Fall From Grace

“Do you know what happened to you?” Joey’s voice broke a little. Fresco shook his head. The kid nodded, like it was no big surprise. “Yeah, me either. No one seems to. We just have normal lives, you know? Then suddenly you wake up with this thing eating into you,” he swallowed hard, “and that’s it. The rest is Wasteland.”

Seventeen-year-old Fresco Conte is an

I was hooked from the very beginning.

It was intriguing and well paced, I could feel the build up brewing, tensions forged, intrigue laced carefully through the story.
I really felt for all the kids as they struggled through terrible pain and addiction without knowing why and their struggle to fight it knowing it was futile.
I really routed for all the characters in this story.
And then it ended on a horrific cliff hanger, but I was left feeling a bit blank.
I have to admit, that although I really re

By the end of chapter one, I was hooked into Fresco. It was a very easy read and I hurried through the pages and I wanted poor Fresco to make it out of the dire circumstances he'd been thrust into.

Fresco was a very likeable character. You could feel his pain and inner torment. I felt myself empathising with him very early on and I wanted him to win. Once he arrived at Last Stand, the story took off even more for me. I really loved the characters within the house. I almost felt like one of them a

Fresco grabbed me at the throat from when I first started reading it. It is a YA dystopian that is so much more than just a dystopian. Patti Larsen has veered away from the cookie cutter dystopian genre and given the reader a story that is raw, visceral and haunting. Fresco is a teen jock like any other but his family is fractured even though the fractures are covered with a spiral of lies and illusions. These fractures are torn asunder when the dark secret of his older brother's disappearance ...more

Recommends it for: Any who's every read Patti Larsen or enjoys a good urban fantasy, YA.

Fresco, A sweet sub-urban kid living the typical teen's life unaware his long absent brother's shameful secret is about to become his own. His world is turned upside down by the betrayal of make-believe families and corporation cover-ups, and thrown into chaos and despair of abandonment and addiction.

My poor rose tinted romance glasses got a very big shock from the first in Patti Larsen's Diamond City Trilogy. It's a real look into a very dark world. Yet again, I was compelled to continue readi

Recommends it for: Young Adult Readers
Patti Larsen's ability to captivate and compel her readers never ceases to astonish me, one of her loyal fans. Her main character, Fresco, in this the first of her Diamond City trilogy, is another multi-faceted character who shows both strength and vulnerability, a guy you want to cheer on and smack the crap out of at the same time. Truly a character everyone one of us can relate to.

As always, Patti's stories are well-written and well-crafted. Though you know from page one this story is not goin

Fresco is intense. It's dark and interesting, its deep and real too. Patti Larsen takes her readers on a journey into drug addiction, a no-holds barred urban fantasy/dystopian YA novel. It's violent and visceral, and you won't want to stop reading.
More importantly there are moments in the book, when the reality of drug addiction and its effects on family, community and society are so tangible one has to stop and breathe before continuing to devour the book. A masterfully rendered novel and an ev

Very fast and easy read, an interesting take on drug addiction from a fantastic point of view and a dash of super powers. I read it in two days. There are things that could be edited to clarify a bit more but overall the story is nicely done and leaves you wanting to know more about what happens to Fresco and the other kids.

I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to ...more
