Battlefield (Battlefield #1)
by
J.F. Jenkins (Goodreads Author)
Cadence, JD, and Orlando couldn't be more different from one another. Under normal circumstances, the three wouldn't so much as say hi to each other if they could get away with it. Then an alien crashes through the roof of their local mall, and everything changes. Not only do the three teens gain new abilities, but they're also chosen to help fight in an intergalactic war...more

Hanging out at an old mall one day, three teens are surprised when something comes hurtling down from the sky. Even stranger, they are greeted by a glowing, fiery entity, and given some surprising news. The friendly being promptly regulates his appearance, and introduces himself as Alan, before advising the fascinated trio of a galactic battle. He explains that Earth has become the staging area for the next phase in the ongoing struggle. Cadence, JD and Orlando are told they h...more

Okay people. The synopsis sounded cool and had potential. Alien? Intergalactic battle? Mystery? And it didn't mention romance
I have to say I really enjoyed the sci-fi aspect of the book and give it a thumbs up to the uniqueness of the book. While reading the synopsis I thought the plot was pretty basic, you know super powers, aliens, recruiting, and fighting. I can definitely see this book targeting younger teens. Even though the synopsis didn't mention romance, there was romance in it.

I am a new fan to science fiction books. Or books involving aliens. I had read one before that I really enjoyed, but I just figured it was a one time thing. But after reading Battlefiled, I am a convert. I will gladly trade in my fangs for stars and space! JF Jenkins definately wrote a winner.
I greatly enjoyed the characters in this book. All of them, including Alan. Well, of course Alan was one of my favorite characters, but that was just because he was the alien. I like the idea of aliens look...more

This was a really nice story! I liked the characters and after a couple chapters, they are immediately likable (Cadence/JD/Orlando). They are so different but those differences really liven up the story. They are chosen teens that possess some sort of superpower when they meet Alan, an Alien, whom rather crashed into them at a mall, and basically says that some tribes chose Earth for a battlefield for their war, and these teens must help before any other destruction is done. Pretty intense right...more
Battlefield is the first book in a new series about three teenagers whom after being approached by an alien discover that they have powers. The teens are told that they have been chosen to fight in an intergalactic battle that is going to be taking place on Earth. These teenagers who would never have run in the same circles pre-alien meeting, must put aside their differences to work together and save the teenagers from their school that end up missing or dead.

I really love the cover for this book. I was drawn to this book by the cover first, and then I read the synopsis and thought… Hmm sounds like my kind of book. Aliens, war, superpowers, and mystery… what a combination! I was not disappointed. I enjoyed this book very much.
The story revolves around 3 teens and one mysterious alien. The three teens go the same school, 2 are friends, and the other a loner. In the wrong place at the right time or right place wrong time, they see an alien land in the...more

Battlefield is a highly imaginative story which follows the story of three teenagers who are gifted magical abilities and the alien who has been assigned to guide them towards their mission which is of great significance to the alien race. This story would easily appeal to tweens. I mean, who wouldn’t want super powers? Orlando was my favorite of the three teenagers that make up the main group of this story. He is brooding, intelligent, and misunderstood and his relationship with his sister remi...more
Battlefield is an exciting tale I found hard to put down. Centering around high schoolers who are drawn into an intergalactic war, they discover gifts they never knew they had. Woven throughout the book is a story about one of the aliens and his one true love, who happens to be on the opposite side of the war from him. When kids go missing from a small town, the three kids start an endeavor to find out who's behind it. If you like fast-paced, imaginative writing, you'll love Battlefield!

This is a pretty enjoyable story – it wasn’t what I was expecting, but I still liked it. The main point of this book was to establish the characters and build relationships. There really isn’t much action at all, but I’m sure there will be plenty in the rest of the series. The characters are easily likable and I’m looking forward to the next book, Control (which is out now).

I read this book and its sequel back to back and I'm glad I did, because it took me a while to understand the writer's vision. (Note that this is a YA series and I kind of left that territory behind some years ago. The fault most likely lies not with the station, you know.) Once I grabbed ahold of the super-hero theme, though, we were good to go. Of course a super hero needs an alternate identity and a funky super-hero name and even a costume (says the retired Trekker), and while humans might de...more
