Heart of Danger is a fast paced, action packed, very sexy story told in true Lisa Marie Rice fashion. This book just oozes with sexual tension and burn up the bed sheets lovin’, but it’s also filled with emotion. Heartbreaking, disturbing, violent… sweet, tender, romantic, Ms. Rice took me on a roller coaster ride of feelings and kept me reading ‘til the wee hours of the morning, unable to stop until the very end.

First in a series. This one is set 15-20 years in the future, with a some changes in technology and world powers. LMR's writing and themes have broadened and evolved from her early, more simplistic stories.
This is another change in direction for LMR’s writing. Rice has broadened her scope of writing quite a bit; and is now including world politics in her RS storylines, as well as a bit of paranormal element. That being said, this was a very enjoyable read. I love LMR...but this one was far from her best. Although a lot of the tried and true LMR elements are here (foster-child hero falling hopelessly and protectively in love; the obsession with the H/h hands; the sensual love scenes), she also adds some paranormal/futuristic elements, and some confusing, dare I say boring plot line about an ambitious mad scientist bent on producing a drug to create super-soldiers for China. I must confess after losing my train of thought while reading the chapters More...

Before I get into the review, let me start by saying how crazy and over the top Lisa Marie Rice books can be. I feel like I have to put that warning out there if you are a LMR virgin. The characters are all super intelligent, super stealthy. They have millions of dollars of security and weapons and the most advanced technology ever. And when they fall in love, it becomes the most grand emotional, sexy relationship ever. I totally understand how some will read this book and just shake their head More...

Good first in the series and I'm really looking forward to the next books. She leaves it pretty open with the 2 other men(Jon and Nick) and then 4 others towards the end so I hope there is lots of good things to come.
It seemed a little slow at times, and the internal dialog got a bit repetitive. I also think we got a little too much POV from the villain.
Really enjoyed Mac and Catherine and I felt their love. Mac is a heavily scarred ex-military and very much the alpha male and Catherine is the More...

I read this so long ago as an E-ARC, I can't remember when I read it precisely. I just know it wasn't what I wanted it to be. Even the most cursory look at my shelves will show I like paranormals, but I frankly could have done without the psychic ability element. Rice throws a lot at the reader (the book is set in the not too distance future, a Captain America-like governmental program, a secret complex for outcasts) so the psychic element seems like overkill. At its core, it comes perilously cl More...

I really wanted to love this book.
Catherine is a scientist who discovers through her unique skill can merge with a comatose patient and he sends her off to find Mac. Only problem is Mac thinks the man who sent her was his former commandeer who betrayed his men and caused the death of half of his team and made the rest fugitives.
I mean, come on! Special Ops men, a smart woman. Love, betrayal and a bad guy. How much better can it get.

While there’s that bit of paranormal throughout this first book in Lisa Marie Rice’s new series, it’s still the suspense that takes center stage. Something she does so very well, along with heart-pounding action, gratifying sex scenes, and a hero who is physically flawed and so very noble you just have to love him.
Dr. Catherine Young is after a ghost. A man who disappeared after he and his men were betrayed by their commanding officer. Most of the team was killed, only a few survived. They now t More...

Weak 3 stars. I liked the characters and overall plot, but too much pondering. I skimmed a lot.
I always enjoy this author’s characters and the hero’s out of control sexual desire for her. But I also want a good story. Here she could have told the story in a third of the time. The author does fun pondering. For example he’s thinking about his strength and skills in battle, yet he loses all that when he’s around her. I like the pondering, but there is too much. I skimmed to get to the next line in More...

As always, Lisa Marie Rice delivers a smokin' hot romance with suspense added, a perfect read for this Veterans'Day weekend as the soldiers of the Ghost Ops are disgraced and on the run, but still honorable men pledged to defend their new ragtag community.
The book is slightly diffferent from her usual books as it's a little futuristic, all E-cars and IPad 8s, but her men are still powerful, damaged and, lucious as all get-out; and her heroine is smart, always looking in from the outside of any More...

I was enthralled by “Heart of Danger” from page 1. Lisa Marie Rice grabs you with the first page and doesn’t stop – not even at the end of the book and I am really looking forward to where she is bringing this story.
The first novel of the Ghost Ops brings together Mac and Catherine. Two people who are the most unlikely to ever get together. She’s a beautiful scientist. He’s a tough and rough soldier. She has a special gift. He doesn’t trust More...

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa... has thrown in the kitchen sink on this one. While I like her nearly deft introduction of a near future, the addition of the paranormal atop the futuristic setting is too much. The convenient explanation fixes a lot of plot problems, so not is the guy wealthy beyond belief with resources available beyond those of any discharged vet, but the heroine must be psychic. All plot problems are neatly solved by abnormal explanation making this a mediocre novel. Definitely not up to th More...

The brand new Ghost Ops series has many incredible elements. I loved the fact that it was set in the not too distant future. My guess would be 10-15 years in the future. There is a tiny paranormal element to some of the people in this future. The human race has evolved just a tiny bit. The technology that the characters are surrounded by was cool and definitely stuff I would want to see in the future.

Heart of Danger started with a bang and was pretty good for the first half but then the second half tanked for me.
Dr. Catherine Young is a brilliant researcher who is married to her work until her secret psychic gift sends her on a search for Tom "Mac" McEnroe to help her save a man in trouble. Mac finds her and brings her to his secret compound of refugees in the middle of a mountain. He tries to figure out if she is sent by his enemies or if she is what she seems. Several other reviewers have stated that this book isn't as book as LMR's Dangerous Passion or previous works. Having never her work before, I can't respond. I really liked this book though. It had an excellent balance of action, suspense, and romance, IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, and the peeks into secondary characters' personalities and lives was enough to have me wanting to read more in this series. The love scenes were good, not great, IMO; they were neither overly graphic nor o More...

3 cheers for Lisa Marie Rice! Another wonderful novel. But this one has a paranormal twist to it that is not so heavy that if you're not a paranormal fan, it will not be overbearing. Tom McEnroe "Mac" is an outlaw warrior hiding in a cave in Blue Mount that he has turned into a high-tech Utopia. Betrayed by his Captain during a mission, he and his fellow comrades Jon and Nick have built this world known as "Haven". They have taken in outcasts on the run including a former movie star, Stella, who More...

I think it’s fair to say that I didn’t get the novel I expected after I read the blurb but I did really enjoy it, all the same. I had kind of expected a fairly standard military style romantic suspense but what we got was a slightly paranormal, slightly futuristic, fairly steamy romance. It’s based around a community of ex-military outlaws living a very high-tech existence outside of the law and regular society after an Op went bad a few years ago and they were all branded criminals.

I like LMR's books and I will read all of her work but sadly this was not her best work. The story was good and LMR could have done so much more with the storyline.
There was just too much pondering and no background information and the introduction of the paranormal was just thrown in with no explainations.
This was a boring read and I skipped a lot to get to the good part- the romance which only happens in Chapter 11 !!!!, the sex was great in the usual LMR style but took waaay to long for me. More...

A 4 ½ star read I thoroughly enjoyed! An awesome story line filled with interesting, larger than life characters make this a must read. I loved the inclusion of the paranormal twist intertwined with deadly bad to the bone militants. Catherine is a well written character. She knows what she wants and goes after it, even if she has to mentally boost her courage to do so. Mac is a strong hero with an extensive military/strategic planning background. Together, their chemistry is incomparable. The ot More...

Lisa Marie Rice’s latest, Heart of Danger, is the first in her new series Ghost Ops. The premise of the series is fairly outrageous. The books are set ten years after the death of Osama Bin Laden and the heroes are members of the “famed SEAL Team Six” that killed him. (Bin Laden was indeed taken out by a real Team Six.) In Ms. Rice’s series, a subset of Team Six became a group of an elite secret military unit called “Ghost More...

If Ms. Rice would cut out the too much and repetitive description of inner monologues from the main characters, it would not affect the impact of the book. She can keep doing what she's doing during the bedroom scenes because they are hot. The bad guy is a very predictable bad for bad's sake and he did not even matter because if you remove all his scenes, it would not affect the story because he never even came face to face with the good guys even during the big fight in the end.

This is classic LMR, so if you've read her before, you know what you will get: dangerous alpha male with perpetual erection who meets, falls for, determines he has got to have, beautiful heroine who somehow can't see how perfect she is, etc etc.
The twist to this RomSusp is the addition of some woo-woo mental telepathy stuff and the story is set in the future. A cast of "Ghost Ops" characters are also introduced--likely we will see them in the future, too. The bad guy is so evil--heart of darkne More...

All I have to say is, Hell to the YES.
LMR has always been my favorite author - but with this new novel, I'm completely sold. I absolutely LOVE this kind of story, where there's contemporary romance with some kind of interesting 'psychic' or whatever tinge to the story.
Doesn't make it paranormal (which I don't really have much interest in, to be honest) but taps into something that I've long thought to be fascinating.
