{my thoughts} - This book is about a orphaned girl named Meriwether Storm. She lives an unusual life that has unusual side effects. She is a daemon summoner like her parents were before her. Her quest in life becomes one of trying to discover which daemon her parents had summoned the night they had met their demise. Throughout the book she goes on some trial and error in her life, love life, her beliefs and her understanding of what her life is suppose to be as opposed to her impression of how s...more
If asked before I read it, I would have categorized The Daemon Whisperer as contemporary paranormal urban fantasy; now that I've read it, I would categorize it as contemporary paranormal erotic romance. While romance and erotica are not genres I normally read, I have to say that I enjoyed this story and neither the romance nor the erotica overwhelmed the story line. Still, it is a bit different to read a novel that induces a reaction south of the belt buckle.

3.5 I was given a review copy by the author.
Favorite Lines: “I am very attracted to you, Meri, despite all the times you’ve lied to me and called me a bastard. I see someone with tremendous potential and a tenacity to match my own. I won’t take advantage of your binding. If you want things to continue as before, it’s up to you. I’ll follow your lead.” (p. 138)

I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really good story, I liked the world Candice has created. The story was fast paced, but there were also some slower paced parts. The characters were nice, but overal I would've liked getting to know them better.

OMW!! I loved this book! Every spare moment I had, my phone was out and this book was up! I just couldn’t put it down!
The narrative is very crisp, which really makes it easy for the story structural elements to rise and SHINE! And, oh man! Do they ever! I like Merri! She’s down to earth. There wasn’t a lot of internal wishy-washiness. Merri’s very…goal oriented and organized! LOL! It really helped to keep all the unnecessary stuff out of the story.

This book had the potential of being a great futuristic/dystopian UF, but was dragged down by an unbelievable romance and what I felt was lack of character coherence due to the romantic thread.
The story could (and in some cases did) show a gritty world after a (mysterious) apocalypse, and in which live Daemons. Ms Bundy manages some world-building, but then loses its interesting freshness to a forced love-story. And transforms a nice UF into a pathetic pnr.

Ok so can I admit something about myself with not judgments? I have no clue what classifies a book as urban fantasy. Lol. When Candice emailed me about the review, I just thought the book sounded like something right up my alley; paranormal romance with some suspense/action elements. And I have to say Candice, you were absolutely right when you said this book was for me!

Candice Bundy has definitely started something fresh with this series. What first struck me about The Daemon Whisperer was Meri's personality. She is a strong, but believable, female character. Meri hurts. She carries baggage and craves revenge. Underneath the calm exterior is a woman who just wants to feel vindicated. I liked Meri a lot to be completely honest. Watching her grow from a wary, reserved person to someone who could trust in others was extremely satisfying.

Unique, edgy book. Candice Bundy is in a league of her own -- there aren't a lot of urban fantasy authors brave enough to tackle this kind of story. Nonstop action and adventure, which I loved. The erotic-romance component of the story isn't really my "thing," but the intrigue of her dark, daemonic world is compelling enough to bring me back for the sequel.

Candice Bundy tackles urban fantasy with lots of ambition and twists in her post-modern world setting (dark and exciting) with enough challenges in it without any of the fantasy (lots of stories to be told about the Corporate Sector take over, the collapse of governments, the return of the pioneer spirit for many, etc.). Then she adds a strong magic component and frequent crossover (voluntary and not so voluntary) between the mortal world and the realm of demons. The author has no difficulty cre...more
The Daemon Whisperer is a fast paced, action packed erotic romantic read. It’s a unique mixture of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.
The main character, Meriwether Storm (Meri), is a daemon summoner a trait she inherited from her parents. She is good at what she does and earns living from it. She is on a quest for revenge, searching for the daemon that was responsible for her parents’ deaths. She is a strong-willed, self-reliant, no-nonsense woman who does not take crap from anyone. Meri had...more

I must say, when I started to read this novel I was a bit worried. It had a bit of a slow start, but when the storyline began to pick up it exploded. It went from ‘meh’ to awesomeness in the turn of a page.
Bundy uses sentences and paragraphs to her advantage, altering her writing style slightly based on the type of action occurring at that point in time. This book was quite interesting when it started. The heroine, Meri, was hardened, experienced, and strong. The book takes place in either the future or an alternate and somewhat dystopian Denver. There is little world-building. Demons exist and Meri summons them to do her bidding. She is excellent at her job, even if it means she lives a life alone. Then she gets offered a job she can't refuse and her world changes forever.

I received this from one of the goodreads first reads giveaways. I cracked it open when I received it and 10 minutes later regretted it. Never start a new book by an author you haven't read in your car 10 minutes before your shift. Excellent writing the characters & plot grabbed my mind and held me enthralled as they wove through my mind. Characters are developed very well right in the zone of perfect as opposed to not knowing enough or knowing waaaaay too much. The erotic scenes are singe w...more
Review as it appears on my blog Amy's Book World:
The book leads off with a gory first chapter, Meri witnesses a summoning gone bad. Usually I would stop reading the book at that time (too much gore) but the author's writing has me intrigued. She created a post apocalyptic world where daemons are the source of knowledge and vengeance. Meri is a strong willed character. She has been a summoner since she was young. She tends to keep to herself. So when is paired with Azimuth there is a lot of chem...more

I really liked this book. It had a gritty quality that I really enjoyed. I always like those deteriorating civilization stories and this was right up that alley, with an oppressive government, and deamons slaughtering people.
I liked Meri, she was a really tough character. She had to be that way in order to survive in the world she lived in, but I also liked seeing the more vulnerable human part of her at times, like when she wanted to stop and help the fools who thought that they could properl...more

My Thoughts :)
I really liked this book. Meri’s back story makes her for a great leading lady. I loved watching her roll with the punches she is dealt throughout the book. This book is packed with action. I never once felt like it was a struggle to stay interested which sometimes happens with the first book in a series. I felt like I was there with Meri while she struggled with all the changes in her life, her battles to survive, and these weird feelings she is having for Az. I do not like giving...more

I have to say after reading the first few pages of this one, I wasn't quite sure if this was going to be the read for me.
It was a little gritty and okay, some parts were just down right disgusting to read and had me cringing and thankful I hadn't just eaten but, I hung in there. Morbid curiosity maybe? Masochism? I don't know but either way, I stuck with it and kept on reading.

A very interesting and different read for this here book junkie! As I was reading it I was reminded of two of my favorite series of all time which are Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series and Lilith Saint Crow’s Jill Kismet series; action, excitement, adventure, paranormal elements galore and romance that all feed the imagination to bursting. It started off a touch confusing (was unsure at times of changes from past to present and visa versa), but it comes together nicely you get further in....more
This book had me worried when I started it, it felt a bit clumsy and I couldn't quite figure out why, but once it got rolling I completely forgot about the awkward beginning and settled in for what turned out to be a great adventure. Often times erotic adventures miss the whole adventure part of the equation and just stick to the hero and heroin battling through cliches and getting naked after narrowly avoiding death. Not in this one, its a full on deamon thriller, with interesting history and m...more
I received a review copy of this book after requesting one from the author. I liked the blurb of this book and was looking forward to reading it.
Meriweter (aka Meri) is a daemon summoner and is driven by her sole need for vengeance against the daemon responsible for the death of her parents who were also daemon summoners like her. In her quest for finding information on this daemon, she accepts a job which she wouldn't have under normal circumstances from another daemon Azimuth. For some reason...more

OVERVIEW/ANALYSIS: In regards to Candice Bundy’s The Daemon Whisperer, I was alerted to its existence by Steven Montano’s blog. I am a fan of his dark fantasy-thrillers and also his picks in regards to books have been along the same lines as my interests. Plus the book blurb promised a post-apocalyptic world wherein daemons are now present and can be summoned to our plane of existence. This book seemed to be a urban fantasy version of The Warded Man...more
I won this book in a Good-reads giveaway. This book leads you into the strange worlds of humans and daemons while showing the interaction between the two. This story is a fantastic mix of mystery suspense and romance which will be a great read for all adults who like the combination of paranormal and reality.I love how this book takes and makes the characters face what they dread most which is each other. I recomend this book to anyone who is mature enough in age and likes a great read.

Candice Bundy
Right into the action, with interesting characters, mystery, and a background story of future dystopia that is yet to be fully revealed. All this and sexy daemons, the ultimate "bad boys", I'm all in, and await the next part of the story.

Candice lives in Centennial, Colorado with her son and her pathetically stupid but therefore very sweet cat Maia. Candice loves to make wine and mead and is a professional hedonist, rabble-rouser, and goat-herder. She adores archeology and all things Greek/Roman, so if you send her fan mail, please send it on cuneiform tablets, papyrus, or traditional vellum.
