was a local celebrity, and seemed to have a bright future ahead of him.

This book left me in a blubbering mess by the end. Felt like I belonged in that mental institution with the way I was rocking back and forth sobbing like a baby.

It took me through such an emotional turmoil I don't know whether my heart was breaking or if it had just stopped.
I held the book for about an hour reading the last few pages over and over again. I just couldn't wrap my head around what I just read and my mind wasn't in the right state to comprehend that ending.
I went through bein...more

4 - 4.5 stars.

Wow - I was looking for something unique and just "different" and this absolutely fit the bill!

The story was creative and original and honestly was just a total mind fuck that constantly had me questioning each theory I'd come up with.

The book was told from the perspective of a young woman, Adelaide, who was committed to an insane asylum. She didn't believe she was crazy, but everyone else seemed to think she was. So... who was right?

The story was instantly gripping - the kind th...more

In Insanity, the first installment of the Asylum trilogy you get sucked into the utterly confusing, devastating, emotional and lonely world of Adelaide, who wakes up at Oakville Asylum in 1958. Adelaide can't recall exactly what happened prior her arrival at Oakville.

This is such an angsty story, I had to stop thinking about Arkham Asylum, because that freaked me out too much!

Instead I imagined the scenery from the movie Girl, interrupted, which thankfully soothed me a little.

The staff and pati...more

My heart is aching, my stomach hurts and my eyes are swollen from all the crying I have been doing while finishing up this book. I cannot believe how much I am hurting here. This book has affected me in more ways than I thought it ever would and I am floored and awed by the sheer brilliance of this poetic, haunting, tragic and ever so beautiful story of Addy and Damian. I am tearing up again while I try and type this review.

This book makes me sad in so many ways and I don't know where to start....more

Oh my god. Just....WHAT? I thought I knew where this was going! Ummm. Yeah.

Well that was fun!

In Insanity we follow Addy, who along with her boyfriend Damien were planning on running away together until Addy wakes up in an asylum and doesn't know why.
So much going on, weird doctors, abusive parents, judgmental parents, freaky nightmares. It's so busy you can't possibly get bored.

I loved it so much it was really intense. Slightly too...more

This book is insanely awesome! Lauren posted an excerpt from the first chapter on her blog and my reaction was, "Wow, that's freakin amazing!" I had to read this, like immediately. And I wasn't disappointed. I mean a love story set in an insane asylum? It doesn't get more awesome than that. Addy claims she shouldn't be in the asylum, but the reader can tell that's not exactly true. She's trying to piece together her lost memories with the help of Dr. Watson, who seems to really care for Addy. Bu...more

Insanity is totally full of WTF!! Seriously...WHAT! THE! F--K! You totaly think you have it figured out, (which you do) but then you DON'T. While you're stuck figuring out the things you think you know, Lauren Hammond sneaks up from behind and slaps you with WHAT THE HELL!!! It's like a really screwed up game of "mother may I". Just when you think you're at the end, HA! Think again, you're not! There's a reason I had to go back and re-read the...more

2.5 stars. I think the book gods must be laughing at me this week. It was all too apparent that my fabulous reading streak was going to have to end sometime, so of course they decided to shake things up by giving me a few books in a row which would test my limits of patience when it came to rating and reviewing them.

There had to have been at least 5 times when I was struck with the urge to slap a big DNF on this book. The first half was painfully terrible. The book's summary had me thinking that...more

Woah, what a serious mind-f**k. Reading Insanity was like being in a mad woman's head. I didn't know what was real or what were hallucinations. It was confusing, it screwed with my head, there was torture-though it was not written in detail-and some parts just gave me the chills and yet I loved it? Yes, yes I did. Now, this is the part where some of you go like this:

You must be thinking that I myself might have gone crazy. Well, there is a possibility that I did but trust me, it was no...more

"No...

I. Am. Not. Crazy."
-Adelaide in Insanity

Reading this book truly felt like reading the diary of a "Mad-Woman". You start off with a question "Ok, why is she in the asylum?" Then you think "Damn, what happen to her she seems cool." But just as suddenly that thought evaporates and you realize things are not what they seem.

The book starts off with Adelaide Ca...more

I went on a mind trip today and it looked like this...

First 50% - NO.FREAKING.CLUE.
50-85% - Puzzle pieces come into play. I started theorizing.
85% - I knew it! I'm so so sad.
Say what?!! WTF!
Ending - Just when you finally get something real, you're left with more mysteries.

I liked it. I like it enough to read the sequel. But I figure I'll wait until the final book is out. I'm guessing there will be more backstory in the 2nd book and before I get further invested in the story and the characte...more

Wow. Lauren Hammond has quickly turned into one of my very favorite authors. This book messed with my head so much. It was truly a very wicked story. I loved it so much and cannot wait for the next. I will read whatever you write. For real. Its difficult to try and describe the intense depth of this book. A must read.

Spoiler Alert!

(I know there is an option to hide my entire review because it contains spoilers. However, I don't like doing that. Not my entire review will contain spoilers, just the ending really. I don't think that the beginning needs to be hidden, at all.)

So, WHERE TO BEGIN?!

My brain is swarming with thoughts, my body pumping with energy, my fingers itching to write this review.. and I don't even know where to begin! I don't even believe that a "wow", or a "holy crapola" will explain my fee...more

My head hurts. The few points I want to make.

1) It took me a while to get into the book. It started out really slow, and it was kind of boring. And I felt the romance was a little too cheesy, a little too sappy. Something just wasn't right.

2) I KNEW it about Damien.

3) I KNEW it about Dr. Watson.

The only thing I can't figure out though is (view spoiler)[if Damien ever existed in the first place because "before" occurred while she was a teenager and she's probably in her mid to late 20s now if not...more

I don't know how I just now heard about this trilogy, but here I am, late to the party!

The second I read the synopsis for this book, I had to buy it. Which was only a couple hours ago, by the way. I was really intrigued by the storyline of a love story and that being torn apart by the girl being in an insane asylum and having no idea why.

The love story between Adelaide and Damien wasn't my favorite part of the story. I just didn't really feel it. One second they meet then the next chapter they...more

It took me half a day to finish up this novel.
And... WOW

There were so many twist and turns, but you know that ahead of time. I was enthralled while reading Addy’s story.

It’s quick to see that Adelaide Carmicheal has a rough life. She lives with her father, the town drunk, who regularly abuses her. She meets Damien Allen, her next door neighbor, and soon Addy has something in life to look forward to. Her soon to be life with Damien equals escape from her father....
But then she ends up in Oakhil...more

Holy Fuck!!!! I can't think straight. This book fucked with my head and emotions so much. I have no energy to write my review. Not now. Review coming soon.

WOW....I'm not sure how to start this review. I read it a few days ago and I still can't get the events that unfolded out of my head. It was trippy. First of all, I don't really like books about insane asylums because they scare the shit out of me. Literally, they freak me out to the point of like insanity. LOL but after friends reviews and ra...more

I Think that words aren't enough to describe what what I really feel for this book.
Insanity is a stupendous novel and a real challenge to readers. There were times that it was so difficult to tell the difference between what's real and what's not.Especially the final chapters were so vague and hazy.

Oh.my.god!!!! I did NOT expect that!! What the hell I have to read the next book. His wife!! Oh my god how is Addy?? wow...
I kinda sussed that Damien was dead it only made sense. But DR WATSON!!! I'm kinda happy it turned out tone like that instead of Dr Watson having a crush on her and caring because he likes her <3

When I read the blurb I had no idea it would turn out so unexpected!! This book is truly truly amazing!!! Can't wait for white walls

Ooooo I really wanted to like this one. I really did because of the great reviews that I kept seeing. I said “Self, people are talking about a mind fuck here! You just can’t pass up a mind fuck! You need to join the “in” crowd and read this damn book!” So I dropped it onto my Nook home page, along with the second installment, just for just in case…

And I was disappointed. This wasn’t a mind fuck. This was far from a mind fuck. You aren’t supposed to be able to figure out a mind fuck. Mind fuck’s...more

I HAVE NO HEART! This book has stolen it, twisted it and shattered it with just a couple of words. It left me a crying, sobbing, wailing mess!! I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
I've never cried so hard over a book before, and Trust me, I am ridiculously emotional...

I have to say, I had been decidedly against writing a review for this book, when I first finished because every time I even started thinking about Insanity, I'd stop what I'm doing, curl up into bed and cry and cry.

Insanity is bone chilling love story by Lauren Hammond that is insanely, brilliant book. From start to finish this book will mesmerize you. Wow, I mean this book is so entirely different than anything I have read for a long time. I literally thought I was losing my mind in the first few chapters and then slowly things came to me and understanding unfolded. What a great and refreshing read. I will be reading the next book soon.

OHEMGEEEEEE. This book! Wow I'm speechless. I can't say much bc I will give it away but I can say this; its not what I expected!

I sorta figured out what happened before they actually said it. But there were some twists I didnt expect!

It's not your typical love story, that's for sure!

So sit down and pick up this book and enjoy the ride!!!!!:)
