London is my favourite city. Doing tourist shit in London was a great experience which I'd like to repeat. Probably not as great as Owen's, but we can't all be that lucky.

I loved everything about this story - the setting, the characters, the kinks(!), the sweetness, and the ending.
It's sodding perfect.

A lovely, romantic, romance.

This was my first Amy Lane book, even though I've been intending to read her for some time. I'm so pleasantly pleased that I picked this to be my first Amy Lane. I have a big, dumb grin on my face that won't be fading soon.

Appealing short story about 'country mouse' American, Owen who is on holidays in London when he's picked up in a bar by stock trader Dom, Malcolm. I liked that Owen is a lot more than Malcolm anticipated and the dynamic between them is sexy. The story is a little unbelievable but easy enough to go along for the ride. The cover is great.

Wow, this is such an all-round wonderful, funny, and amazing story, I don’t even know where to start. The writing is disjointed. The plot evinces the work of two polar opposite authors. The kink is completely unintegrated. The sweetness is saccharine, particularly at the end. And the switch offs between British and American are erroneous several times.

It's a testament to the caliber of writing prowess these two people have that as different as they write, they were able to come together and pull of something so nice and easy to read without either of their voices getting flushed out in the process, and without even a hint of imbalance. Like Owen and Malcomn they came together seamlessly...Ok enough with me being a hopeless fangirl! About the boys...

Owen is a California boy who is on holiday in Europe with his friend (and also ex-girlfriend) while in London she is otherwise occupied and Owen ends up sightseeing by himself. Things get interesting when he stops for a drink at a kind of dodgy looking pub. Owen is a pretty relaxed kind of guy, so when this really yuppy looking (and super hot) overly intense dude practically orders him to not drink his beer and have a shot of vodka instead he goes along with it. Hell he is on vacay after all...So one thing leads to another and Owen ends up heading with Mr. Dommy Top to his place for a hook-up (again he's on vacation and some sex would rock)...

Malcolm has a whole Dom routine going that Owen begins to think is nothing but an act. There's a gentle, nice guy in there and Owen knows he's the guy to bring it out. As the weekend progresses, Malcolm makes Owen play a bit more on the edge than he's used to, Malcolm lets go of his hang ups and facade and opens himself up to the fact that this Yank has just thrown down all his walls and has made Malcolm just want MORE, of everything he hasn't thought he wanted before.

These two authors blended this characters so FUCKING RIGHT. The playfulness of Amy's characters, the intensity (with a gentle/honarable core) of Alek's. The erotica was FUN and HOT and even HOTTER. The emotions that developed between where soooooo believable. Good timing can be a miraculous thing, and these boys were ready for each other at that moment, they knew it too.

London was a fabulous character as well, the city was vivid and vibrant just like the real thing. I loved the little details like the streets of London and how just walking a few yards can show you all kinds of different faces of that city.

The ending was FANTASTIC. It was the perfect holiday story, comical chance meeting, intense time together with all kinds of great moments and a sigh worthy ending that went perfectly JUST in the nick of time. I read this story twice over the weekend, and liked it even better the second time around.

Recommend 100% and can only pray this pairing will happen again some time VERY SOON!.

I'm not sure that I fully understood Country Mouse. While the idea behind the romance is interesting, the way it played out was subpar. The story itself was too focused on sex and the budding relationship seemed too quixotic.

Whoa! How’s that for a come on line?

Owen’s on vacation in London to see the sights with his ex-girlfriend. They’re just there as friends and she’s ditched him to get some action. This is how he ends up wandering into the vaguely sleazy pub all by his lonesome. He’s bi-sexual and looking for a good time but he has his misgivings about the gorgeous but too arrogant stranger.

Owen lets lust and his sense of adventure override commonsense and he leaves with bossy Malcolm. They spend the night having a kinky fun-filled time and boy is it well written. Malcolm attempts to play the role he is so very good at but soon realizes that Owen doesn’t play by the rules. Malcolm even loses control, something he never does, and he enjoys it far more than he’s willing to admit aloud. The next morning neither guy really wants to say goodbye just yet so they don’t. One night turns into a few days and as the guys start to get know each other out of bed cool, always in control Malcolm finds himself getting attached to his sweet, sexy new lover. But eventually Owen must return to his real life.

Owen is such a super nice guy written with a wicked sense of humor and sarcasm that I loved him from the beginning. He’s also not a pushover and was the perfect match for someone like Malcolm. Honestly though, Malcolm is a character I would typically dislike a whole helluva lot just because I have a thing against wealthy, yuppie asshats who are all “jaded and cold” just because they can be but he’s not really this guy at all. He has so many small moments that prove otherwise that I didn’t want to smack him for too long. Owen saw through him quickly so it wasn’t an issue anyway. Only with Owen could Malcolm relax and truly be himself and damn if that didn’t melt my own cold heart. Still, in the end, I never quite understood why Malcolm felt the need to act the big bad asshole to the world at large but I’m sure there is a story behind it somewhere and I would love to read it.

Country Mouse really surprised me. After reading Dark Soul by Aleksandr Voinov and Keeping Promises Rock and Chase In Shadow (holy hell just thinking about that book makes my heart weep) by Amy Lane I was all geared up for some crushing angst, or at the very least a little dangerous violence-laden sex, but instead I found a tender and often amusing story about two guys finding love with only a little bit of butt smacking and a whole lot of scorching sex. Not that I’m complaining! If you’re looking for a lovely read about two guys getting to know each other in and out of bed without any drama, fighting, jealousy or other angsty-ness I can easily recommend adding this one to your reading list. I loved it and that’s saying a lot seeing as it lacks the darkness I’m typically drawn to.

I loved the story as a whole but it was those sweet moments between Malcolm and Owen that really got to me. Owen, an American visiting London, was adorable with an unexpected sexy side to him. I liked how he stood up to Malcolm and thoroughly enjoyed how he gave himself to him too. He was honest in and out of bed and it was his persistence in getting to the real Malcolm that made this story a funny, sweet read.

Then there was Malcolm. Geez, that guy had so many layers to him that I was surprised he knew who he was in the morning. He would go all Alpha Dom on one page and all melted bottom in the next. It was a treat to see the way he became frustrated by Owen's laid back attitude and completely flustered when Owen was screwing him.

Malcolm and Owen's chemistry was palpable and explosive every time they got together, regardless of who was topping. I loved each and every one of those times, not only because it made for a formidable hot read, but because it was a these times that I would come to see different sides to these characters.

Of course, it helped that this collaboration was between two great authors that when together bring the funny, the angsty and the sexy to the page beautifully and seamlessly. I loved Owen and Malcolm's banter, their honest moments and their passionate moments too. Amy Lane and Aleksandr Voinov did an excellent job of bringing together the uptight British city slicker and the mellow Yank with a penchant for honesty in a believable way that made me cheer for them to find their happily ever after.

As I mentioned on my previous review Country Mouse has all the elements necessary to make it an awesome read for me - humor, sweet and hot moments, great dialogue, awesome characters and that emotional edge I love so much.

All in all, a great story by wonderful authors.(less)

I absolutely LOVED this story. LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! Malcolm and Owen were fantastic together. The sex was a 10 on the scoville scale. The ending made me cry. Overall this story gave me an overwhelming sense of happiness and a boat load of warm fuzzies. Just what I needed on my birthday!!

And the book cover is just lovely. Who ever picked out the models to use got Owen and Malcolm perfectly.

update: I'm keeping this book on my Kindle Fire's carousel because I LOVE the cover so much!

I am a huge fan of Amy Lane so get pretty excited about her new books. Going into to this one I wasn't sure what to expect. I have a good number of Aleksandr Voinov's books on my tbr pile. While still an enjoyable read, the book ended in a completely different direction than it started in, with what I felt was not enough transition in-between. Malcolm is waiting for a date to show when he notices the young man sitting at the bar. His date is late and possibly a no-show, so he strikes up a conversation with Owen. Malcolm comes on strong, making his dominant tendencies clear, testing Owen to see if he might be game. Owen pushes back a bit, but there is clearly an attraction and he agrees to go home with Malcolm. He’s on vacation, after all.

Country Mouse is an adorable story of two men out for the evening just looking for a hook-up who end up finding so much more. Owen is young, only 23 and he’s a really good guy. He’s the type that is able to stay friends with his X’s even when one X has hooked up with another X of his. He’s not really into the Dom/sub scene, but he immediately sees something in Malcolm under the intense Dom façade and slick suit that Malcolm is wearing. He’s very intrigued by Malcolm’s suggestive innuendo and he’s looking forward to exploring this.

Malcolm is a work-a-holic who doesn’t have time for relationships. He’s certainly not looking for anything more than his normal one night stand, but before he and Owen even get naked, he senses that there is something different about Owen and he’s nearly powerless to ignore it. Though he tries to keep up the Dom role, because it’s worked for him in the past, he quickly realizes that while Owen is willing to play the sub, it’s not really his nature.

Owen, too, learns a little about himself during his time with Malcolm. He doesn’t mind letting Malcolm run the show a bit, but he’s not one to sit back and give over total control. When he realizes that he’s getting under Malcolm’s skin a bit, he pushes back a little harder and begins to see a whole different side of Malcolm.

This whole story takes place over a weekend and is done exceptionally well in its very short 79 pages. I am not always a fan of the novella, especially in a case like this where the characters and the story are so enjoyable. In this case, though, I was not disappointed and found the story to be very well rounded and satisfying even while wishing it was longer. I loved both Owen and Malcolm’s personalities and the little tidbits of snark and witty banter between them kept the story light, often making me smile. The hint of BDSM here is very light and very much in the background really. A choice Malcolm has made in the past to keep his sexual encounters brief and controlled. Of course, Owen comes in and turns his whole world upside down. This was a quick, fun read and I enjoyed watching these two characters discover things about themselves while learning about each other. I’ve not read Aleksandr Voinov before, but I intend to check out his back list for sure.(less)

This was a delicious read indeed. I enjoyed every bite of it.

I knew that forbearance played an elemental role in Amy’s characters. AND. Aleks characters often came off as hypocritically effusive and aloof. I was curious how they would come together. And they came together, plain and simple, beautifully.

Malcolm is waiting in the bar for his “date”…or rather the man he’s arranged to have sex with…a hook-up, when he sees the “country bumpkin”. Appearances can be deceiving and Malcolm is about to find out what Owen is all about.

Their first encounter in the bar was a prelude of what was to come, that give and take …the dialogue was raw and gritty, as they “feel” each other out.

“Bullshit?” It wasn’t his word, and his inflection at the end of it proved it. Owen arched his eyebrows, and his eyes—plain, ordinary brown—were suddenly dark and arresting. Malcolm found himself swallowing. “Bollocks,” Owen said smugly.

“Tripe. Shite. Waste. What-the-fuck-ever. A dinner? Yeah, sure. I might even kiss you goodnight on the cock. But I’m nobody’s fuck toy, so get that straight right now.” Malcolm recovered himself—indignation did that to you. “He’s not my fuck toy—that sod was begging for what I had to dish out.” Owen rolled his eyes again. “I’m sure he was. But don’t expect me to beg for a damn thing, okay?”

Malcolm is smug; demanding and loses his control when he’s with Owen, he declares he’s the dominant, but nothing could be further from the truth. Owen is a self-proclaimed “country mouse”, gives a good as he gets, is not quite the pushover that Malcolm thinks, and he renders him speechless. Owen knocks down the walls down that surround Malcolm, gently, carefully and uncovers a man who is desperate for real relationship; someone to share his life with.

You would never guess that this book was done as a joint effort. It flowed seamlessly, and the writing was as if it was of one mind. For a short read it had quite a bit of substance and the characters were detailed enough, that it was easy to connect to them, especially Malcolm and his inner struggle to maintain control. At times Owen read so young, and then when necessary, his gentleness and maturity would shine through. The dialogue was plentiful, humorous and heart-felt. The sex was passionate, sweaty and very HOT!! The ending has me hoping that their story will continue someday…I wanted more. I enjoyed Country Mouse so much…I read it twice!

I’m fan of Amy Lane, however have never read anything by Aleksandr Voinov, but this collaboration was wonderful! Not only will I continue to read Ms. Lane’s books, but now I’m on the hunt to see what Mr. Voinov has to offer.

At first,I thought that this book was one of those books that has an intriguing cover but contains a story that'll bore you through and through.As if no matter how hard you try to convince yourself that it'll somehow manage to get better in the end,sadly,it never did.

Then,after I've finished reading this book,I'm happy to say it was a sweet and wonderful read.I especially like how the story ended.And I for one love a happy ending.Just when you think there was no hope of anything more would happe...more

Short, sweet, and to the point. That is how I would describe Amy Lane and Aleksandr Voinov's collaborative novella about an American tourist and a domineering British workaholic. I really enjoy Amy Lane's male/male stories, but Voinov is a new author to me. After reading this, I will definitely look up Voinov's stories especially after hearing so many good things about his Dark Soul series. While the page count is low, Country Mouse is a complete story with great characters and tender romance.

I wasn't particularly fond of Malcolm, who came off as something of a smug dick, with a touch of creepy semi-misogyny ("ex-bitch-harpy," really?) to round out his character. Owen wasn't quite as unpleasant, but he was a relative vacuum; I never really got a strong feel for who he was, despite spending eighty-ish pages with him. Neither of them seemed like fully-realized people, and their relationship suffered from that lack.

So some crazy shit happened! Amy Lane and Aleks Voinov wrote a book together. I know what you’re thinking ‘OMFG! Am I gonna die of angst? Will someone be dying, getting raped? Will I be crying; will I throw my e-reader?’ The answer is no folks, you will be freaking smiling and losing your pants all over the place. I can see your shocked faces, the WTF faces, of are we talking about the same Amy Lane and Mr Voinov. It’s them alright, and it comes through in the writing.

Owen is vacationing in Europe, and currently checking out the sites London has to offer. His tour guide, also his ex-girlfriend hooked up with an old flame and Owen has to entertain himself in a city he doesn’t know. He finds himself in a seedy bar, with questionable looking beverages and drinking glasses. Owen says what the heck, might as well just kick it, until the over confident man approaches him and offers him a drink. Owen is unsure if he’s feeling the sexy stranger, but what the hell he’s on vacation.

Malcolm has just been stood up by his sub, when he spots the ‘Yank’ and he’s just looking to get off. He thinks he can top the crap out of Owen cus he has that look, but clearly Malcolm called this one wrong. Owen is so much more than he anticipated, and is bringing out a side in him that he prefers to keep hidden.

The guys hook up, and let me just say hells never been hotter, or sugar any sweeter. Malcolm and Owen pull out surprises and you can see what character belonged to which author. It’s surprising that the author, who gave us Talker, presented us Owen. Or the man who wrote Silvio blessed us with Malcolm. Though not the same level of memorability, but fuck they are just so much fun. I am talking about going all Julie Andrews with “the hills are alive with the sound of music” birds chirping and just feeling so good you can’t help but smiling.

I have to say that Malcolm is my fave because he pretends to be all toppy and ‘I am an island’ but he just wants to be lurved. Plus, I love a man in glasses it's my very own Krytonite. Owen is so cute, and he might be country but he throws down like a big city boy. We can’t forget that London sets the tone for these guys to fall for each other. The description of all that awesome would have me salivating over my sexy tour guide. And they say Paris is the city of love, obviously they never toured the streets of London.

Overall, I really enjoyed Country Mouse! It made me smile, and lose my pants all in the same bloody paragraph. Owen and Malcolm truly are a delight and I would love to read about them again.

Real Talk: I am just loving this dynamic duo and I hope they have something for us in the future. If they decide to write the angst, and bring the sad and tortured. I am not worried, I have a defibrillator on hand and I’m not afraid to use it.
