Country Mouse (Country Mouse #1)
by
Amy Lane (Goodreads Author),
Aleksandr Voinov (Goodreads Author)
Owen may be a bit of a country mouse, but he's loving his vacation in London. After a long day playing tourist, he's on the hunt for some cheap beer and a good burger. Instead he finds a man hunting him, an arrogant prick with only one thing on the brain: the kind of meat that doesn't come on a bun.

London is my favourite city. Doing tourist shit in London was a great experience which I'd like to repeat. Probably not as great as Owen's, but we can't all be that lucky.
I loved everything about this story - the setting, the characters, the kinks(!), the sweetness, and the ending.
It's sodding perfect.

A lovely, romantic, romance.
This was my first Amy Lane book, even though I've been intending to read her for some time. I'm so pleasantly pleased that I picked this to be my first Amy Lane. I have a big, dumb grin on my face that won't be fading soon.
I chose to read this because of my respect for Aleksandr Voinov's writing. I don't know if I had expectations for this story but I have to say that I was surprised to find something so sweet and sexy. Having just come off reading his Dark Soul...more

Appealing short story about 'country mouse' American, Owen who is on holidays in London when he's picked up in a bar by stock trader Dom, Malcolm. I liked that Owen is a lot more than Malcolm anticipated and the dynamic between them is sexy. The story is a little unbelievable but easy enough to go along for the ride. The cover is great.
Wow, this is such an all-round wonderful, funny, and amazing story, I don’t even know where to start. I admit that I was a little skeptical at first – like many others I wasn’t sure about what to expect from this pair of authors working together. The result, I am happy to report, is as delightful as it is emotionally rewarding.

The writing is disjointed. The plot evinces the work of two polar opposite authors. The kink is completely unintegrated. The sweetness is saccharine, particularly at the end. And the switch offs between British and American are erroneous several times.
The three stars are for my enjoyment of the storyline, the idea itself. I like the notion of meeting that person who exposes your truth and who you cannot let go of even if that revelation and concession comes after a single weekend. Again, I alway...more

FUN FUN FUN!!!! That's the main thing for me with this story. I had fun reading it, fun hunting for where the uniqueness each author came shining through...JUST FUN!!
I must admit that I was a bit nervous with this one. Amy Lane and Aleksandr Voinov are two of my most favorite authors in this genre, I've pretty much read everything they've written, and have not been disappointed yet, their styles are SO DIFFERNT though! I'm not sure that I fully understood Country Mouse. While the idea behind the romance is interesting, the way it played out was subpar. The story itself was too focused on sex and the budding relationship seemed too quixotic.
As previously stated, Amy Lane's writing and I just don't seem to get along. Maybe it's because many of her story lines are too unrealistic for contemporary fiction. Maybe it's because I have weird taste in books. Who knows. My point i...more

I don't usually add a book to goodreads while I'm still reading it, but I had to write something down before I forgot it and this was the only place I thought I'd actually find it again. *stupid meds*
Anyways, my new word for the Amy & Aleks writing team...
'hard angst'
<3
And don't tell me if someone else has come up with that beforehand because I couldn't give a toss.
Also, I think I actually guffawed at one point.
Who knew that could happen in real life.

Looking for the perfect blend of sweet and spicy? Then do I ever have a recommendation for you.
It was just supposed to be another hookup for wealthy workaholic Malcolm. He needed to blow off steam after a stressful week and what better way to do it than having some no-strings sex with a willing submissive? When his date doesn’t show up at the bar on time he refuses to wait and instead sets his sights on a cute vacationing American who has been eyeing him.

Every thing I was expecting and then some in just 70+ pages. Funny. Sweet. Hot. Sexy. Awesome. It even had that emotional edge I love. Great work by great authors.

I absolutely LOVED this story. LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! Malcolm and Owen were fantastic together. The sex was a 10 on the scoville scale. The ending made me cry. Overall this story gave me an overwhelming sense of happiness and a boat load of warm fuzzies. Just what I needed on my birthday!!
And the book cover is just lovely. Who ever picked out the models to use got Owen and Malcolm perfectly.
update: I'm keeping this book on my Kindle Fire's carousel because I LOVE the cover so much!

I am a huge fan of Amy Lane so get pretty excited about her new books. Going into to this one I wasn't sure what to expect. I have a good number of Aleksandr Voinov's books on my tbr pile. The few things I have read I enjoyed, but Amy and Aleksandr have vastly different writing styles. I shouldn't have been worried. This story was perfect. I adored Owen and Malcolm. Owen, the adorable American with one heck of a backbone and Malcolm, the big bad Dom who had a soft and squishy center. They were p...more

I'm not entirely sure what happened with this one. While still an enjoyable read, the book ended in a completely different direction than it started in, with what I felt was not enough transition in-between. There were a couple of reasons I decided to pick up and review this book:
1.Amy Lane- When I first dipped my toe into the m/m pool Amy Lane was one of the first authors who gave me a gay LOVE STORY. Not a sex story with a happy ever after tacked on the end, but an actual love story. I’m a huge fan of romance, and this extends to all the many different genres I read. Owen is on vacation in London with his ex-girlfriend Jenny. When she hooks up with an old friend for the evening, Owen takes himself out to a pub for a beer. He ends up in a bar somewhere in the West End, its patrons varying from teenage girls giggling over cokes to blue collar workers. While he’s sitting there observing the crowd and trying to decide if he should drink the beer that was served to him in a dirty mug, he can’t help but notice a man dressed in a smart suit, leaning against the bar...more

”Oh man! This you gotta see”
Exactly :)

This was a delicious read indeed. I enjoyed every bite of it.
I knew that forbearance played an elemental role in Amy’s characters. AND. Aleks characters often came off as hypocritically effusive and aloof. I was curious how they would come together. And they came together, plain and simple, beautifully.

More like Roaring Grizzly!!! HOT, HOT, HOT!! I adored Owen and Malcolm! They couldn’t have been more different, yet they were so perfect for each other. Talk about role reversal, it was amazing to see how it all played out.

At first,I thought that this book was one of those books that has an intriguing cover but contains a story that'll bore you through and through. As if no matter how hard you try to convince yourself that it'll somehow manage to get better in the end, sadly,it never did.
Then, after I've finished reading this book,I'm happy to say it was a sweet and wonderful read.I especially like how the story ended. And I for one love a happy ending.Just when you think there was no hope of anything more would happe...more

Gitte: Sigh…where do I start Jenny?! I really did enjoy this story. It’s co-written by one of my favourite Authors so I was really looking forward to jumping in. I have to say though that despite it not being one of my favourites I really liked it. It was short, it was fun, it wasn’t too intense or emotional and it hit the spot!

Short, sweet, and to the point. That is how I would describe Amy Lane and Aleksandr Voinov's collaborative novella about an American tourist and a domineering British workaholic. I really enjoy Amy Lane's male/male stories, but Voinov is a new author to me. After reading this, I will definitely look up Voinov's stories especially after hearing so many good things about his Dark Soul series. While the page count is low, Country Mouse is a complete story with great characters and tender romance.

I wasn't particularly fond of Malcolm, who came off as something of a smug dick, with a touch of creepy semi-misogyny ("ex-bitch-harpy," really?) to round out his character. Owen wasn't quite as unpleasant, but he was a relative vacuum; I never really got a strong feel for who he was, despite spending eighty-ish pages with him. Neither of them seemed like fully-realized people, and their relationship suffered from that lack.

So some crazy shit happened! Amy Lane and Aleks Voinov wrote a book together. I know what you’re thinking
‘OMFG! Am I gonna die of angst? Will someone be dying, getting raped? Will I be crying; will I throw my e-reader?’
The answer is no folks, you will be freaking smiling and losing your pants all over the place. I can see your shocked faces, the WTF faces, of are we talking about the same Amy Lane and Mr Voinov. It’s them alright, and it comes through in the writing.
