This book left me in a blubbering mess by the end. Felt like I belonged in that mental institution with the way I was rocking back and forth sobbing like a baby.

It took me through such an emotional turmoil I don't know whether my heart was breaking or if it had just stopped.
I held the book for about an hour reading the last few pages over and over again. I just couldn't wrap my head around what I just read and my mind wasn't in the right state to comprehend that ending.

Wow - I was looking for something unique and just "different" and this absolutely fit the bill!

The story was creative and original and honestly was just a total mind fuck that constantly had me questioning each theory I'd come up with.

The book was told from the perspective of a young woman, Adelaide, who was committed to an insane asylum. She didn't believe she was crazy, but everyone else seemed to think she was. So... who was right?

This is such an angsty story, I had to stop thinking about Arkham Asylum, because that freaked me out too much!

This is such an angsty story, I had to stop thinking about Arkham Asylum, because that freaked me out too much!

Instead I imagined the scenery from the movie Girl, interrupted, which thankfully soothed me a little.

The staff and patients at Oakville are cold and distant, except dr. Watson and her roommate Aurora. Or so it seems. Bits and pieces of Adelaide's memory return. Her memories are confusing. The memories slowly return, but it's unclear if these are memories, dreams or just figments of her imagination. She is after all at an asylum. is she insane or is she sane? Damien, her boyfriend, the boy who she was supposed the run away with, is also present. The confusion continues and intensifies when she meets her new doctor, Elijah Watson. The author switches from present to past and we discover what happened before she arrived at Oakhill. How devastatingly much she and Damien loved each other, her life back home, her heartbreaking past and the harsh reality of her present.

Damien pulls away from me and tucks wisps of my hair behind my ears. He smiles and I touch the dimples I love so much on his cheeks. “My beautiful rebellious love,” he muses and places his forehead against mine. “Remind me again where I’d be without you?

Aurora raises an eyebrow. “Get out of here?” she asks then laughs again and it reminds me of the cackle she let out earlier. I frown at her while she laughs at my expense then her face gets all serious. “It’s simple. You don’t.”

Throughout the story I was constantly second guessing Adelaide and the sequence and authenticity of the events. Honestly, I quite enjoy these kind of confusing stories. The author has created an anxious, scary world in the present and a serene, beautiful world in the past. In Adelaide's memories with Damien the author gives you hope. These loving scenes, the willow tree where they make love, helped me cope with this angsty story.

Adelaide is though, her strength and determination are admirable. I thoroughly enjoyed her character. While reading this mindboggling story you will be constantly filled with questions, you will receive answers, but more questions arise....on to the second book White Walls.(less)

This book makes me sad in so many ways and I don't know where to start. I'm beyond trying to explain the story and I don't think I would be able to do it justice but I will try. First of all I want to say that Lauren Hammond really knows how to capture your heart and draw you in. I felt, I breathed, I feared, I loved and I definitely lost my mind completely. For a while I thought I was Addy and I was trying to figure out why I was in so much pain and why I couldn't remember certain events in my life and why for the love of God was I insane. I mean it was so real, and raw, and heartfelt, and sad, and honest, and tormented and tragic. OMG was it tragic *sobs hysterically again...excuse me while I take a minute to breathe* It was very painful to read and endure along with Addy. The things this poor girl went through would be enough to make you want to just curl up and die.

You see, before the age of 10 Addy had the perfect life and two parents that loved her. Then one day her mother left and never came back. It was then her alcoholic father began to abuse her both physically and emotionally. For almost 8 years he would beat her down just because she looked like her mother and he would call her "whore" because he thought she would turn out like her mother. I'm telling you Addy suffered terribly at the hands of her father. He was disgusting and despicable and he made me want to vomit every time he was mentioned in the story. I shudder every time I think of him, it totally creeps me out. Anyway, he put some much fear into Addy's that she would be scared to even talk to others. While she is on her early morning walks a red convertible cadillac drives past and in it was a boy who would change her life forever. A boy who had chin length black hair and piercing blue blue eyes and was called Damian. The moment he pulled up alongside Addy, was the moment you knew he was special. He would mean more to Addy than you ever thought.

The story is set in 1958 and starts off with Addy being in a insane asylum. Now we, along with Addy, are trying to discover why she is there in the first place. What brought her to this very moment and why hadn't Damian, who was disguised as a worker, trying not to spring her out? Assigned to her was Dr Elijah Watson. He was a mysterious man who really was a little to invested and attached to Addy, and this confused her quite a bit. Damian thought that the Doctor was secretly in love with Addy, who in turn thought nothing of it. Instead, he was desperately trying to help her remember and in doing so Addy began to relive everything through flashbacks. Addy endured this torturous journey and slowly the mystery unraveled.

There is so many twists and turns and surprises my head was spinning and the last 20% of the story just killed me. It had me sobbing in pain and I could not stop. I really could not fathom the shock of what happened and I don't think I ever will *shakes head this is not true* But through all the pain and suffering, there is a story about love. The love between Addy and Damian was so tender and beautiful and full of hope and so much passion I thought I would burst at the seams. The flame that was ignited within these two when they were together consumed them and the heat was palpable. I'm talking scorching hot. There was nothing these two wouldn't do for one another, especially Damian. He would do anything for her *sniff sniff* literally anything. They had to steal moments away from her father, away from the doctors and nurses and patients and away from the world so they could just be together. And those moments left you wanting so much more. It was breathtaking beautifully to read. The hope in those moments were just glimpses at what they deserved! *sighs sighs sighs*

Ok enough said. If I don't stop now I will reveal too much but I'm bursting with so many emotions as I sit here and I want to share them all with you. I feel like a desperate woman trying to convince you all that this book is a MUST READ. AN ABSOLUTELY, OMG IF YOU DON'T READ THIS YOU ARE TOTALLY MISSING OUT KIND OF READ! This book is insanely awesome! Lauren posted an excerpt from the first chapter on her blog and my reaction was, "Wow, that's freakin amazing!" I had to read this, like immediately. I went on a mind trip today and it looked like this...

First 50% - NO.FREAKING.CLUE.
50-85% - Puzzle pieces come into play. I started theorizing.
85% - I knew it! I'm so so sad.
Say what?!! WTF!
Ending - Just when you finally get something real, you're left with more mysteries.

I liked it. I like it enough to read the sequel. But I figure I'll wait until the final book is out. I'm guessing there will be more backstory in the 2nd book and before I get further invested in the story and the characte...more

Wow. Lauren Hammond has quickly turned into one of my very favorite authors. This book messed with my head so much. It was truly a very wicked story. I loved it so much and cannot wait for the next. I will read whatever you write. For real. Its difficult to try and describe the intense depth of this book. A must read.

1) It took me a while to get into the book. It started out really slow, and it was kind of boring. And I felt the romance was a little too cheesy, a little too sappy. Something just wasn't right.

There were so many twist and turns, but you know that ahead of time. I was enthralled while reading Addy’s story.

WOW....I'm not sure how to start this review. I read it a few days ago and I still can't get the events that unfolded out of my head. It was trippy. First of all, I don't really like books about insane asylums because they scare the shit out of me. Literally, they freak me out to the point of like insanity. LOL but after friends reviews and racve about this book I figured I would give it a shot. HOLY. SHIT.! This was a crazy, trippy, rollercoaster of emotions and it only got worse by the end. I was sobbing, screaming, panting, gauging my eyes out and yelling WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY??????????? My God, this was one fucked up story. But for some reason I could not put it down til I finished it. I read it in ONE DAY!!! I put off writing and reading and other things that needed to be done because this book had a pull of some sort and I could not function unless I was reading this. The author is definitely good at keeping you guessing and wanting more. I was at the edge of my seat and practically falling off the couch at some of the revelations. I was able to guess a couple of things but O.M.G. there were things that had me flipping out.

Adelaide was an abused girl. Her mother left her at age 10 and her father was a raging alcoholic. He hit her and always called her a whore because she looked like her mother. She wasn't allowed to do anything and didn't have any friends. It was a lonely life for Addy. Until she meets Damian, a sexy rich boy with blue blue eyes that are so captivating. They get to know each other over months and sneak out to be together when her dad is asleep and dead to the world. Damian's family doesn't really accept her because she's not a rich snobby bitch like his mother. But he doesn't care. He loves her and would do anything for her. He plans on going to college in Seattle, but once he meets the love of his life, things change. Although, he still plans on attending for the first half of school. Then they plan on running away together, he wants to get Addy away from her piece of shit father so they can start a new life together. It's a great plan, really the best plan they could ever wish for.

But things change and she ends up in an asylum instead. She's not sure how or why she ended up there. But one thing she knows for sure, the place for the insane is not for getting better....but for getting worse. Her doctor wants her to forget what happened....so she's got a new doctor who has other plans. His one priority is to help her piece together her past. And wow, she eventually remembers and comes head to head with the painful, horrifying events that brought her into this creepy place. And once she realizes what lead her, she's a changed person...and so are you.

Brace yourself for this epically told story that will haunt your dreams and become your nightmare for a long time to come. I guarentee you, this will stay in your brain and it will consume you. I seriously was so disturbed my mind was filled with the tragedy that struck this girl and it gave me headaches. I really liked Addy's character. She was such a lost and tortured soul. It was heartbreaking. I cried so much and when I started to piece things together, I started screaming in my head. Then there were a few times I guessed wrong but then I was right afterall. It was horrible, I wished I wasn't right. I was left screaming and sobbing at the same time. But one thing I knew for sure, I hated her God damn father with every fiber of my being. I wanted to beat that mother fucker with a ten foot pole then bury his fucking body in a ditch and burn that place down til there was nothing left but ashes. OMG. I really hate that son of a bitch. I mean the things he did, holy shit. Just thinking about it now makes me body tense in anger and he's a friggin fictional character. But those that have read this understand my anger and hatred for that dirty poor excuse of a man. You learn so much by the end, things that hit you like a ticking time bomb and it crushes your windpipe. You're left breathless. The author has a way of making you feel everything Addy is going through. It's so emotional and tragic and gutwrenching. You begin to wonder how the Hell a 17 year old girl could have so much to deal with in her life and still be sane. But then again, she's not really sane is she? I mean, well having Damian in her life is the only thing keeping her from putting a bullet in her head. I can't give too much away so this review is gonna be relatively short compared to my other reviews. But I will say....Damian. Oh Damian. I loved him so. *SOB SOB* Thinking about him makes my heart ache. So I'm gonna end my review before I give myself a migraine.

Go and buy this book...it really is amazing! Disturbing..but amazing nonetheless. There is a sequel coming soon which I thank God because I still have so many questions that need to be answered. All of the pain, heartache and anger I endured while reading this is worth the read because of how this story is told. I definitely recommend it. Just warning though, you might want to read it when you have a day to devote because once you start it you won't stop. You can't stop. (less)

The story had many twists or so I thought because the main character,Addy,was the narrator and anything that happened before and during her life in the asylum was described by her.Although we don't get to see why she got to the asylum,we see some pieces of her past with Damien,who I can't say loved but surely liked.He is so romantic.Here's a taste of him "Addy, living one day without you would never be for the best. I want you every minute of every day. Forever. I love you.”
She is so obsessed with him that even in the asylum all about she thnks is him.I think that what she saw when she was just 17 has stuck with her even though she has forgotten everything else.
She seems to believe that her life hasn't progressed since Damien's horrible death but it did.She's so lost,I don't know why as the book doesn't elaborate what she did in order to end up in the asylum,which is so messed up.The only thing that I liked of it was Dr. Watson who later reveals his true identity.His so patient and caring.I bet no man in the world would do what he did for Addy.He's awesome!!!
I loved this book.It's just insanely awesome!I definitely recommend it to anyone and I can't wait to read the folllowing book,White Walls.

Ooooo I really wanted to like this one. I really did because of the great reviews that I kept seeing. I said “Self, people are talking about a mind fuck here! You just can’t pass up a mind fuck! You need to join the “in” crowd and read this damn book!” So I dropped it onto my Nook home page, along with the second installment, just for just in case…

And I was disappointed. This wasn’t a mind fuck. This was far from a mind fuck. You aren’t supposed to be able to figure out a mind fuck. Mind fuck’s jump out of the shadows and slap you in the face, leaving you with hand on cheek and an open mouthed gape. A mind fuck sneaks up on you and taps on your right shoulder while standing by your left and snickers at your reaction. This wasn’t a mind fuck.

I knew on page 66…well let’s be honest here, I knew a chapter or two before that what was going on but for me it was confirmed by page 66. What bothered me was the writing. I just couldn’t get into it, is there such a thing as being too descriptive? Cause that’s how I felt with this read. There were just SO many descriptions! I actually started glossing over them towards the end there, it was too much. There were descriptions of shit I didn’t even care if it was described! How many times can you describe how Damien makes you feel when he’s near you? How many times can you describe his touch? Cause I assure you, if I didnt get it by the first three times it was described I most certainly got it the fifth and sixth time.

Ok, now violence disturbs me, if its written well. If I am going to read about violence, I want to cringe and look away from the book or read through my fingers like it’s happening right in front of me and I just can’t bear to watch. I want to feel disgust in my gut and have it claw its way up my throat, to the point that I have to close the book, just to collect myself before proceeding. Now don’t misinterpret what I’m saying here, I’m not pro-violence but if you’re going to write violence, *shrug* then do it well. I didn’t feel anything for Addy…or anyone else for that matter. The characters are forgettable, if she didn’t say Damien’s name every 2 point 3/4 minutes, I’m certain I would have forgotten it. If she didn’t describe his eyes and is almond colored skin and how he made her feel, every other sentence, then again, I am absolutely certain I would have forgotten him.

However, I did like that little “gotcha” at the end there. That I wasn’t expecting. Hammond also did a good job with leaving the reader curious; there are a few questions that I wanted answered. Such as, how old is Addy? She believes that she is still 18 I presume. Who is Aurora really? Cause bitch is either so far off the deep end that she has developed sanity or she is sane. What the fuck happened? Bitch came in with mud caked in .her. hair! What did you do Addy?! And other thought provoking questions, but *sigh* unfortunately those alone aren’t enough for me to continue to White Walls.(less)

I HAVE NO HEART! This book has stolen it, twisted it and shattered it with just a couple of words. It left me a crying, sobbing, wailing mess!! I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
I've never cried so hard over a book before, and Trust me, I am ridiculously emotional...

I have to say, I had been decidedly against writing a review for this book, when I first finished because every time I even started thinking about Insanity, I'd stop what I'm doing, curl up into bed and cry and cry.

So...

Ahhh mazing !!!!!! I want the next one(tears) and addicting. This book will blow your mind away!! The characters were beautiful and the plot was very unique. Lauren Hammond is a great writer and I recommend reading more of her books!!

The plot of Insanity starts off at an insane asylum, Adelaide Carmichael and Damien Allen were amazing characters!! It was shocking scenes during the end that I did not expect but as we see Adelaide (Addy) goes through soo much pain and you feel really bad for her....more

Insanity is bone chilling love story by Lauren Hammond that is insanely, brilliant book. From start to finish this book will mesmerize you. The romance is amazing, and the narration is told in such a great format that helps the reader piece together Addy's memories. I'm keeping this short but sweet review because all I have to say read this book !!!! I can't wait for book 2 White walls!!!

Wow, I mean this book is so entirely different than anything I have read for a long time. I literally thought I was losing my mind in the first few chapters and then slowly things came to me and understanding unfolded. What a great and refreshing read. I will be reading the next book soon.

OHEMGEEEEEE. This book! Wow I'm speechless. I can't say much bc I will give it away but I can say this; its not what I expected!

I sorta figured out what happened before they actually said it. But there were some twists I didnt expect!

It's not your typical love story, that's for sure!

So sit down and pick up this book and enjoy the ride!!!!!:)
