Steam punk is not a genre that I have read before. I was impressed by the vivid descriptions that Annie used to pull me into this world. The costumes and the machinery were fresh and bright. The jungle felt warm and steamy and who wouldnt want to be there with Captain Doogooder? What I particularly like is that this is the first in a series. When I find an author that I like, I want more books and quickly.
Well done Ms Seaton, I'm waiting for the next one.

*WARNING: Spoilers at the bottom- but they shouldn't be at the top half.*

Favourite Character: Indigo de Vargas. (And Zane was just as awesome)

Let me just say that that was a beautiful ending to the story. Unfortunately Goodreads hadn't let me know that this was a series. But fortunately for me I managed to randomly pick up the first book. What a piece of luck! Goodreads also didn't want to let me know that this wasn't a Young Adult book. Just keep that in mind. It wasn't erotica or anything (Fo...more

First up, I am a steampunk virgin. By definition then just about everything in this book was original to me. And I enjoyed it immensely. From taking it a little slowly at first, not knowing what I was getting into, I very soon ran with it. I loved the heroine, Indigo, one who was truly, in that much overused word in relation to heroines, feisty. Tough, attractive, intelligent and in command, most of the time, of her own world. In Zane there was an attractive and somewhat mysterious hero also, an...more

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 10th DECEMBER 2012:

RATING: 3 STARS!!

My word there is a lot going on in this 70 page novella. I am a great lover of Steampunk and have read quite a few books in this genre. Annie gives us steampunk gadgets a plenty, a time travelling submarine, ray guns, inept henchmen and shapeshifters.

I’ll be honest and say I felt like I came into this story a bit ahead of time. Maybe I time travelled in.

Indigo de Vargas is a character I did not really connect with. She is supposed to...more

Steampunk novels are often set in London, but this one is located in Cornwall and provides a welcome change to the genre.

Indigo de Vargas is an unusual woman in the Victorian era. She not only rules her own household but also runs her own business, inherited from her father. When Captain Doogooder, also known as Zane Thoreau, arrives on her doorstep she is at first suspicious, but enlists him in her efforts to collect the necessary in...more

This was one heck of a book, it was time travel meets romance meets science meets action !

Indigo de Vargas is determined to exhibit her products at the Great Exhibition in Crystal Palace, but she does not count on evil and mean evil of the worst kind, stopping her in her path. She also does not count on coming across the reformed Cornish Pirate that could be her savior.

I love reformed characters and boy oh boy did the author give us one very delicious one . I loved how the author gave really incre...more

Miss Indigo de Vargas, a young gentlewoman of aristocratic Spanish lineage, lives on the Cornish coast in the 19th century, as the Crystal Palace exhition approaches. She runs a futuristic holiday resort fuelled by the inventions of her late father, a scientific genius indeed. That her late father was a man of the future is evident given the fact that he reportedly expired on a mission to the twenty first century. However, it is quite clear that the gentleman would have done well to have paid le...more

I got this book as an advance copy from Goodreads First Reads program. The author was also kind enough to personalize the copy of the book, which is always nice. It's a fast read, I read it in one sitting.

The novella revolves around Indigo, who wants to display her wares in the main spot at the Great Exhibition, the bad guy Duke Lorca who wants the spot himself to display his products, and the mysterious Zane, who seems to want to assist Indigo in her efforts, but may have a few secrets of his o...more

I have a love and hate relationship with Steampunk novels – I have only read and enjoyed a few and I am glad I read Winter of the Passion Flower because it was a very enjoyable read. Granted that it is short, Winter of the Passion Flower will give you the right dose of steampunk, romance, action and a few steamy moments at the right moment. I won’t tell you anymore what the story is about since the blurb basically sums it up. Seaton gave us a delicious read with this one. What I also love is tha...more

I've not happened upon many steampunk stories in general, let alone steampunk romance, but Annie Seaton does an impressive job with the description of the world she has created.

Indigo DeVargas is an entrepreneur with a special knowledge of the passion flower. Using parts of this plant, she creates not only cosmetics, but medicine with amazing healing properties. Unfortunately for her, experimentation is outlawed and she faces the risk of being arrested and shut down before she can show off her...more

I am new to the Steampunk genre. Winter of the Passion Flower sounded really interesting, so I figured I'd give it a try. I will admit, I had a bit of a hard time orienting myself to the story. I kind of felt like I was walking into the middle of a movie. I would have liked a little more background in the beginning. Having said that, I did find the story entertaining. I liked the characters and scifi aspect of the book. I think fans of this genre will love this story.

A ridiculously improbable fun romp that delightfully skewers the hypocrisies and injustices of today by satirising them in a Victorian setting.

The heroine is an adventuress, a scientist, explorer and social activist. The hero has to be something special to match her – and he is! A reformed – or is he? – Cornish pirate.

Fabulous inventions populate this steampunk world. Be seduced by the passion flower – visit today!

A fun read from a great new author. Love the dual time settings, handled with flair and an eye to getting the hero and heroine into a range of interesting situations, and state of undress (who wears much in the Amazon?) The heroine challenges the social order and Victorian ideas of what is suitable for a woman to do/wear/say, while the hero is a great foil for her sassy attitude. Can I take him home, please?
Susanne
An entertaining novella that meshes time travel, romance and danger with preparations for the Great Exhibition of 1851. I'd like to take Captain Dogooder home with me, tattoo and all. And Indigo is a feisty, independent woman ahead of her time, with a wonderful social conscience that is matched by her heroic captain.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this but I loved this world. The descriptions alone made me feel I was there. I loved the story of the flower and Indigo's idea to do right in the world.
My only disapointment was that it was too short, what happens next?? Look forward to the next book in the series.

A beautifully well written novel, I loved the time travelling steam sub genius. I now cant wait for further adventures, so here's me hoping Annie Seaton is a really fast writer.

Annie Seaton lives on the beautiful east coast of Australia, where she loves sitting in her writing chair, gazing at the ocean and writing stories. She has always been fascinated by all things historical and has found her niche writing contemporary romance and steampunk, where strong heroines and brooding heroes fight together to make their alternative world a better place.
Her debut novel, Holiday...more
