A Fool's Gold Christmas (Fool's Gold #10)
by
Susan Mallery (Goodreads Author)
The unrelenting cheer in Fool's Gold, California, is bringing out the humbug in dancer Evie Stryker. She learned early on that Christmas miracles don't happen, at least not for her. And this year seems like no exception. An injury has forced her to return to the family fold, no matter that they're estranged. She won't add to the awkward scenario by being seduced by the bad...more

As soon as I started reading this I knew it would be another good book....It was a smooth and easy read, a classic Mallery, easily identifiable as one of hers.
We had met Evie and heard about her in previous stories and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like her but that soon changed. She never knew her father and always felt the odd one out and was often ignored even by her mother, which kind of shocked me considering May (her mom, who has featured in previous Fools Gold stories) comes ac...more

A FOOL’S GOLD CHRISTMAS has another mother-daughter estrangement storyline, but this time is May Stryker (mother of Clay in the previous book and his brothers from books 7 and 8) and Evie Stryker.
Evie is a half-sibling to the Stryker men, conceived during a one-night stand during the time May was reeling from the death of her husband. I admit that the way Evie was ignored by May (and many times by her brothers) while she was growing up broke my heart. She suffered true psychological and mental...more

Why I Read this Book: When I heard that A Fool’s Gold Christmas was Dante and Evie’s book, I was so excited. I may have even squealed. I had to read this book. Both characters were a great addition to the town and having them paired up was icing on the cake for me.
What I Liked: I like the we’re just having fun together but aren’t going to take this too seriously trope. I love seeing the hero and heroine fight the inevitable and then watching it all come together. Evie and Dante ea...more

Loved the book. Loved Evie and Dante. I have been waiting for their stories since I first met them in Summer Days, but never suspected at that point it would be their story. Evie was brought to Fool's Gold by her family after a devastating injury. She doesn't want to be there as she has always felt like an outsider in her own family. She was emotionally neglected by them, especially her mother, left home at seventeen and never looked back. Evie finds herself spending more time with her mother an...more
Ya know, I may have reached my Fool's Gold saturation level.
I enjoyed this in that I finished it. I really liked Evie and Dante, but then I really liked all the Fool's Gold H/h.
But it seemed like I have read this story with these people in this town too many times.
There was a mother-daughter estrangement (been there, done that in Fool's Gold); there was a lot of elephant talk (been there, done that in Fool's Gold); there was "I don't want to love you because I have loved and lost before" (been...more

There's a lot about forgiveness in this story. Somehow this seems to be a recurring theme in romance novels lately but this is one of the best books to deal with it.
Evie Stryker was born from a one night stand and she's always felt like she was on the outside looking in. I wish that there had been more exploration of this but Mallery doesn't let Evie forgive willingly. She spends a lot of time thinking about the fact that her family hurt her and that it's not fair. So many authors just have thei...more

A Fool’s Gold Christmas might be the best of the Fool’s Gold series so far! Evie Stryker has never felt like part of the family. The baby surprise after a one-night-stand, she’s never felt the love (from her mother or her half-siblings). Of course, now that the rest of the Strykers have found their happily-ever-after, they all want her to rejoin the family.
Can you tell I felt her bitterness? Because I did. I felt awful for Evie, and while I really enjoyed their books, there was nothing they cou...more

4 STARS Finally Evangeline Stryker story is here. I wanted to know more about her since we met her in Rafe's book. I wondered how this story would work out for her. It was done in a good way. Thier are a few love scenes that I skipped over. I love the town of Fool's Gold and how they come together to help each other. I need to be more active like they are in doing good. Evangeline was not close to her family they taught her that those close to you did not l...more

*This is one of Susan Mallery's greatest additions to the Fool's Gold series. If you are new to this series, Fool's Gold is a small town where everyone treats you like family. With each book we get to revisit characters we fell in love with from previous stories and catch up on what is new in their life. Don't let that stop you if your new to this series. Each book is an individual stand alone story that leaves you wanting more and you will enjoy reading past books to find other characters stori...more

The reason I wanted to read it was because the heroine was actually the one redeeming part of what I call the book with the goats of doom . I’m happy to say that this one wasn’t awful.

My Review:
What a perfect holiday romance! I loved this book. Not only did it feature two incredible characters in Dante and Evie, but it also featured so many of my favorite things about the small town of Fool's Gold in the midst of the magic of the holiday season!
These two characters have been favorites of mine for a while. Evie, just because her story is so heartbreaking. May is the perfect mother, except when it comes to her daughter Evie and everyone agrees that Evie totally received the sho...more

There is no place I would rather spend Christmas than Fool’s Gold. With the beautiful backdrop of the California mountains Christmas comes alive in the latest of the Fool’s Gold series from Susan Mallery. But when Evie is brought to the town by her family after breaking her leg she feels more like an outsider than part of the...more

This was received from NetGalley.
This one was an easy read, low angst high sweetness factor. I haven't read the other books in the Fool's Gold Series yet so this was my first taste of Susan Mallery.
Evie was a professional football cheerleader before a freak accident broke her leg and changed her life. As she was released from the hospital and in a drugged haze from all the pain medications, her family moved her to Fool’s Gold in an attempt to ‘help’ her. Even though it was the last place on Eart...more

Cover & Title - 4 out of 5
Favorite Line - "She would simply put one foot in front of the other. After all, she was used to dancing through the pain."
Favorite Character - Alexander, the cat.
Ok so i will be the first to admit that i am a total grinch. Normally because of this i am not a big fan of season books, this book however was by an author i like & the other reviews made it sound not too cheesy/corny so i decided to try it. Dante Jefferson has had enough of the clog dancers in the dance studio upstairs from his temporary offices and decides to confront the teacher. Imagine his surprise to find Evie Stryker, his partner's sister is that teacher.
Evie came to Fool's gold after breaking her leg. When dance teacher Miss Monica ("The woman has to be pushing seventy") runs away with her gentleman friend, not only does Evie (who had been helping out) inherit the dance classes but she is now in charge of staging "The Dance...more

I couldn't help myself when I saw this book on netgalley. A new Fool's Gold book? Restraint? The two just don't belong together. So "technically" I'm not supposed to be putting this review up, but eh.. I'm a rebel.
So this was not a full length book but a novella and it featured Evie Stryker (sister to Rafe, Shane and Clay - books 7,8 and 9 respectively) and Dante who is Rafe's business partner. When we met Evie we find out that her relationship with her mother May and her three brother's was no...more

A Fool’s Gold Christmas was a book I was really looking forward to. I only recently discovered Susan Mallery and fell in love with the Stryker family and Fool’s Gold when I read Summer Nights and All Summer Long. I loved both and in each Evie is mentioned and I was intrigued enough to think her story had the potential to blow me away.

For some people it might be a little early for Christmas stories but they are always fun to read. This is the first of several i will be reviewing this year. I've been reading the Fools Gold series by Susan Mallery since it started and this one is book 10. I've pretty much enjoyed each one. A Fool's Gold Christmas involves two characters who so far have been only secondary Characters. Dante Jefferson is Rafe Stryker's business partner. He's always been a bit a bah humbug kind of guy. Overall, I liked this book. The main characters were relatable, and really didn't do anything that set off my are-you-kidding meter like some of the ones in the last few books did. (Although who takes that long to decide they're going to adopt a cat from a shelter? No one in my house. The idea of adopting a new one has barely entered our heads when bam! we've got another cat.) Evie's prickliness made sense, and her journey to finding her place in the world and a better relationship with her mom...more
I quite simply adored this book! It is the final book of the Stryker’s I have to say I’m going to kind of miss them, although as true to Fool’s Gold tradition I am sure we will still see them in following Fool’s Gold installments. I started this series with the Strykers, but I certainly am not going to end this series with the Stryker’s. I am quite curious for the returned and returning home military men! This book was true to Susan Mallery form in that it was funny, fun and sweet. You leave the...more
I started reading the Blackberry Island series that Susan Mallery wrote and really enjoyed it. When I went to the library and saw this book - "A Fool's Gold Christmas" - I thought I'd give it a try. I am so glad that I did because I loved reading about Evie Stryker's struggle to fit in with her family in Fool's Gold, California. Apparently this is the 12th book in the series so I'm excited to start at the beginning with "Chasing Perfect".

I've been waiting for Evie's story. After the hints in the previous Stryker brother's books about her outcast status, I was interested to see what the author would do with her character. In some ways, this story played exactly like I had expected and in other ways didn't work like I had hoped. We had hints of whom Evie's partner would be in previous books, so Dante's appearance was no surprise. It was also no surprise that Evie's mother's mistreatment would play a factor in the story line. While...more
I liked Evie much better than I thought I was going to based on the foreshadowing in the previous Stryker books. I actually really liked Dante and Evie and their entire romance. I thought their individual doubts and Dante's knee-jerk reaction were very credible without being overdone and I could really picture a real life couple reacting in those ways. What I don't like is the "well-meaning" interference by essentially the entire town that has permeated this entire series. I don't really like th...more
What a great story. Prior to this book we don't know a lot about Evie. We meet her in Rafe's book, and see more of her in Clay's book. But we really get to know her heart and see how she interacts with others outside of her family. It is impossible not to feel bad for the way Evie has been treated by her family her whole life. But they do make an effort to improve things, especially her mom.
